Whiskey Verse Bromances by Layla Reyne

Craft Brew (Trouble Brewing #2) is my favorite book I’ve written to date, and while Cam and Nic’s romance, Cam’s family, and the mystery of his missing sister are a big part of that, so is the found family aspect that really shines this installment. Cam and Nic were already being pulled into the Jamie-Aidan-Mel-Danny family unit in the Agents Irish and Whiskey series, and those bonds only strengthen in Trouble Brewing. Within the Whiskey Verse family, I especially love the bromances on display in Craft Brew, between Aidan and Nic and Cam and Jamie.

Genre(s): M/M, Dark Romance, Fantasy, Horror
Release Date: March 21, 2018

~Synopsis~

My name is Theoden, this is the story of my life. Apparently, there has been a huge demand for me to tell it. Normally, I do what I want, unless the command comes from my Sire, Ara. But, revealing the tale about how I became the powerful vampire Prince of the City is something I think I will enjoy telling. You’ll see my first mission for the church, my first kill, the life-changing moment when I lost my virginity, and how I chose my first son, all of the things that mean something to me, that made me the vampire I am. So, sit back, and give me all of your attention, as I want your eyes on me. Now, let’s begin.
Prepare to be entertained to new heights as Theoden delivers you a unique tale of his life from childhood to the vampire Master you know him to be.

Warning: This is a prequel to the highly erotic, extremely dark and twisted New Haven Series and the spin-off, Odin Chronicles. I can’t stress enough how strong the sexual, violent, and adult content is in this book. It will steam up your glasses, and melt your contact lenses. The temperature in the room will rise to unbearable degrees. Pearls will be clutched and you may utter the words: “Oh my God” several times while reading. You have been warned. For mature readers only.

~Guest Post~Nicholas Bella~

Thank you for giving me this amazing opportunity to talk about myself and this book that I’ve written. When I first wrote the New Haven Series, I wasn’t so sure where I’d take this story. I only had the idea that I wanted to see the hero of the people, a rebel, get captured by his enemy and turned into the thing he hated most of all. That was Noel’s story, but as I wrote it, it evolved into something more. This whole world began to grow bigger, sexier, more dangerous, and opportunistic. Characters came out of the woodwork to breathe even more life into the series. It’s become a beast in and of itself, with no signs of slumbering.

It was around the second season in the series when fans started asking for Théoden’s story. How did he become the vampire master that he is? There were little hints of his past weaved throughout the series, but nothing that went into depth, leaving Théoden somewhat of a mystery. So, in 2016, I wrote a 11k short story detailing the moment of his embracing for an anthology. But, I knew that wasn’t enough, or good enough for my fans. I really had to pull the curtain back. So, when I got the rights back to the story, I decided to break down the significant moments in Théoden’s life that shaped the man and vampire he became. It’s truly an adventure, one that is sure to leave new and current readers breathless.

So, if you do decide to dive into Théoden, make sure you have an open mind and a desire to be highly entertained. I hope you enjoy.

~Synopsis~

Fire and ice. Oil and water. Vodka and decisions. That’s what Darren McCoy and Wren Davison are: two opposites that shouldn’t mix well. Dare believes in fairy tales, true love, and happily ever after. Wren believes in fast cars, freedom, and no-strings sex. What can these two men possibly have in common? A magnetic pull strong enough to obliterate logic and reason.
For more than a year, Dare and Wren have worked together at the Curl Up and Dye Salon. Dare has pursued the mysterious, brooding man, and Wren has resisted his provocative charm. Then one day, something happens that allows the men to see each other in a new light. Wren learns that Dare hides a heavy heart behind his brilliant smile. Dare realizes that beneath Wren’s gruff exterior beats the heart of a prince.
Passions ignite once the men stop fighting their attraction, but will it be enough to overcome their differences? Is Wren the prince that Dare is looking for? Can Dare teach Wren that true love does exist?
Nobody’s Prince charming is a modern-day fairy tale where some princes ride Harleys, and castle walls are built to scale. It is the third book in the Road to Blissville series but can be read as a standalone book. This book contains sexually explicit material and is intended for adults eighteen and over.

~Interview with Aimee Nicole Walker~

Thank you for talking with us and congratulations on the release of Nobody’s Prince Charming!

Thank you so much for having me here!

  • 1. What inspired you to write your new book, Nobody’s Prince Charming?

I first introduced Dare and Wren in Unscripted Love, which was the first book in the Road to Blissville series. These two fellas came into Curl Up and Dye to interview for jobs, and they intrigued me from the very start. Dare was snarky and funny where Wren was mysterious and brooding. I immediately knew that they would have books, but I didn’t know that they were meant for each other until they appeared in A Dye Hard Holiday. I knew next to nothing about their personalities or their backstories, but it was the absolute easiest story I’ve ever written.

  • 2. From Nobody’s Prince Charming, which character was the most challenging to write?

This book flowed from me easier than any I’ve written, so neither character felt particularly challenging. If forced to choose, I’d say that Wren was hardest to write because it’s more difficult for me to write brooding, mysterious characters. That’s the opposite of my natural personality, so I have to dig deeper to embed myself into those characters.

  • 3. What’s the hardest part of being an author?

For me, the hardest part of being an author is stepping away from writing and making time for myself. Self-care is critical, and I’m trying to be kinder to myself.

  • 4. If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?

Hold On for Dear Life!

  • 5. How do you celebrate, either once you’ve finished writing a book or when a book is officially released to the public?

I usually celebrate typing “The End!” by taking a relaxing bath that may or may not include a glass of wine or other spirits. As for release day, I sometimes get a pedicure with my daughter or buy something little like a new coffee mug. For Nobody’s Prince Charming, I bought a new cover for my kindle.

  • 6. What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

I have tv nights with my amazing friend and co-author, Nicholas Bella. We watch something on Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime and chat about it. I like to do creative things like making DIY bath bombs because a bath and a book is my favorite way to enjoy downtime.

  • 7. What can we expect next from you?  What are you working on now?

I just finished book four in the Road to Blissville series featuring Andy and Milo. I anticipate releasing that book early May. I will start book five this week for Memphis and Lyric. I’m also working on collaborations with Nicholas Bella and also Annabella Michaels, who has been a dear friend long before either of us published our first books.

  • 8. What’s your favorite way to connect with readers? Is there anything else you would like to say to your readers?

My favorite way to connect with readers is in my Facebook group. I will share the link below along with the rest of my social media accounts.

My message for my readers: Thank you! Those words may sound simple, but they’re never said nearly enough. Thank you for trusting me, believing in me, and reminding me why I love writing so very much!

Interview with Ruthie Luhnow

The Lawyer & The Lobsterman

Can you tell us a little bit about your characters?

Opposites attract: Isaac is a meticulous, highly strung lawyer, and Will is a carefree pro sports mascot.

Was writing this story easy for you to do? Or was it a little bit outside of your normal writing zone?

It was a very fun project for me. I liked having the constraints of the prompt and the suggestions from readers—sometimes having “rules” for what I write can force my brain to be a little more creative!

What were some of the reader submissions that stood out to you, and why?

I was surprised by how creative all of them were! There were so many great choices.

Since the anthology is only available for a limited time, (90 days) do you have any plans for your story after that?

I’ll have to see! Expanding it could be a lot of fun—I enjoyed these characters a lot.

What do you think of the line-up of authors? How does it feel to be in such great company?

I’m star struck!!

Other than your own, do you have a favorite story (or two) in the anthology?

I love all of them for different reasons. I loved seeing where so many different authors with very unique styles took the prompt.

Have you ever been set up on a blind date? If yes, how did it turn out?

No, but I’ve been on a fair few ill-fated first dates.

Have you ever set someone else up on a blind date? If yes, how did it turn out?

No, though I’ve played wingman many times for my friends—without much success, unfortunately.

If Heart2Heart were to match you with someone, who do you think you’d get paired with?

Hopefully, someone who was willing to listen to me talk about my job the entire time!

Thank you for joining us today!

~Characters Interview~

imageedit_517_7362529732~Logan & Tate~imageedit_520_8177084162

Q. for Logan – Now that you are set to marry Tate, so you think kids are possible in the future?

Logan ~ Laughs…hard ~ I don’t ever see myself with children and Tate feels the same. We’ve had this conversation many times over and have always come to the same conclusion. We’re very set in our ways. Plus, I’m extremely selfish when it comes to Tate. I don’t like the idea of having to fight for his time.

Q. for Tate – What would you consider to be the most outrageous thing you would do with Logan???

Tate – As opposed to being with him in the first place? Hmm…Logan has a bad habit of becoming handsy in the most inopportune moments. At first, that took some getting used to but now it’s almost become the norm. So I suppose the most accurate answer here would be: there’s nothing I wouldn’t do with him, outrageous or not, and that arrogant fucker knows it ~wink~

Q. for both of you – Who has the filthiest mind?

~ The two of them look at each other and laugh, and then turn back to the one asking the question and answer together ~ Both of us.

Q. for both – Soft/Sweet or Hard/Hot?

Logan – Really? I assume we’re talking about sex? Not food or candy or some shit, and if that’s the case, with Tate… I’ll take it any fucking way he wants to give it to me.

Tate – Is this a trick question? ~ Looks at Logan ~ They have met you right? ~Looks back at the one asking the question ~ Do you see him? Now imagine him naked and see if you think you could ever refuse him… Exactly. The answer is all of the above. And maybe a few in between.

Q. for both – Did you awesome guys ever have a time where you turned to each other and just saw flashbacks of how you guys became everything for each other?

~Both answer immediately ~ Always.

Logan – I love thinking back to when I hunted him down and made him give in to me. It just shows I was right from the beginning and he wanted me as badly as I wanted him. He was just a stubborn ass.

Tate – Laughs – And you were just a pain in the ass.

Logan – Pun intended, yes?

Tate ~rolls eyes~ See? How could I resist that? But seriously, I often think back to those first few weeks, months, and think about how Logan turned my entire world upside down. I truly believe that when you find the other half of you nothing (even their gender) will stop what’s meant to happen, from happening.

Logan – Mhmm…lucky me. I’m his other half. ~ Turns to Tate ~ Want to get out of here and become one?

Page Count: 341 pages
Genre(s): M/M,Contemporary Romance
Release Date: August 8, 2017
~Synopsis~

Xander Fairchild can’t stand people in general and frat boys in particular, so when he’s forced to spend his summer working on his senior project with Skylar Stone, a silver-tongued Delta Sig with a trust fund who wants to make Xander over into a shiny new image, Xander is determined to resist. He came to idyllic, Japanese culture-soaked Benten College to hide and make manga, not to be transformed into a corporate clone in the eleventh hour.

Skylar’s life has been laid out for him since before he was born, but all it takes is one look at Xander’s artwork, and the veneer around him begins to crack. Xander himself does plenty of damage too. There’s something about the antisocial artist’s refusal to yield that forces Skylar to acknowledge how much his own orchestrated future is killing him slowly…as is the truth about his gray-spectrum sexuality, which he hasn’t dared to speak aloud, even to himself.

Through a summer of art and friendship, Xander and Skylar learn more about each other, themselves, and their feelings for one another. But as their senior year begins, they must decide if they will part ways and return to the dull futures they had planned, or if they will take a risk and leap into a brightly colored future—together.

~Guest Post~Heidi Cullinan~

No Graphic Sex But Still Steamy, A Writer’s Guide

Antisocial is a new adult gay and asexual romance set in a fictional college in upstate New York between a one-percenter fraternity boy and a highly antisocial artist. One encounter with Xander Fairchild’s artwork is enough to turn Skylar Stone’s carefully orchestrated life upside down, unlacing his secrets and inviting him into a secret anime-soaked world with a new set of friends. I was lucky enough to have two editors on this novel, and both of them insisted it was my best work to date. And one of them, who especially loves my erotic, dirty work, made this remark, (which I’m paraphrasing because I can’t remember the exact language she used): “I’m not sure how this book, which has your lowest heat content ever, is your most erotic book to date, but that’s what’s happening here.”

She’s not the only one to make that comment. Popular remarks upon reading Antisocial are “oh my God, the hand-holding scene in the car.” Or, “The body-painting scene was so hot!” Or I get general garbled consonants and bubbled euphoria, readers loving the romanticism but also the deep sensuality. They might remark on one of the kisses (there are two), but they’re more likely to talk about the hands, or the paintbrushes. Or the general feeling. The senses that became evoked by experiencing a novel which, yes, is entirely without traditional erotic content.

✮ ✮ ✮Exclusive Interview with author Hailey Turner✮ ✮ ✮

We are huge fans of Hailey Turner and this series! sparkling-heart-symbol-for-facebook
We jumped at the chance to not only read and review In the Ruins but also to ask Hailey Turner a few questions.

imageedit_27_3195715136

DBO:  Hi, Hailey! Thank you very much for agreeing to this interview. facebook-comments-emoticon-with-heart-eyes
Hailey:  Thank you for having me!

DBO:  It is our first exclusive interview and it means a lot to us. Me(Ralu), Wendy and Simone, together, we came up with some questions for this interview and we are all very happy to have you here with us today.

Hailey:  I’m so excited you guys wanted to interview me! This is my first interview, too, so we can all be newbies together.

DBO:  So let’s get started! 😀

DBO: 1.  What inspired you to write a science fiction book…an M/M science fiction book for that matter, since this is not a very common genre?

Hailey:  I’ve always loved sci-fi and fantasy ever since I was a little girl. That’s the majority of what I read for years. So writing my first M/M book, it was a no brainer for me to make it sci-fi. I knew it would be tiny niche in the market, but I didn’t really care about that. I write what I love, so no regrets!

DBO: 2.  Your books are so accurate regarding the use of military slang. Do you have any military background or is it just painstaking research?

Hailey:  No, I’ve never served. People in my family and several friends have though. Aiming for the accuracy is a combination of having watched an untold number of action and sci-fi movies, having read a lot of books with military plots, doing as much research as possible, and texting a friend the most randomest questions about military life and procedures for clarification purposes. I may write sci-fi, but I try to make it as authentic-sounding as possible in certain areas of the story.

DBO: 3.  Can you give us any information about the upcoming book in the Metahuman Files series or any other projects that you’re working on?

Hailey:  Book 3 is Alexei’s book! I have no idea how he became the fan favorite, but everyone seems to like him. I should’ve listened to my best friend. She called it from his first appearance in Book 1. I think I owe her a drink now.

DBO: 4. What has been your hardest scene to write(so far)?

Hailey:  You’re gonna laugh, but the sex scenes are the hardest to write for me. Keeping track of everyone’s hands and positions is a headache sometimes! Plus, sex scenes can get repetitive, so I have to really plan out how I write those so they don’t become boring. Writing the action scenes comes easier to me than writing the sex scenes.

DBO: 5.  Which scene did you enjoy writing the most (so far)?

Hailey:  I’m gong to cheat a little here and go by book. My favorite scene to write in the first book was actually the dinner scene between Jamie and his father. Writing that really helped me to pin down Jamie’s character and what drives him, and that influenced the rest of the plot a lot. Since I don’t want to spoil anyone for the second book, I’ll just say the entirety of chapter six.

DBO: 6.  How many books are you planning to write in this series?

Hailey:  I have five tentatively planned out, so we’ll see what happens!

DBO: 7.  Do you read the reviews of your books… and if…how do you deal with any bad reviews?

Hailey:  I do! I tend to read them for the first couple of weeks, but then I move on because there is writing to get done. I don’t really have a problem with negative reviews. I firmly believe everyone is entitled to their opinions on a book. When I release a book into the public sphere, it no longer strictly belongs to me. Everyone is going to view it differently, and that’s okay. Do I wish everyone would like my books? Yes, of course! But that’s not realistic. When I read a bad review, I accept it as their opinion and move on.

DBO: 8.  How many hours on a day do you spend on writing?

Hailey:  I have a crazy busy day job, which sometimes requires a lot of overtime. I don’t track my writing by hours and instead, go by the word count. I try to hit at minimum 2,000 words a day if possible. Sometimes work gets in the way though. I play catch up on weekends if I don’t have to work.

DBO: 9. How long does is take for you to write one book?

Hailey:  It varies. The first book took about four months because I wrote it very slowly. It was my distraction from a pending death in the family, so I wrote it when I had the energy to. I honestly didn’t think the first book would do as well as it did, so I was unprepared and had to pound out the second book in two months to meet a reserved editing deadline. So right now I’d say about two to two and a half months to write the first draft of a book, which is usually pretty clean. I don’t generally have to do huge revisions when it gets to the beta and editing stages.

DBO: 10. For many readers, you are a new author and we know how hard is for new authors to get their books known out there. How hard it was for you when In The Wreckage was released?

Hailey:  Oh man. I had bare-bones promo for the first book and did some of it backwards. I looked for blogs to review it after it was released rather than before, but I managed to line up a couple of newsletters to promo it during the release and got some ARC people. That was about it. I feel awkward reaching out to people to promote stuff. This time around, I have newsletters lined up and reviews went out earlier, and a friend will help me spread the word in Facebook groups and reach out to more review blogs for me as well. It’s still a learning process for me, but there’s also only so much time I can devote to promo. Word of mouth has actually been a huge help for me in getting my books out there.

DBO: 11. Do you have any good advice for all the new starting authors out there?

Hailey:  Write! Write write write! Make it a habit that you love, make time to do it, or it will never get done.

DBO: 12. We have heard that you have cats 😀 …do they ever try to lie down on your laptop when you are writing?

Hailey:  I have two cats and a few pictures are up on my Facebook in case anyone is interested. They are ridiculous and I love them. Firefly is my chubby calico and Bones is my super-laid back part-Maine Coon. They don’t lie down on my laptop, they walk all over it to show their disdain for the machine that helps keeps them in kitty treats. Sometimes they’ll sit near it and proceed to knock off everything on my desk while looking me dead in the eye.

DBO: 13.What is your favorite food? 😛

Hailey:  Coffee! That’s a food, right? It’s totally a food.

DBO: 14. What music do you like to listen and do you have a playlist for your books?

Hailey:  Mostly rock music (almost any sub-genre), some pop, and original soundtracks to movies and TV shows. I do have a playlist for this series and it’s all over the place in terms of music.

DBO: 15. What do you like to do on a day when you just want to relax?

Hailey:  Not leave my house lol. I literally have to schedule a day off sometimes, so when I have one, I just want to sit around reading with a cup of coffee.

DBO: 16.  Can you tell us when we can expect Metahuman Files # 3 to be released? (Because we can not wait to read the book ) 😀

Hailey:  I’m working on it right now! I have about 35k words right now. Depending on my day job, I’m hoping to have it finished by early July and then hope to have it out sometime in August. I’m going to try to hold to that.

DBO: Thank you again for agreeing to this interview, Hailey. 😀 a5466-heart2bemoticon

Synopsis

I buried my twin sister six months after she found out she had cancer. Her funeral was three months ago. Today is our birthday and it started with delivery of letters from her.

It seems she didn’t trust me to move on after her death. She knows me too well. But how can I go on when my other half is just…gone? That’s not something I can recover from with a snap of my fingers. But I also can’t ignore her instructions even though I’d be perfectly content to cuddle up with my buddy, Johnnie Walker, and call it a year.

She has a list of things for me to do and there are rules attached.

There’s one major problem besides the fact it’s been three months since I left the house. I have to do all these things with her jerk of an ex, Hawk Simmons. He abandoned her shortly after she found out she was sick. If that wasn’t enough to make this a really bad idea, the fact that he makes an appearance in all my nighttime fantasies probably does.

I don’t think I can do this, but I owe it to my sister’s memory to try.

This is a stand-alone male/male contemporary romance novel.

Katya ended her call and promptly pushed the ‘away’ button for receiving phone calls. “I’m sorry. No more calls. They may not think so, but they can survive without me for an hour or so while we have our chat.”

Ethan’s stomach rolled over. That brought them to the question of the hour…chat about what? But he was almost afraid to ask at this point. Instead, he redirected. “Do you have your own firm, or do you work for someone else?”

She raised an eyebrow at him, but with a slight tilt of her head she must have seen something in his expression because she answered, “I own my own firm. When I graduated from law school, I went into a partnership that was later dissolved when I bought my partner out. It’s all mine now, which keeps me very busy.”

He grimaced. “And that’s further complicated by hermits like me who refuse to answer phone calls or mail deliveries. Sorry about that.”

“No.” She shook her head. “It’s time for you to stop apologizing. This is a hard time for you and that’s okay. To a certain extent, that’s the way it should be…”

She hesitated for a moment. “At least for a little while. You’re allowed to grieve. But Emma knew this would be an issue for you, so she made plans.”

“What kind of plans?”

Katya reached into her briefcase and pulled out a file. She reached inside and pulled out an envelope that she handed to him. On the front was his name, written in Emma’s handwriting. Suddenly it was hard to breathe.

“What is this?” he whispered.

“The first of your instructions. You need to open and read it.”

He didn’t want to. He didn’t know why, but he really didn’t want to. “I’d rather wait until I’m at home.” At his house, if he fell apart, he could do it without witnesses.

She shook her head kindly. “No, that won’t work. She was very specific in how she wanted this all to go. I need you to open it now.”

Ethan swallowed against the huge lump in his throat as he tried to find air to breathe. His heart pounded in his chest. Surely, everyone around them could hear that.

“It’s okay,” she said softly. “I promise.”

“That’s where you’re wrong.” He glanced up at her. “It’s never going to be okay again.” His voice cracked.

She lowered her lids, and her lips compressed into a tight line as if his grief was too much for her.

His hands shook as he turned the envelope over, lifting the sealed flap. It had to be his imagination, but he could have sworn that he smelled a faint whiff of the strawberry lotion Emma always liked to wear.

For just a moment, he shut his eyes and tried to calm down his emotions going haywire. He didn’t know whether to be angry that she’d done this to him, sad that she wasn’t here to tell him whatever information this letter held, or scared at whatever Emma had cooked up for him.

Throughout her life, she’d kept him hopping. As the exuberant, outgoing twin, she’d always dragged him into trouble when all he’d wanted to do was stay home. In that regard, this whole scheme of hers was very apropos.

He took a deep breath and pulled out the single sheet of paper and unfolded it. At the very first words on the paper, his eyes filled with tears.

Happy Birthday, baby brother.

He glanced up in disbelief at Katya. “It’s May fifteenth?”

At her silent nod, he gazed down at the paper in his hands, his eyes filling with tears. It was their twenty-fifth birthday. The first birthday he’d ever celebrated without her. She’d only been twenty-four when she’d died. How unfair was that? To her. To him. To the world that missed out on everything she had to offer it.
Emma’s handwriting wavered in front of his eyes, but he continued to read, not knowing what else to do. His other option—sobbing in the middle of the restaurant—would be mortifying.

I’m sorry I’m not there to go out partying with you. Remember when we were little and you didn’t want to share your birthday with me? Now you get your wish.

He’d been a horrible person. The tears overflowed his eyes. He’d made that wish more years than he even wanted to remember. How selfish was that? How could he have wished for a life without her in any way? She’d been his light.

Katya shoved a tissue into his hand.

Right. He was in public. Time to get it together.

My bad. It was probably too soon for a joke like that.

I love you, Ethan.

I know I didn’t say that enough—you know emotional displays and I didn’t mix—but beyond anything else that happens over the next few weeks, KNOW THAT. I love you, and if I could have figured out a way to stay, I would have…for you.

But God obviously had different plans for me, so now I’ll just have to content myself with being your guardian angel for the next seventy-five years. I’ll have your back, bro. I promise.

And in the interest of having your back, that’s why Katya is here.

I know you. You’re stubborn, and right now, I imagine that you’re more than a little sad. I get that, but that doesn’t mean you stop living. My death means you have to live twice as much because you have to do it enough for both of us. I’m counting on you.

But, again, I know you, so I’ve enlisted some help from my friends just to get you going.

Make a Wish, Ethan. Believe in it. It’s time to live.

~Emma

When Ethan finished reading, he took several deep breaths. The sobs had welled in his throat, and it was all he could just to hold them inside.

“You okay?” Katya asked.

“Yeah.” His voice sounded husky, but he’d managed to say the word, so he figured that for a win.

“Then it’s time for step two.”

He looked up just as she held a flaming lighter to the candle on top of a cupcake. She pushed it in front of him. “Make a wish and blow. All you have to do is believe.”

As he sat there, looking at the flickering candle, it occurred to him at just how sad this was. His twin was dead, and he was at some bizarre birthday celebration with someone he’d never even met before. Even from the grave, Emma was working to pull him out of his shell.

So he closed his eyes and blew as he made his wish.

I wish I wasn’t so alone.

But when he opened them, nothing had changed. He was still sitting in a restaurant with a woman he didn’t know, mourning the twin sister who’d died. Not that he expected a miracle, but Emma wanted him to believe.

Believe.

How was that even possible? She’d been the one who believed in the magic of things like wishes and fairy tales. What had that gotten her? She’d died before she’d even had the chance to live. What kind of magic could he possibly believe in with that kind of reality?

Interview with Christi Snow

Q: Do you have any advice for all the aspiring writers out there?

A: Write everyday. Creativity is a muscle that you have to keep in shape. The more you write, the more of a habit it becomes. I won’t say it ever gets easier because for me I haven’t found that to be the case. Writing absolutely is not an easy career. It takes a lot of work and dedication…daily.

Also when I’m feeling stumped creatively, it helps to do something else with my creative muscle (for me that’s papercrafting and stamping). It still keeps those creative muscles limber, but not overworked when I’m feeling drained. It also helps to sometimes clear my head of the clutter binding me up in my stories.

Q: If you could travel forward or backward in time, where would you go and why?

A: This is a tough one.

To go backward in time, there are so many pivotal moments in history that have significance, but that doesn’t mean I’d actually want to live during that time. I’m kind of addicted to my modern amenities.

Then I think about my life…are there any decisions or moments in my personal history I would have liked to have done better? Sure, but then I wouldn’t be at the place I am now as the person I am now, and I’m pretty happy with how things have turned out.

So, that leaves the future, but that’s a scary prospect. I don’t want to get into politics, but I feel like we’re on the verge of something truly terrifying for our world here in the US. If it’s going to go bad, I don’t want to rush to see it.

So, I’ll go with a bit of schmaltz for this one. My daughter was a surprise…born 12 years after our son. For my husband and I, we’re older parents…and my family especially isn’t known for living long lives. I worry that we won’t be there for the significant events in her life…her wedding, her babies, etc. So, I’d probably go forward in time just to see those things and make sure that I’d get to share them with her.

That may be a bit morbid, but I’m a writer…I have a very active imagination so all the possibilities flit through my brain at any given time.

Q: We’ve all got a little voyeurism in us right?  If you could be a fly on the wall during an intimate encounter between two characters, not your own, who would they be?

Ooh, this would have to be David, Hudson, and Leigh from my upcoming m/m/f, Intertwined Hearts. Hello, ménage with two sexy guys that love and cherish her. Seriously, all three of these characters are a bit wounded, but they love one another so much…they’re just gorgeous together (which is how they ended up with 128,000 words!?!)

Q: If I were snooping around your kitchen and looked in your refrigerator right now, what would I find?

A: Snort…oh, this is bad. I am NOT a cook. I’m good living on cheese, crackers, chocolate, and coffee. My husband is the main cook in this family, but he’s out of town this week. So, there’s basically all those c-items above…and some leftover delivery pizza that seriously needs to be thrown out because it’s probably green by now.

~Excerpt~

“I know you are still you. I also know that you still belong to me. You never stopped being mine, even when you were taken from me. Just know that you had my heart with you the entire time. It’s been yours since the night I rescued you from Corvin.” Roman reached out to me. “As soon as you looked into my eyes, that’s when you stole my heart.”

Roman pulled me into an embrace. I rested my hands on his chest and my head on his shoulder, letting his hands rub small circles on my back.

“I still feel some guilt over what happened to you, Alexander. I can’t help thinking that I didn’t protect you enough. This whole ordeal has made me even more protective of you than before. I can’t help it, Alexander. You’re the most important thing in my life—you are my life.”

Roman leaned down slightly and gently kissed my lips at first, then with more passion. Pushed back by the ferocity of the kiss, my back came to rest against the office wall. He was claiming me as his again as his mouth became more possessive. My hands sifted through his silky black hair as I pulled him to me, but I wanted more. Piece by piece, he skillfully took my clothes off with barely breaking our kiss.

~Guest Post~Grein Murray~

Q- What do you think makes your book stand out from the crowd?

A- I hope that the idea that love can conquer all if it’s true love would be what most take from my books.

Q- What’s the one thing that has really surprised you since you started writing?

A- How much is involved in being a self published author. It’s quite hard to get a book together let alone promote it and get it out to your audience.

Q- Is there message in your novel that you hope readers grasp?

A- That if you really love someone you will do whatever it takes to be together because a love like that is worth fighting for.

: When I’m not writing I like going to concerts. Music is a big part of my life, I’ve played bass guitar since I was a teen. I love nature and enjoy hiking and working with causes that help protect our planet and wild animals.

I have loved books all of my life and have always enjoyed escaping the ordinary world by getting lost in a good book. I read a lot of different genres of books but have fallen in love with MM. I support the gay community and hope one day people will see that love is love and that it is a beautiful thing no matter your gender, race or religion.

I am an avid animal lover and have quite a collection of pets in my home. I love ancient history and have studied Alexander the Great as well as Egypt and it’s pharaohs. I also am very interested in angels and have researched them and will put that to use in future books.

~Synopsis~

Successful underwear model Scott Ashworth is lucky—his attack at the hands of an unknown assailant will leave no visible scars. His professional goals are still within reach, and best of all, his stepbrother Rylan Mahoney is back in his life, their teenage infatuation, at last, getting the chance to deepen into something more.

Thrown together by the circumstances of Scott’s injury, Rylan’s long-dormant feelings for him are quickly rekindled, though he’s haunted by the memory of Scott’s disappearance on the night of his eighteenth birthday and the six missing years that followed. Rylan pushes Scott for the truth, a firm believer in the maxim that secrets lose their power once they’re shared—but resurrecting old demons almost always comes with a price.

Before Scott knows it, his life is spiraling out of control, his toxic insecurities welling up to threaten the fragile relationship he’s building with Rylan. Learning to let go of the past and believe in himself will be Scott’s greatest challenge, or else he risks losing Rylan forever this time.

Scott stared at the image. All three of his half-brothers were sitting at one of the bar’s high tables, Donna standing behind them with her arms around their shoulders. They were clustered close together, leaning on each other, beaming.

“Whoa, they’re so big. And they look really happy.”

“They are.”

“When was this taken?”

“Right before I moved out here. In fact, I stopped in Pace on the way just to see them.”

Scott tore his eyes away from the picture to stare at Rylan. “So you’re still in touch with them? With the boys?”

Rylan nodded. “I am, yeah. We’re friends on Facebook, and we text sometimes. They’re great kids.”

Scott was silent for a moment. “What about the baby? Cara? Is she—”

“Still with Heather? Yes.” Rylan’s voice was soft. “The picture you saw that first day in my apartment? That was the last time I saw them, when I went up to visit Cara before finals.”

“So you talk to—her? Heather, I mean.”

“Sometimes. Not often.” Rylan touched the scar on his cheek almost absently, and his eyes took on a haunted look. “When she and my dad split up, Scott, it was…ugly.”

Scott’s stomach roiled, and the puree he’d just drunk surged back into his throat. He grasped Rylan’s wrist, drawing his startled glance.

“Did Heather give you that scar?” he demanded. “That fucking bitch—”

Rylan gasped. “No!” he exclaimed. “She’s never, ever touched me.”

Scott released him, studying the scar before tracing it lightly with his thumb. It was high on Rylan’s cheekbone, small, but white and jagged.

“You can’t tell me that’s always been there, Ry. I would have noticed it before.” Would have noticed it back when he used to map every inch of Rylan’s face with his lips as they lay entangled together in his narrow bed. “Who did this?”

A pause. “My dad.”

The answer was so unexpected that Scott reared back in disbelief. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” he croaked. “Bob—hit you? Bob?” He couldn’t wrap his mind around it. Gentle Bob, who adored his son beyond reason, hit Rylan so hard he’d left a fucking scar? “What the hell happened?”

Rylan wrapped his arms around himself, hunching over. “While my dad was gone on one of his over-the-road jobs, Heather went out with her friends one night, got drunk, and brought home a man. But this time the dude didn’t fuck and run; he stayed for the weekend.”

“Holy shit. And your dad caught them.” Scott’s voice was hushed.

Rylan gave a jerky nod. “He walked in on them, in bed. I could hear them through the wall, and I’ll never forget the anguish in his voice as he demanded to know what exactly it was he was seeing. Heather was pleading with him, and the other guy was trying to tough it out. Lots of yelling, lots of crying—”

Rylan surged to his feet and started to pace. “The other dude finally left, and my dad and Heather kept fighting. I could hear them in the living room. I was gonna stay the fuck out of it until I heard Cara crying. So I went out there.”

Rylan’s chin trembled, but he pressed his lips together, breathing hard through his nose until he regained some control. “Heather was on the couch bawling, and Cara was wrapped around her leg. My dad was losing it, and when he saw me, he got up in my face. ‘Has this happened before, Rylan?’ I had no fucking clue what to say, and I guess my hesitation was his answer, because the next thing I knew, I was on the floor, my cheek on fire.”

He touched the scar, his eyes awash with the tears he was refusing to let fall. Scott ached to take him in his arms, but instead he jammed his hands in the loose pockets of his sweatpants, his fists clenched.

“My dad stood over me and screamed, ‘How many times? Why didn’t you tell me?’ He just kept saying that,” Rylan went on hollowly. “I had a cut on my cheek from a ring he was wearing. Blood was everywhere, dripping from my chin, getting in my mouth—” He licked his lips as if remembering the rusty taste on them. “—and all I could do was say, ‘I’m sorry, Dad.’”

“Jesus.” Scott’s curse was heartfelt.

“He was hurting, Scott, looking for someone to blame, and I was there. I was right there.”

“Why the fuck didn’t he blame the one who deserved to be blamed?” Scott snarled, taking his hands out of his pockets and slamming them down onto the couch cushions.

“He told me later that blaming her was too much like blaming himself, that he didn’t want to think about it being his fault. He wanted it to be someone else’s fault, even mine. After he hit me, he left and drove away. Heather helped me up, washed the blood off my face, and glued the gash shut with this liquid skin stuff she had. She wasn’t crying anymore, and she seemed really calm. It helped me calm down.”

His shoulders were so bunched and tense Scott couldn’t help but get up to put his hand on Rylan’s back, gratified when he seemed to take comfort in the soothing touch.

“What happened then?” he whispered, stroking the nape of Rylan’s neck with his thumb.

A quiver ran through Rylan’s body. “She put Cara to bed, and then we sat out on the porch together the rest of the night. Sometimes quiet, sometimes talking a little.” He heaved a sigh. “I think she really loved my dad, Scott, but for some reason couldn’t keep herself from sabotaging everything. She was devastated, but at the same time seemed almost relieved it was over, as weird as that sounds.”

When you don’t feel you deserve anything nice in your life, it scares you to death when you actually get it. It was a feeling Scott was all too familiar with, and he winced as an unwilling sympathy for Heather churned in his gut. He didn’t want to feel sorry for her, didn’t want to—understand her.

He shoved the thought away, concentrating instead on what Rylan was saying.

“We didn’t see my dad for about a week. Heather seemed okay on the outside, but I could tell she was slowly falling apart on the inside. I recognized the signs.” A shadow flitted over his face, and he clenched his hands into fists. “My own mom, you know? I couldn’t go through that again, and I felt so fucking helpless, so I went to Donna.”

Scott gave a quiet snort. “That woman is a force of nature.”

Rylan quirked his lips. “That she is. She drove over to the trailer, packed up the kids’ stuff, and took all four of them to her house. Told Heather they’d be safe until she got her shit together. She didn’t protest it, didn’t fight. When my dad came for me after a few more days, I left with him. Left her alone.”

“You’d done all you could, Ry. You know that, right?”

“I left without a backward glance,” Rylan said bluntly. “I was so fucking drained. By you, by her…”

Scott flinched, but Rylan went on, “My dad needed me. I walked away so I could save what was left of my strength for him.” His face was expressionless. “And for myself. I’d gotten a full scholarship to the University of Miami, but there was still a third of my senior year to go. I needed to concentrate on my grades and my own future. You were gone, the kids were safe with Donna, and there was nothing else I could do for Heather.”

The sun shimmered off the nearby buildings and bounced in through the windows, hurting Scott’s eyes and making him feel light-headed.

You should have been there, you stupid fuck.

As if reading his mind, Rylan murmured, “You being there wouldn’t have changed a thing, Scott. Heather would have still done what she did. You know that. It was only a matter of time.”

“But if I’d been there, maybe I could have deflected Bob’s anger onto me. Could have taken that blow for you, saved you that heartache at least.”

So much fucking heartache.

Rylan’s face softened. “It is what it is, Scott. Your mantra, remember?”

“Fuck mantras. I should have been there.” He slid his hand down to Rylan’s shoulder. “Were you and your dad okay, after what happened?”

“Yeah. He got us a tiny apartment not far from the school. It took a while, but we got everything sorted out. By the time he—died, we were more than okay.”

Scott relaxed a fraction. “Good,” he whispered hoarsely. “That’s good.”

Rylan patted Scott’s hand once before releasing him. “Ugh, I guess I’d better go take a shower, get ready for the club. There’s a big bachelorette party tonight, and Corey wants lots of pictures.”

“Yeah, okay.” Scott wiped a stray tear away with rough impatience. “If you need to go—”

“Can I take your car, or do you need it? I don’t mind taking the bus.”

Scott started to tell him to take the car, but the thought of the long, lonely night stretching before him made him say impulsively, “If you can wait a few minutes, I’ll drive you. Maybe stay for a drink.”

Rylan lifted an eyebrow. “Really? That’d be great. I know everyone would love to see you. People are always asking me how you’re doing.”

Scott didn’t know how true that was, given how silent his phone had been for the past three weeks, but he didn’t say anything, just headed for the shower. Afterward he pulled on a pair of jeans and an aqua-green silk T-shirt, standing in front of his full-length mirror and looking himself over, suddenly unsure.

“You’re beautiful as ever, Scott.” Rylan’s quiet voice came from the doorway.

“No. I don’t feel like myself at all.” Scott tugged at the loose material of his shirt, a shirt that used to mold itself to his ripped torso like it was painted on. “Maybe this isn’t such a good idea. People don’t need to see—”

Rylan came behind him and put his hand on Scott’s shoulder. “You’ll be the most gorgeous man in the room. Trust me.”

Their eyes met in the mirror, and Scott gave him a shaky smile. “I think you’re biased.”

Rylan chuckled. “I’m a photographer. I can’t be biased.” His voice was gently teasing. “Don’t believe me?”

Scott shrugged, and Rylan reached out and threaded their fingers together. “The camera doesn’t lie, Scott. Let me show you.” He turned to walk out of the room, tugging Scott after him and making a quick stop to snag his camera from the couch before leading him to the balcony.

The sun was low in the sky now, bathing everything around them in a soft, golden glow.

The camera whirred, and Rylan glanced at the screen, making a few quick adjustments before starting to shoot in earnest. Scott lost himself in Rylan’s quiet directions, first leaning back against the railing and then turning to prop his elbows on it while he gazed into the distance.

“Here, come see.” Rylan beckoned to him, and Scott walked over to gaze down at the digital screen in awe. The waning light kissed his face, throwing his cheekbones into sharp relief, the light scruff on his chin emphasizing his full lips. The soft green of his T-shirt reflected the fading radiance of the sun and made his eyes stand out like jewels.

“No filter, Scott. Just you. And you’re fucking gorgeous.”

Scott quirked his lips in a rueful smile. “You probably think I’m the vainest son of a bitch you’ve ever met, don’t you?”

“Never. There’s nothing wrong with needing some reassurance, especially after the trauma you’ve been through.” Rylan held up the camera. “I can tell you you’re beautiful, but sometimes you just have to see the words. See what I see.”

The lump in Scott’s throat threatened to choke him. “Sweet Ry,” he whispered. “Thank you.”

They smiled at each other, and Scott leaned in. Rylan lifted his face for the kiss, his lips parted, but Scott turned his head so his mouth grazed Rylan’s temple instead.

“Let’s go to the club.”

~Guest Post~Melanie Hansen~

Q. – As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

A. – It went back and forth between an astronomer and an archeologist, but unfortunately, science and math are not my strengths.  At all.  I loved what I ended up doing, court reporting.  It turned out to be an awesome career and led to what I’m doing now, transcribing for a hearing-impaired student.  She’s a freshman this year, and the most adorable, wonderful girl ever.

Q. – What was one of the most surprising things you learned while writing your books?

A. – That I could actually write a book!  No, seriously.  I’ve had the desire to write for years and spent a lot of time writing erotica for an online erotic stories site.  Obviously, those are “porn without plot” because I told myself over and over “You can’t plot.”  Write a book?  Nah, I can’t plot.  That held me back for a long time until I actually got the courage to try.  It took baby steps, through writing fanfic and using others’ characters and worlds, before I attempted it, but when I did, I surprised myself.

Q. – What is your definition of a happily ever after?

A. – Two people who are committed to doing their best.  That’s all anyone can do.  There are no guarantees in life, and I think that translates to romance, too.  Everyone has challenges to overcome, and I always try to write my characters as flawed, because every single human being on earth is flawed.  Nobody’s perfect, and nobody can expect perfection in anyone else.  But saying, “I’ll do my best for you, and being with you makes me want to be the best I can be,” well, that’s all anyone can ask for.
