-You can’t hide the cracks under the spotlight-

Dusk. Leader of The Underdogs. Destined for greatness. Lives in the now.
Abe. AKA Lolly. Iridescent. Unicorn.
All Dusk wants out of life is for his band to become world famous. He also wants to have a lot of fun along the way. And to get his rocks off. When he wants something, he goes for it, consequences be damned.
So when he sees a gorgeous pink-haired guy who is the human equivalent of tattooed cotton candy, he can’t help but have a taste. But it’s when Lolly ends up on their tour bus that Dusk knows their meeting was destiny.
Abe is the kind of guy who goes with the flow. He was hitchhiking anyway, so why not spend the week with a hot piece of rocker beefcake, getting smothered by his sexy long hair? And why not play the part of the supportive cutie while he’s at it? It’s not like he’d be sticking around for long anyway.
All plans hit a wall when photos of Abe and Dusk emerge online, suddenly pushing the band into the spotlight. To take advantage of the sudden popularity, the band offers Abe money for staying.
Which means money for being in a fake relationship with Dusk.
Which isn’t even fake.
Or is it?

Every time I read the blurb of a KA Merikan’s book it talks to me.

I feel attracted to their synopsis like a moth to the light, so I keep adding them to my shelves. But until now, until Manic Pixie Dream Boy I’d never tried this duo before. This time I’ve gone beyond the interesting blurb and to the whole experience and, let me tell you, what an incredible experience this one has been!
My first book by this authors and, for sure, not my last. I’m kinda obsessed now and I guess this is the beginning of a huge fangirling thing so, Helloo Merikans! You have a new fan in me.

Not a creepy one, promise, just a fan with a healthy obsession…or not…

So now, about the book:

This is the story of Dusk and Abe. Two guys who met in a stop on their way to LA.

They crossed paths (swords too, figuratively speaking) and start a new journey together. This is the story of The Underdogs, a rock band that makes my heart sing, and my panties melt. This is the story of their guitar and lead singer-Dusk- who wants to shine in a competitive and difficult world and a shiny man-Abe aka Lolly- who doesn’t belong anywhere and who is always waiting for an upcoming storm.

Manic Pixie Dream Boy starts directly into the action and with the action I mean taking care of the business, doing the dirty, a filthy encounter in a gas station restroom…That action.

1805. Laurent. Indentured servant. Desperate to escape a life that is falling apart.
2017. Beast. Kings of Hell Motorcycle Club vice president. His fists do the talking.

Beast has been disfigured in a fire, but he’s covered his skin with tattoos to make sure no one mistakes his scars for weakness. The accident not only hurt his body, but damaged his soul and self-esteem, so he’s wrapped himself in a tight cocoon of violence and mayhem where no one can reach him.
Until one night, when he finds a young man covered in blood in their clubhouse. Sweet, innocent, and as beautiful as an angel fallen from heaven, Laurent pulls on all of Beast’s heartstrings. Laurent is so lost in the world around him, and is such a tangled mystery, that Beast can’t help but let the man claw his way into the stone that is Beast’s heart.
In 1805, Laurent has no family, no means, and his eyesight is failing. To escape a life of poverty, he uses his beauty, but that only backfires and leads him to a catastrophe that changes his life forever. He takes one step into the abyss and is transported to the future, ready to fight for a life worth living.
What he doesn’t expect in his way is a brutal, gruff wall of tattooed muscle with a tender side that only Laurent is allowed to touch. And yet, if Laurent ever wants to earn his freedom, he might have to tear out the heart of the very man who took care of him when it mattered most.

Dark…Obscure…A twisted fantasy tale…I loved…

This is the story of two worlds colliding. Future and the past. 1805 and 2017 converging for just one reason: the constant human need to be more, to be better, to be what we are not. Two timelines joining together two different, but lovable guys. A sweet love story flooded by dark magic. And yes, you’ve read right, to me it was sweet. Very.
A novel that tells us about human evilness and ambition. A dark tale about our particular beauty and the beast.

This year is all about healing the heart, Scorpio. It’s time to leave negative attitudes and stoic facades at the door and let others see the real, more vulnerable you.
Percy Freedman is not grieving. Absolutely not, take that back at once. No, he’s entirely sure that selling his dead aunt’s home and leaving the neighbors he’s known for years is the sane thing to do. Who in their right mind would keep the house that smells like all the hugs he’ll never have again?
Nobody, that’s who.
Well, except his cul-de-sac neighbors. They all seem to think some paint and new furniture will clean the emotional slate. They all want him to stay.
Even his nemesis, Callaghan Glover.
Especially his nemesis, Callaghan Glover.

Lured into a game of Sherlock Gnomes, Percy finds himself hanging out with his neighbors more than might be considered healthy. Along with juggling new and surprising verbal grenades from Cal, and his burgeoning friendship with Gnomber9, Percy is starting to wonder if selling might have been the grief talking after all . . .
That’s right, Scorpio. With a little patience, heartbreak might be a thing of the past.

“Scorpio Hates Virgo” contains sarcasm, sexual content, a slightly sappy HEA, and an unhealthy obsession with dinosaurs…It can be read as a standalone.

It’s not a secret that I love Anyta Sunday. I am a huge fan.

She gives me that mood and makes me forget the world around.
Her stories make me smile and gives me a silly face all the way while reading them. With Scorpio hates Virgo the experience has been a little bit different though (at least during the first half of the book) so my “Anyta-I-love-you” face, this time has been more subtle more “I-love-you-but-something-is-a-bit-off-here” face. A “yes but no” face. Something like this:

But leave it to Anyta to overtake that little pothole on my way and finally give me what I wanted. Leave it to her to deliver the sexy and cute I craved. Because, after a first half not feeling it, she finally did it and even if not my favorite and, even if I was expecting more (my fault and just myself to blame), this book gave me something, and I finished it loving Percy and Cal and with the peaceful and beautiful feeling Anyta always gives me.

She makes me see the world full of rainbows and unicorns

“It was going to be him and Luke against the world forever “

Guess what? It wasn’t like that.

This story starts with a prologue that takes place in 1988, where our MCs,  Nelson Maitland, and Lucas Rollins…Friends and neighbors since they were five years old… witness their plans and dreams shattered when Luke has to move with his parents to another state. Because we all know that for a 13 years old kid, that is a galaxy far far away, and kinda the end of the world.

“At thirteen he thought his life was over, couldn´t understand why the world was still spinning when his had stopped”

After that “break up” (and the quotation marks are necessary since they were not a couple, just best Friends “experimenting”) our heroes are going to cross paths in life again but let me tell you, it’s not gonna be an easy journey.

Yes! The Metahuman Alpha Team is back! 😍And they are on fire! (Literally)

This is pure entertainment. A fast paced story, full of action, wonderful dialogues and a hot couple driving the plot.Probably “fast-paced” is not the expression to describe In the Shadows. We could say the frantic tempo (and the visual way Hailey Turner writes) gives the reader the impression of being watching a movie.

A sci-fi film performed by hot superheroes with a great sense of humor.📽

I guess the book could be summarized like that but you know me, I’m not the summarizing type, I like to ramble until you are bordering desperation or trying to kill yourselves. So, here I go…😁

I am Axios of Sparta, and I was born to kill. At age seven, I left home to train with other boys where we were taught obedience, solidarity, military strategy, and how to withstand pain. My harsh upbringing stripped me of my weaknesses and forced me to become strong. Ruthless.
But, I craved something greater—a life I could never have.
Against all odds, and the toughest training a warrior could endure, I found an unexpected love in the arms of a fellow Spartan. He was the very air I breathed and the water that sustained me. Fighting side by side with him, we were invincible. Where he went, I followed.
However, there was no place for love in Sparta. Feelings were for the weak. The only life for a Spartan was one of battle and brutality with no guarantee of tomorrow. In times of war, all men were put to the test, but the greatest challenge for us was not one of swords and spears, but of the heart.

Initially this was gonna be a 5 stars rating. I loved the beginning of this tale.

Then, at some point in the middle, I changed my mind and I was sure I was giving it 3 stars. But the last 20% of this tragic story made me change my mind again and rounded up to 4. Because the book is good, It’s just me who is weird and finds some things boring, or long, or whatever. I’m sure, any other reader is gonna savor every single page of this gorgeous friendship and love story.

A Skin Deep, Inc. Novel

Fighter pilot Jon Russell never sleeps with the same man twice. Known for his lack of shame when it comes to hooking up, Jon has no interest in commitment—even friends with benefits sounds like too much work.
Matt Huffman has slept with lots of women. He’s had loads of girlfriends. So why does the hot as hell pilot getting a tattoo as the result of a lost bet stop his breath? And how come he can’t stop thinking about him, even after he’s gone?

When Jon returns to Skin Deep the second time, he doesn’t want another tattoo. He wants to hook up with the gorgeous artist he spent hours agonizingly close to, and Matt wants to explore some curiosity about men. Fulfill the desire he can’t stop fantasizing over. And he wants to do it with Jon.
As their casual hook up becomes more than just skin deep, both Matt and Jon are faced with questions they don’t want to answer. Matt understands he’s bi—but are these feelings he has typical of hooking up with a man? Or is it only Jon that can make his heart pound? If Jon wanted nothing more than a fling, why does he find himself needing not just Matt’s body, but all of him? And can their relationship withstand the hardships that makes Jon avoid them in the first place?

The Skin Deep, Inc books can be read in any order—come enter a world where gorgeous tattoo artists and hot Navy men find passion, pleasure, and a happily ever after together.

imageedit_11_5093655094Vir****3.5 up to 4 Stars****

Even if this is book 2 in the Skin Deep Inc. series it could be read as standalone.

In fact, if I had read this book before book one, I probably would have enjoyed more Colin and Daniel’s story. Here we can testify, as the missed epilogue in Back Piece, that they are still happy and totally in love.

Here, in Pounding Skin, a tattoo artist (Matt Huffman) and a USA Navy pilot (Jon Russell) cross paces in Skin Deep Inc. and they are instantly attracted to each other. The problem? One of them is a manwhore allergic to serious relationships and the other, our tattooed hero, doesn’t know even if he is straight, bi or gay.

“To bi? Or not to bi?”

“Yep. Turns out that I am bi. Because effing hell, I want to taste that man”

Matt is hot. I know it’s not the deepest thing to say as a character’s introduction, but he is and I felt really attracted to him. He is a pure contradiction. He has a badass exterior going on (broad, sexy, tattooed and pierced) but he is kind, shy and insecure in the inside since he is “experimenting” new things and he doesn’t know what to expect or how a fuck buddies arrangement works with another man.

Our other MC, Jon, the pilot, the manwhore, the out and proud who doesn’t want a relationship has been a surprise too.
I was gonna start with “he is hot” but I think once in a review is enough. Straightforward and plain with what he wants, Jon is a great and interesting character. He seems to be very confident and clear: he wants to have fun, no strings. And it’s not a pose, he is really happy being like this.

” Jon would rather chew off one of his own limbs than do anything that resembled ‘settling down'”

Both MCs are deep, complex and attractive enough to support the story themselves even if it’s not necessary because I think this book (and its plot) is better than Back Piece.
I’m not saying book 1 was a bad read because it wasn’t, but to me, it lacked something, a missing piece I couldn’t put my finger on. But this one has found the lost feeling in its predecessor, and LA Witt has done a great job developing plot and characters.

The couple evolution is palpable and progressive. Everything grows naturally between our MCs and that was something that I truly enjoyed.

There are some great things in this book that I feel the need to highlight:

  • This is a story totally based on the relationship development. How they are, how they begin, how they evolve and how they get their HEA.
The plot in this book is a recurrent dynamic in romance. Boy meet boy, everything starts as a casual thing and then the attraction develops into something different, bigger and deeper. But even if the formula has been used till satiation, Witt makes it work perfectly here. I really liked the way the story is told. It is entertaining and sexy and undoubtedly very well written.
  • The sex scenes: my inner slut was totally satisfied. And it wasn’t that way in book one, where they were too many and not as hot as Matt and Jon’s scenes.
But it is true that in my opinion there is still a lot of sex. I would have been happier with less.
  • The background and the secondary character’s stories are remarkable. In this book, you get to know our boys, but also their friends. In fact, after reading about our next couple I’m totally in for book 3. It could be my favorite in this series.

So, would I recommend Pounding Skin? I think is a great read so even if you haven’t enjoyed Back Piece, you could enjoy Jon and Matt’s love story.

When Cooper’s parents divorce, he finds himself landed in Week About—one week with his mum and one week with his dad.
Only, it’s not just his dad he has to live with. There’s Lila, too: The other woman, the one who stole the rock-solid foundation of his life.
And then …
There’s Jace. Lila’s son. Lila’s smug, regurgitated-fish-scale-blue eyed son.
All Cooper wants is to have his family back the way it once was, but there’s something about this boy that promises things will never be the same again.

Resisting the realities of his new life, Cooper and Jace get off to a rocky start. But rocky start or not, after hundreds of shared memories together, they forge something new. A close … friendship.
Because friendship is all they can have. Although it’s not like they are real brothers…

But how does that friendship evolve under the pressures of life?
Under pressures of the heart?

imageedit_14_8350873105Vir*****5 Stars*****

This is a frustrating, forbidden, sad and beautiful love story.

This is the story of how I became a rock“… oh, yes it is…(sighing loudly).

To me, what I’ve read is so powerful that I’m still hangover while writing this review. I’ve laughed, cried, and prayed for the book to be endless. I also prayed for the exact opposite, begging for the couple to have their HEA and stop messing with my feelings…

This is a beautiful story that describes us the awakening of an epic love. This is a magnificent book that tells us about the start of a heartfelt and heartbreaking relationship between two men who met being kids and went through life with their paths tangled, entwined and intimately connected as “brothers”, friends and lovers.

I want this to be a total spoiler-free review, so I’m gonna ramble and gabble about my thoughts and my perception of this exquisite love story. So you are safe, nothing is gonna be revealed.

Cooper and Jace meet when both of them are teenagers.

They find each other in a tough moment in Cooper’s life and started bonding and sharing a life. It’s magnificent how you can be a part of it, feel all of it, being there with the weight of the unsaid words, witness the secret and longing glances, and understand the beginning of a camaraderie bigger than anything.

This book is not exactly one of unrequited love but, at the same time, it is, since we could say that´s the main reason (along with the prohibit love) for our MCs being apart for such a long time. It’s angsty for a softie like me who cries every time our hero’s heart is ripped off his chest, or even if it’s not but he is having a really bad day, he is jealous or simply sad. Yup. That soft. So, did I cry reading Rock? Yes, I did. Did I enjoy while crying? Hell, yes, like crazy. Would I reread again this magnificent and powerful story? Of course, I would, and I would cry too.

Anyta Sunday plays beautifully with the chapter’s titles.

All of them has a rock name in it, don’t let you forget, not for a second, that you are reading about Cooper’s experiences, feelings, and states of mind. We have our narrator’s sweet POV and the rock names to remind you the significance, the meaning of the stones, that they are related to what we are going to read. I also loved the way the book is structured. Different parts named according to the relationship development and also geologically connected to the plot… beautiful.

So you could say Anyta Sunday touches me. Her writing and her characters.

The dialogues flow so easily and the feelings go so deep in me, that I felt drowned in the beautiful drama, the magistral narration and the sadness of this unforgettable love story.

I wanted to make a special mention to Lila and David (Cooper’s dad) because theirs is a love story plagued of sad and painful moments. This secondary mini plot is also heart wrecking because this is a couple who has been in love all their lives, not being together for the most part of it…and once they are happiness seems to escape them anyway… I can’t imagine what it feels like to be incapable of sharing your life with the person you love (I’m a lucky girl) but it has to be hard, very very hard.

Anyta Sunday gave me 10 years of love and heartbreak, 10 years of Cooper and Jace’s lives full of great conversations, tears and a palpable evolution (we go from a YA lovely novel to a splendid drama with more experienced men).

And all of it packed in a magistral narration, sprinkled with a few references I loved…

Such as a Flight of the Conchords T-Shirt (it’s New Zealand, after all) or Cat Stevens’s “first cut is the deepest”, song, that drove to another place and another time.

Because as I said, I’m a softie, and proud of it! 😀

Never fall for your best friend…

Pushing thirty, with his reenlistment looming, decorated navy sniper Maddox Horvat is taking a long look at what he really wants in life. And what he wants is Ben Tovey. It isn’t smart, falling for his best friend and fellow SEAL, but ten years with Ben has forged a bond so intimate Maddox can’t ignore it. He needs Ben by his side forever—heart and soul.
Ben admits he likes what he’s seen—his friend’s full lower lip and the perfect muscles of his ass have proved distracting more than once. But Ben’s still reeling from a relationship gone to hell, and he’s not about to screw up his friendship with Maddox, too.
Until their next mission throws Ben and Maddox closer together than ever before, with only each other to depend on.
Now, in the lonely, desperate hours awaiting rescue, the real challenge—confronting themselves, their future and their desires—begins. Man to man, friend to friend, lover to lover.

imageedit_4_2007460609Vir****4 Stars****

This book deserves 4 exquisite and yummy Maddox’s cupcakes.

Though this is book 3 in the “Out of Uniform” series by Annabeth Albert, it could be perfectly read as a standalone. In fact, “On Point” is my first book in this series and I enjoyed it so much, that I’m gonna read the first two as prequels.

There is something beautiful in the way this story starts, with Maddox and Ben taking care of each other in a mission that has gone down. The author shows us a protective Ben, a worried Maddox, and the solid bound both share.
Just watching them interact is enough to know there is trust there. There are loyalty and reliance.

And, of course, there are feelings.

” He couldn’t imagine a team without Maddox on it, couldn’t imagine a world where they didn’t head out together”

As we are witnessing these two men having each other’s back, both are remembering the past, so the present is interspersed with great flashbacks that show the reader how they met, how they bonded and how one night changed everything between them…

Maddox and Ben have been friends for 12 years and theirs is a fantastic friends-to-lovers story. Intense, deep and sweet.

“They weren’t a couple. Couldn’t be a couple. Simple truth was that he had no idea  how to be the man Maddox needed and deserved, and no amount of near-death experiences could change that”

Maddox is adorable, he is a tough navy seal who loves to bake and has a lovely incapacity of course. But most of all, he is a guy in love who has been repressing truths and feelings for a decade now.

Ben is harder, tougher, bitter and more cynical than Maddox. He is the hookup where Maddox is the dating. He is the sexual being when his best friend is the “boyfriend”. He is the practical guy who uses sex as stress relief, where Maddox is the easy optimism prayer who doesn’t sleep around.

“Just friends. As always. He is my best friend”

Both MCs are nearly 30 years old and, as grown experienced men, they have been through a couple of serious and intense relationships. They, as gay military men, have waited for the DADT policy to end, and they have faced family rejection and all kind of dangers together. So they know who they are, they know each other and they have lived their lives. They just need to figure out what to do now, how to face their friendship.

I really loved the book’s structure. Because the seriousness of the present is perfectly mixed with the hotness of the past. Steamy past that is cut in critical moments leaving you drooling and wanting more. So much more.
That present/past frame becomes full mode present with the developing of one of the sweetest, challenging (for them) and natural love story I’ve read lately.

The UST, the jealousy and the denial in this book were delicious.

This is my first time reading Annabeth Albert and I really enjoyed the writing. The friends to lovers thing were perfectly executed and felt natural. They have been friends for a while but not both being single at the same time, so even if the attraction was there they didn’t act or react on this matter. Not at first, at least.

I loved Ben being in denial. Funny and cute as hell. And even if Maddox seems to be the one who has all figured out, he is not. He didn’t want to go deeply into his feelings…

So he is nearly as scared as Ben is.

My favorite things in this story:

  • Very, very likable characters, with their flaws and their problems. Hot alpha males that I really loved.
  • The sex scenes were terrific, perfectly dosed and ridiculously hot. I blushed a lot. Big lust in my case, and it’s not always easy to me. These two are dirty.
  • The mix between sweet, dirty and sad/hard moments. Even if I would say this book is not too angsty, it contains hard things to face, sad situations and serious issues that are perfectly measured with the romantic aspect.

So, I’m reading the first two installments. Both couples made a cameo here but I need more. I especially want to know about the guy who said this:

“Aww. Our favorite odd not-a-couple is back together”

Yeah, it was Apollo and knowing he has kids it’s making me nothing but eager. I love MM stories with kids. Recommended!

I recommended this book!imageedit_44_8150275859
