From the author who brought you A Thousand Boy Kisses comes the new emotional novel, A Wish For Us.
A story of music. A story of healing. A story of love conquering all.
Nineteen-year-old Cromwell Dean is the rising star of electronic dance music. Thousands of people adore him. But no one knows him. No one sees the color of his heart.
Until the girl in the purple dress. She sees through the walls he has built to the empty darkness within.
When Cromwell leaves behind the gray skies of England to study music in the South Carolina heat, the last thing he expects is to see her again. And he certainly doesn’t expect that she’ll stay in his head like a song on repeat.
Bonnie Farraday lives for music. She lets every note into her heart, and she doesn’t understand how someone as talented as Cromwell can avoid doing the same. He’s hiding from his past, and she knows it. She tries to stay away from him, but something keeps calling her back.
Bonnie is the burst of color in Cromwell’s darkness. He’s the beat that makes her heart skip.
But when a shadow falls over Bonnie, it’s up to Cromwell to be her light, in the only way he knows how. He must help her find the lost song in her fragile heart. He must keep her strong with a symphony only he can compose.
A symphony of hope.
A symphony of love.
A symphony of them.

People are complex. Love a double-edged sword.
And when it comes to a broken heart, there are no rules, only time…
For the past eight years, Julien Thornton has been living with a secret. One that only a handful of people know about. To the outside world, he has it all.  A thriving career. A loving husband. And a face that the American public fell for by the millions, on a reality show that inadvertently saved his life.
But behind the shine of celebrity, behind the easygoing nature, a crippling truth fills Julien with pain and self-loathing. It’s a truth that he fights to overcome daily with the help of his husband, Joel Priestley, and now their boyfriend, Robbie Bianchi.
But unlike Priest, Robbie doesn’t know what he’s helping Julien to fight. He doesn’t know what Julien did all those years ago. And with the anniversary of his sister’s death fast approaching, the time for explanations is running out.
And thus the question: will the princess be able to forgive the prick as the priest once did?  Only time will tell.

Chapter One

Those who are meant to be yours will always find you.

“WE MEET again, Mr. Thornton.”

A shiver of awareness raced up Julien Thornton’s spine as he stood in the jail cell of a downtown L.A. police station where he’d been thrown around an hour ago for public intoxication.

He didn’t need to turn to know who was on the opposite side of those steel bars. That voice was the one he’d been hoping to hear when he’d made his “one call” and left a message after a generic voicemail. That voice? It had been on his mind since the last time he’d heard it, nearly two weeks earlier when he’d met—and attempted to steal the car of—a man who called himself Priest.

Julien pivoted on his heels, and when he did, he realized that he’d grossly underestimated the impact that Joel Priestley had had on him the first time around.

Oui, he hadn’t been able to stop thinking about him, that was true, and oui, he might’ve purposely provoked the police officer tonight hoping he’d end up needinglawyer. But Dieu, he’d forgotten the way Priest made his body respond. Like an inferno was licking through his veins.

With auburn hair, stormy eyes, and a presence that Julien gravitated toward like a magnetic force, he didn’t think anything could prepare a person for the powerful energy Priest exuded. Not to mention that cool, judgmental stare of his.

But Julien had no one to blame for that judgment but himself. Maybe if they didn’t always meet at the end of one of his week-long benders, he could have the upper hand with this man for once. And wouldn’t that be délicieux, he thought, as he looked at the lawyer who’d dropped him home two weeks before, instead of at the police station like he’d originally threatened.

Priest was as put together now, at three in the morning, as he had been that afternoon in the alley. Suited up in a tailored navy number that framed his broad shoulders and emphasized the rich color of his hair, he looked sharp, controlled, and dangerous to Julien’s already unstable state of mind as he stood there sizing him up with an unreadable expression.

“I’m curious,” Priest finally said, as he clasped his hands behind his back and took a step closer to the cell where Julien had spent most of the night sobering up. “Did you not understand me the last time we spoke?”

Julien clenched his jaw and wondered if Priest realized how condescending he sounded when he spoke—or just how much it turned Julien on. “Non. I understood just fine.”

“Then what part of ‘I won’t be so lenient next time’ made you think that calling me to bail you out of here was a good idea?”

Julien was still trying to work that out himself, but thought it might have something to do with the fact that he was drawn to this man. There was something about Priest that made him feel alive, when all he’d felt for months now was dead inside.

When Julien didn’t respond, Priest cocked his head, studying him closely, the disapproval rolling off him in waves. “Are you that hard up for a date that this was the only way you could think to get one?”

Putain, the man was arrogant. But for reasons Julien couldn’t explain, that seemed to make him all the more appealing. “You’re the one who gave me your card the last time we met. Perhaps it’s you who are hard up for a date, monsieur. Giving your number out to—”

“Criminals?” Priest frowned. “No. That’s called smart business acumen, considering I’m a criminal attorney.”

Julien scoffed. “I’m hardly a criminal.”

“Really?” Priest said, and took his time examining the six-by-eight space Julien currently stood in. He then leaned forward and said in a lowered voice, “Your current situation tells a different kind of story.”

Despite his “current situation,” and the reason he’d gotten himself into it, Julien felt his lips curve, and he realized exactly why he was drawn to Priest. He possessed the one thing that Julien had been looking for—the ability to take his mind off the black hole his life had become. “Maybe it’s le destin.”

“And what does that mean? Destiny?” Priest straightened and brought his arm around to check the time. “I doubt destiny has anything to do with it. A more likely scenario is that I was your only option.”

“Even if that’s true,” Julien said as he wrapped his fingers around the bars, “you came anyway.”

“As I said before, it’s my job.”

“At three in the morning?”

“At any hour of the morning,” Priest said, and then looked down the hallway that was devoid of anything other than dreary off-white tiles and horribly bright fluorescent lighting. “I’m going to go and see if I can get you out, and then you and I are going to have a talk.”

Something about the way Priest said you and I made Julien’s pulse race, and as Priest went to walk away, Julien whispered, “J’ai vraiment hâte,” and the ever-so-serious lawyer stopped in his tracks and looked back.

This time when those eyes roamed over Julien, his breath caught. There was nothing cool about that stare now. There was heat, interest, and an intensity that made Julien’s fingers tighten around the bars before Priest cut the connection and walked away.

Julien watched him go until he disappeared around the end of the hall, and then he released his breath on a rush. Merde. He’d never been so attracted to someone in all his life, and as he stood there waiting for Priest to save him yet again, Julien knew he needed to stop what he was thinking.

There was no way in hell he deserved someone like that. Non, no way at all. That didn’t, however, stop him from counting down the minutes until Priest returned to him…

From New York Times bestselling author K. Bromberg comes a new, sexy standalone about taking chances and finding love when it’s least expected. Or wanted.
This whole contest was supposed to be easy. I know, I know. Famous last words.
It’s a long story, but I messed up at work. Big time. To earn back the trust of my boss, I promised to save one of our magazines. Yep. That Hot Dad contest you’ve seen advertised all over the place was my idea. And if I’m successful, if I’m able to increase our online readership, then I get a shot at my dream job.
But the one thing I never expected to happen, happened: Contestant number ten, Grayson Malone. Hello, Mr. Difficult. And did I mention sexy as hell?
Unfortunately he knows me. The old me, anyway. And while we might be older now, I remind him of before. Of the woman who broke his heart, who hardened him, and who left him alone to raise the cutest little boy I’ve ever seen.
But I don’t want a relationship. And I definitely don’t fall for single dads with baggage. Even ones with chiseled abs and killer smiles.
But he got to me. They got to me. Him and his son and their messy, crazy life. But I got to him too. I see the stolen glances. I feel the walls he built start to crumble. I recognize that there’s an unexpected beauty to the chaos in his life.
And now that the contest is about to end, we’re left to decide whether the last six months were just fun or if what we have is worth risking it all?

The steamy Chicago Rebels series returns with this racy and sassy tale of embittered hearts, second chances, and going for the goal—on and off the ice.
Violet Vasquez never met her biological father, so learning he left his beloved hockey franchise—the Chicago Rebels—to her is, well, unexpected. Flat broke and close to homeless, Violet is determined to make the most of this sudden opportunity. Except dear old dad set conditions that require she takes part in actually running the team with the half-sisters she barely knows. Working with these two strangers and overseeing a band of hockey-playing lugs is not on her agenda…until she lays eyes on the Rebels captain and knows she has to have him.
Bren St. James has been labeled a lot of things: the Puck Prince, Lord of the Ice, Hell’s Highlander…but it’s the latest tag that’s making headlines: washed-up alcoholic has-been. This season, getting his life back on track and winning the Cup are his only goals. With no time for relationships—except the fractured ones he needs to rebuild with his beautiful daughters—he’s finding it increasingly hard to ignore sexy, all-up-in-his-beard Violet Vasquez. And when he finds himself in need of a nanny just as the playoffs are starting, he’s faced with a temptation he could so easily get hooked on.
For two lost souls, there’s more on the line than just making the best of a bad situation… there might also be a shot at the biggest prize of all: love.

Saying “I love you” doesn’t guarantee peace or a happy ending.
High School Principal “Larx” Larkin was pretty sure he’d hit the jackpot when Deputy Sherriff Aaron George moved in with him, merging their two families as seamlessly as the chaos around them could possibly allow.
But when Larx’s pregnant daughter comes home unexpectedly and two of Larx’s students are put in danger, their tentative beginning comes crashing down around their ears.
Larx thought he was okay with the dangers of Aaron’s job, and Aaron thought he was okay with Larx’s daughter—who is not okay—but when their worst fears are almost realized, it puts their hearts and their lives to the test. Larx and Aaron have never wanted anything as badly as they want a life together. Will they be able to make it work when the world is working hard to keep them apart?

~Guest Post~Amy Lane~

Yoshi and Tane and Eamon and Georgina

Every now and then, I psyche myself into thinking I’m all alone and I have no friends. Childish, I know, but if the people I talk to on a daily basis get busy, if Mate and the kids are completely overrun, I think, “What have I done that I have nobody to talk to right now when I’m bored?” Bear with me here—I freely admit to being twelve on occasion. I have a blessed multitude of friends.  All I really have to do is search my phone, hit up my people on FB messenger, or actually (gasp!) call people who don’t usually do social media. We do not live in a vacuum.

People as busy as Larx and Aaron cannot exist without a support system, and if Larx and Aaron are interesting people, their friends are going to be a laugh riot.  For me, the key to writing a good supporting character is to make sure—in my mind at least—this character has an entire backstory, in canon, that he or she can draw from extensively when engaged in conversation, and boy, do I have some great backstories here.

Eamon, Aaron’s boss at the Sherriff’s office, is nearing retirement age. He’s African American and grew up in this small white town. Of course, when he hit adulthood he couldn’t wait to get away, and after some stints in the army and some time wandering the big wide world, he eventually came back to his roots, but twenty years older, and with a wife in tow. Although Eamon and Georgina are nurturing and kind, they opted not to have children. Instead Georgina spends her time spoiling the crap out of Aaron’s kids, and Eamon thinks of the town as his child. He wants to bring it to a good place in its maturation before he hands it off to Aaron, and when things happen like Deputy Percy Hardesty drawing down on a civilian asset, Eamon gets concerned. Eamon is avuncular, funny, tough, and getting too damned old to go over twenty-four hours without sleep.

Aaron’s not sure what he’d do without Eamon, but he feels privileged to have had the man as his boss and is hopeful about filling his shoes as the Sherriff after the election.

Yoshi Nakamoto was drawn from my own fifth grade teacher, Mr. Nakamoto (who probably had no first name, because who knows their 5th grade teacher’s first name, right?), who was sarcastic, a little bitter, and very devoted to his students. Yoshi’s backstory is that he grew up a little privileged, and decided he wanted to teach because it was the only thing he could do with a degree in literature and he really hated any of the business courses his parents yearned for him to take. He was a devoted teacher at an inner city school, to the extent that when one of his students dropped off the map, he chased the kid down to an inner-city kid’s program, and that’s where he met Tane Pavelle.

Tane is weathered, prematurely aged from drug addiction and living on the street, and giving kids art, the thing that saved him, is his way of paying back the world for letting him fight his own demons. Tane simply melts around Yoshi. Their courtship was very much Yoshi saying things like, “So, I’ll be back tomorrow with lunch. What do you want? Yes, it’s a date, I’m asking you right?” And Tane, who’s life had been very hard before this, was like, “Uh, chicken?” When Yoshi showed up with chicken, Tane fell in love.

But Tane was broken, and when his sister said she and her family were moving up to the wilds of Colton, he felt like he had to follow her, and asking Yoshi, this fantastic creature who just worried his way into Tane’s life and made himself at home, seemed like too much. He’d had Yoshi, he had to give him back—Tane Pavelle didn’t get a Yoshi Nakamoto in his life. He just didn’t.

Which was why Yoshi packed his bags, got a job at the local high school and showed up on Tane’s doorstep, probably saying things like, “Let me in, dumbass!” and, “You don’t have any food, do you. That’s right, you don’t see Yoshi for a month and you forget to eat. Jesus you’re stupid, now move over and let me have your drawer.”

If I had worlds enough and time, I’d write that story in a heartbeat.

So Yoshi and Eamon and their respective mates hopefully feel real. I know that in my own head, they are fully realized. I know what they said to their parents when they brought their beloveds home, I know roughly how their courtship went, and I know what drives them.

Even if they only get a few pages in Larx and Aaron’s books, I think they’ve got enough going on in their own lives to steal the show.

My name is Theoden, this is the story of my life. Apparently, there has been a huge demand for me to tell it. Normally, I do what I want, unless the command comes from my Sire, Ara. But, revealing the tale about how I became the powerful vampire Prince of the City is something I think I will enjoy telling. You’ll see my first mission for the church, my first kill, the life-changing moment when I lost my virginity, and how I chose my first son, all of the things that mean something to me, that made me the vampire I am. So, sit back, and give me all of your attention, as I want your eyes on me. Now, let’s begin.
Prepare to be entertained to new heights as Theoden delivers you a unique tale of his life from childhood to the vampire Master you know him to be.

Warning: This is a prequel to the highly erotic, extremely dark and twisted New Haven Series and the spin-off, Odin Chronicles. I can’t stress enough how strong the sexual, violent, and adult content is in this book. It will steam up your glasses, and melt your contact lenses. The temperature in the room will rise to unbearable degrees. Pearls will be clutched and you may utter the words: “Oh my God” several times while reading. You have been warned. ~Guest Post~Nicholas Bella~

Thank you for giving me this amazing opportunity to talk about myself and this book that I’ve written. When I first wrote the New Haven Series, I wasn’t so sure where I’d take this story. I only had the idea that I wanted to see the hero of the people, a rebel, get captured by his enemy and turned into the thing he hated most of all. That was Noel’s story, but as I wrote it, it evolved into something more. This whole world began to grow bigger, sexier, more dangerous, and opportunistic. Characters came out of the woodwork to breathe even more life into the series. It’s become a beast in and of itself, with no signs of slumbering.

It was around the second season in the series when fans started asking for Théoden’s story. How did he become the vampire master that he is? There were little hints of his past weaved throughout the series, but nothing that went into depth, leaving Théoden somewhat of a mystery. So, in 2016, I wrote a 11k short story detailing the moment of his embracing for an anthology. But, I knew that wasn’t enough, or good enough for my fans. I really had to pull the curtain back. So, when I got the rights back to the story, I decided to break down the significant moments in Théoden’s life that shaped the man and vampire he became. It’s truly an adventure, one that is sure to leave new and current readers breathless.

So, if you do decide to dive into Théoden, make sure you have an open mind and a desire to be highly entertained. I hope you enjoy.

Fire and ice. Oil and water. Vodka and decisions. That’s what Darren McCoy and Wren Davison are: two opposites that shouldn’t mix well. Dare believes in fairy tales, true love, and happily ever after. Wren believes in fast cars, freedom, and no-strings sex. What can these two men possibly have in common? A magnetic pull strong enough to obliterate logic and reason.
For more than a year, Dare and Wren have worked together at the Curl Up and Dye Salon. Dare has pursued the mysterious, brooding man, and Wren has resisted his provocative charm. Then one day, something happens that allows the men to see each other in a new light. Wren learns that Dare hides a heavy heart behind his brilliant smile. Dare realizes that beneath Wren’s gruff exterior beats the heart of a prince.
Passions ignite once the men stop fighting their attraction, but will it be enough to overcome their differences? Is Wren the prince that Dare is looking for? Can Dare teach Wren that true love does exist?

~Interview with Aimee Nicole Walker~

Thank you for talking with us and congratulations on the release of Nobody’s Prince Charming!

Thank you so much for having me here!

  • 1. What inspired you to write your new book, Nobody’s Prince Charming?

I first introduced Dare and Wren in Unscripted Love, which was the first book in the Road to Blissville series. These two fellas came into Curl Up and Dye to interview for jobs, and they intrigued me from the very start. Dare was snarky and funny where Wren was mysterious and brooding. I immediately knew that they would have books, but I didn’t know that they were meant for each other until they appeared in A Dye Hard Holiday. I knew next to nothing about their personalities or their backstories, but it was the absolute easiest story I’ve ever written.

  • 2. From Nobody’s Prince Charming, which character was the most challenging to write?

This book flowed from me easier than any I’ve written, so neither character felt particularly challenging. If forced to choose, I’d say that Wren was hardest to write because it’s more difficult for me to write brooding, mysterious characters. That’s the opposite of my natural personality, so I have to dig deeper to embed myself into those characters.

  • 3. What’s the hardest part of being an author?

For me, the hardest part of being an author is stepping away from writing and making time for myself. Self-care is critical, and I’m trying to be kinder to myself.

  • 4. If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?

Hold On for Dear Life!

  • 5. How do you celebrate, either once you’ve finished writing a book or when a book is officially released to the public?

I usually celebrate typing “The End!” by taking a relaxing bath that may or may not include a glass of wine or other spirits. As for release day, I sometimes get a pedicure with my daughter or buy something little like a new coffee mug. For Nobody’s Prince Charming, I bought a new cover for my kindle.

  • 6. What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

I have tv nights with my amazing friend and co-author, Nicholas Bella. We watch something on Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime and chat about it. I like to do creative things like making DIY bath bombs because a bath and a book is my favorite way to enjoy downtime.

  • 7. What can we expect next from you?  What are you working on now?

I just finished book four in the Road to Blissville series featuring Andy and Milo. I anticipate releasing that book early May. I will start book five this week for Memphis and Lyric. I’m also working on collaborations with Nicholas Bella and also Annabella Michaels, who has been a dear friend long before either of us published our first books.

* *
I do what I want and who I want. I don’t follow anyone’s rules—even my own.
I knew I shouldn’t touch her, but it didn’t stop me.
Didn’t stop me the second time either. Only made me want a third.
My lifestyle suits the savage I am, and she doesn’t.
But Temperance Ransom is my newest addiction, and I’m nowhere near ready to quit her yet.
I’ll have her my way, even if it means dragging her into the darkness.
Hopefully it doesn’t kill us both.
* *
—Savage Prince is book one of the Savage Trilogy, set in the same world as Ruthless King, however you do not need to read the Mount Trilogy to devour this scandalously hot new trilogy.—

“That you, Temperance?”

My gaze searches the darkness, interrupted only by the Chinese lanterns and fairy lights hanging from the trees, until it lands on the red dragon emblazoned on the back of a black silk kimono, topped by a fluffy white head of hair.

Shit. My landlady.

“I’m so sorry to disturb you, Harriet. I’ll just—”

She spins around, spry for her advanced age. “Oh, girl, you’ve got sex hair. At least that makes one of us.”

I squeeze my eyes shut in humiliation. “I . . . uh . . . got—”

“Done up right by a real man, I’d say. About damn time, girl. I was starting to think you were a lost cause of all work and no play. Almost wondered if I’d have to find a new tenant to get some entertainment around here.”

I blink twice as she shuffles toward me, fluffy pink marabou slippers on her feet. “You were going to kick me out because I work too much?”

I knew my landlady was a little nutty, but I didn’t realize she was downright crazy.

“It would’ve been a last resort. I was going to send you a male stripper first. Girl, you need some fun in your life, and you do nothing but go between here and work. Boring as hell.”

Her point is finally sinking in, but part of me is still in shock. “I’m boring?”

“Of course you are. I swear, you go out of your way to stay that way too. But not tonight. Tonight, you look like you got dicked down by a real man.” She takes a seat at the outdoor patio table and reaches for a bottle of wine. “Here’s a glass. Now, sit down and consider part of your rent spilling the juicy details.”

Dumbstruck, I close the distance between us and take a seat at the table. “It’s nothing. I swear.”

“Girl, you’re practically walking bowlegged. I’ve been around the block plenty of times. You won’t shock me.”

I reach for the glass of wine and take a long drink. Good Lord, I needed this.

“I shouldn’t even be admitting what I did tonight.”

Harriet’s aged eyes practically light up as she grins. “Those are the best stories. Come now, I’ll take it to the grave.”

I squeeze my eyes shut. “I think I accidentally went to a sex club.”

Harriet’s wineglass clinks the metal of the table. “I knew this was going to be good. How do you accidentally go to a sex club?”

I tell her about the note that came to the office, and rushing to meet the appointment, assuming I was there to sell whiskey . . . and end with the part about running from the room.

Harriet claps with childlike excitement. “There’s hope for you yet, Temperance. When are you going back?”

I’m stunned at her reaction. I didn’t exactly expect her to judge, but I sure didn’t think she’d cheer me on.

“Never. I can’t. That’s not me. I’m not . . .”

“Interesting? Sexually adventurous? Up to be manhandled regularly by a real man?”

“I don’t even know his name!”

Harriet waves off my concern. “If I had a nickel for every man whose name I didn’t know, I’d be even richer than I am now. You can’t take life so seriously. You’ll never make it out alive. Now, you go upstairs, take the rest of this bottle of wine, and get tipsy enough to forget all the shouldn’ts and can’ts. If you need me to do some stalking to find this guy, just let me know. I have connections.”

“You and I are opposites. You like quiet and order, and I thrive on chaos. I want everything you have and more. The boisterous family with the ancient traditions and food for days. I can’t even watch My Big Fat Greek Wedding without getting jealous. And that’s your real life.”

“Times ten,” I agreed with a half laugh.

Miles chuckled. “Humans are a mystery. Why are we never happy with what we have?”

I lowered my hand to his waist and hooked my fingers through his belt loop. “We don’t see well. We don’t know when to speak and when to listen. We don’t understand the nuances in taste and touch. Take your pick.”

“Mmm. Personally, I think we rely too heavily on looks. Physical appearances and perceived appearances. It takes patience and effort to really see the person under skin and bones. The scars and insecurities. To sift through their baggage while they do the same to you and cross your fingers, hoping like mad that you pass the test. It’s so…hard.”

“I’ve heard if you find the right partner it’s worth it,” I said softly.

Miles sighed and leaned heavily against my side. We fell silent for a moment, letting the squawk of seagulls and the medley of tourists’ voices mix with the occasional bark of a sea lion. We were part of a crowd and yet separate enough to hear our own thoughts.

“Thank you for today,” he said after awhile.

“I didn’t do anything special.”

“Sure you did. You took me on a date.”

“It wasn’t a real date. I can do better,” I assured him with a wry grin.

“No complaints here. Oh, except you made me walk three miles and—”

“Hey, at least I avoided the steeper streets.”

Miles snickered. “You were probably afraid I’d get tired and demand a piggyback ride.”

“Yeah, that did cross my mind,” I agreed sarcastically. “How about if I buy you a coffee for the walk back to the car?”

“Make it a hot chocolate and promise to hold my hand the whole way, and you’ve got yourself a deal,” he countered with a straight face.

My smile was so big it hurt. I enveloped him in a giant bear hug and pulled back to kiss his forehead. “Deal.”

I laced my fingers with his and pulled him through the crowd to the boardwalk. And I didn’t let go. Block after block through familiar city streets and eclectic neighborhoods, I kept him close, marveling at how right it felt just being with him. I noted his shy, pleased smile and cautioned myself not to read too much into the look. I didn’t want to ruin the mood by saying too much. But I knew it was a matter of time before I lost myself to Miles completely.

☆☆☆Guest Post~S.E. Harmon☆☆☆

Hi all! Thanks to Dirty Books Obsession for having me on my blog tour. I’m here to talk a little bit about my latest release, The Blueprint. When I started outlining this story, I knew several things—I wanted Blue to be a football player, I wanted the main characters to be best friends, and I wanted the story to be OFY/GFY. I know OFY/GFY can be a controversial topic, but it’s one of my favorite tropes…and I like to write what I like to read.  Besides, what could be better than sexual discovery with the person that knows you best in the whole world?

Blue’s path to love isn’t an easy one, but that’s to be expected. There’s a little frustrating push and pull, but that’s to be expected, too. His indecision almost splits him into two people. Part of him who knows this burgeoning thing with Kelly can’t go any further…not if he wants his life to go exactly the way he planned. But then there’s another part of him…the part that just doesn’t give a fuck and wants Kelly no matter what.

Nothing worth having is ever easy, and Blue and Kelly are about to learn that lesson well. I hope you have fun with these guys…I certainly did.

Happy Reading!

Kelly took the broom and started to sweep again. “Apparently part of my mother’s welcome-home package includes cleaning out the garage within an inch of its life. What’re you doing here?”

That was a good fucking question. One I still hadn’t come up with an answer for. Clearly he was fine, and I was the biggest worrywart who ever worried. “What does it look like?”

“It looks like you’re here just in time to help me clean out the garage.”

“Dream on, Cannon.”

He brushed his hair out of his eyes again. It was longer than he usually liked it, but I thought the length looked good. It suited him. “How’d you even know I was here?” he asked.

“I called Kennedy. Apparently she still knows how to use a phone.” My tone was pointed, and he blushed a little and swept more vigorously.

“I told you I was fine.”

“No, you texted me you were fine. I haven’t spoken with you since the night of the party. What was I supposed to think?”

“That I’d been chopped up by an ax murderer. Obviously that’s the only reasonable conclusion.”

“Clearly,” I said with a sigh. I didn’t bother to tell him he wasn’t amusing—mostly because it was obvious.

“You were supposed to report me missing, not come charging down here to find me. You’re the executor of my will, Blue.” He sent me an accusing look. “How can I count on you to carry out my last wishes if you don’t follow instructions?”

“That depends. Do I still get your Infiniti in your will?”

“Kennedy got me out of pepper planting this morning, so she gets the Infiniti. I’m leaving you my Planet Earth DVDs.”

It felt good to joke with him, laugh with him, be with him. A Kelly who wanted space made me anxious. There was a little embarrassment mixed in there too. Apparently my oldest friend was ready to move on from our clingy childhood ways, and I wasn’t.

“I still can’t believe you made a four-hour drive just to see if I was okay.”

Well, when he put it so incredulously, it did sound a tad stalkerish. “That’s what happens when you don’t answer the fucking phone.”

“I’m sorry.” He sent me a look that was sincerely apologetic. “You know how I can get.”

I did. The knowing didn’t make it any easier to bear. “You can’t just clam up like that. It’s not fair.”

“You’re right.”

“Of course I am. Not to mention there are a couple ways to get away from me, sure, but none of them include something as simple as sending me to voicemail.”

His mouth curved. “Good to know.”
