Cowboys Don’t Ride Unicorns(Cowboys Don’t #2)

by Tara Lain

****3.5 Stars rounded to 4****

I haven’t read the previous book in this series, so it’s safe to say that this one can be read as a stand alone. I usually don’t read a lot of books that have a femme/flamboyant hero, because I am much more into the whole big bad alpha thing.

What I do love, however, are cowboys…they are my kryptonite.

8241146.gif (320×181)

Danny is a ranch hand at a dude ranch, which is owned by Rand (book 1). He used to be a famous bull rider in the past, but his dad put a stop to that, in a very cruel way. Danny changed his name and even though, he still rides on rodeo’s from time to time, to make some money…

…he tries to stay as far away from his past as he can.

large.gif (500×281)

Danny also has a very specific preference, when it comes to his romance/sex life. He loves flamboyant men, but he loves it even, more when they top him. Finding such a mystical unicorn isn’t very easy, though.

giphy.gif (500×221)

Until one day, such a rare unicorn walks into the ranch as a guest…. Danny feels an immediate attraction towards the flamboyant man. There is only one problem. Laurie didn’t come alone, he is with his boyfriend. His very rich boyfriend.

While Danny is trying to outrun his past, Laurie is struggling with his future.

Apollo-13-Houston-We-Have-a-Problem-Tom-Hanks.gif (500×214)

He wants to do right by his parents and he knows his boyfriend could be a big help, but shouldn’t his feelings matter. He knows Grove is not the man for him. What he really wants is a go at that cowboy.

Luckily for both of them, he gets that chance …

“Hang on. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride”.

lipsilhoutte.jpg (960×854):

But what will happen when Danny is confronted with his past and Laurie’s future gets in the way….

This book was heavy on the insta-love, I would have liked it more if the two of them would have gotten to know each other a bit better. I also would have liked to read more about Danny and his father. The situation between them was quite volatile and it was fixed a bit too fast and easy for my taste.

Still was a very nice read, even though my preference for alpha men has not changed.

In the end, I am happy that Danny found his unicorn….

“Everyone knows it takes a real cowboy to ride a unicorn”.

~Review~Exposed by Bey Deckard~

Exposed by Bey Deckard

***2.5 Stars***

2.5 st

Exposed wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for.

Some bits I liked, others not so much.
It took me a while to grasp what wasn’t working for me, but by the end of it, it was clear.

Greg’s character (Daddy) brought to the story a heavy and traumatic baggage from his past.
The author exposes Greg’s broken side, his vulnerability, insecurities, and fears of leading a dominant relationship again. Add to all that, an extra and new aggravating factor: an age gap of 20 years. Greg was scared and thus always holding something back, when the other part, Emyr, wanted to get into this shite heads in!

This combo wasn’t appealing to me.

It was like throwing a damp towel on all my dirty expectations. You have a kink? Daddy kink? whatever kink? Own your shit.

Sometimes, a bit of depth and angst mixed with kink works for me. This time, it failed.
I am sure this will work brilliantly for some readers. I for one was looking for something more shameless.

A truly moving love story

There is a note to the reader at the start of this book, from the Author.I’m only going to quote her final words and hopefully, that will be enough to convince anyone to read this amazing book.

No one will die in this book. You will not journey with Landon to his end.Instead, you will walk beside him and watch him live.

I knew reading this would be painful for me as someone very close to me had the exact same illness Landon has.I knew all those memories would come flooding back and they did but I wouldn’t have missed reading this for anything.

Landon is 26 and has a terminal illness.

He’s working his way through his bucket list and while he’s in China he meets Abel. Abel is like a breath of fresh air….he’s pushy but so endearing. Landon is happy in his own company, he’s resigned to the fact he can’t let anyone get close to him.

But Abel has other ideas…

After their initial encounter they bump into each other again and no matter how hard he tries Landon can’t seem to deter Abel. One of the things on his bucket list is to have sex with a stranger so Landon thinks why not?

It was only supposed to be a one night stand…

Landon and Abel are two of the most engaging characters I’ve read about and together they are perfect.
I had a lump in my throat more than once reading this.

I felt…
Every emotion.
Every struggle.
Every happy moment.
Every sad moment.

The message is a strong one and it’s so beautifully written.

Life is for living!

Take every moment, and if you’re lucky enough to find that special person to share it with-grasp it with both hands and don’t let go.

“I love you, Abel, as much as you’ve made this harder on me, you’ve made my life a million times brighter. No regrets, okay?”

This book ended with hope for me.
Hope, that these two amazing men get to share their lives'(however short) together.

Landon and Abels’ story is just beautiful.

Highly recommended!

A copy of No Regrets was given to me by Nicky James for an honest review.

~Review~ Bait by Lissa Ford~

Bait (Bait & Switch #1) by Lissa Ford

*****5 Stars*****

“We can deal with your past when you just let us get on with our present.”

tumblr_static_filename_640_v2.gif (500×208)

This book was so right up my alley and I devoured it within not even two days. That alone should be indication enough of how much I loved it. And we are talking about a long book here. The story held me captivated from the first page up until the very last, never a dull or dragging moment.

Danny is a Special Agent with the FBI, following a long family tradition.

It is not an obligation for him, though, it is passion. He loves his job and he wants to make a difference, but he feels the pressure that comes with his name, nonetheless. On the one hand, there are his colleagues, at least some of them, who give him the side eye because they always suspect some sort of nepotism, of him being favored. On the other hand, there is always the fear of disappointing his family, of not living up to their expectations, even if his family is very understanding and caring in this regard.

When a sting goes wrong, the guilt of having this fear proven right makes him desperately grab for the last chance his boss offers to stay a field agent: an undercover job as a hustler in a gay nightclub to convict the owner as the leader of an extortion ring using sex slaves for bait.

Alexi, the owner of Club Fetish, has his own fair share of guilt.

Guilt over events in his past that helped him survive, but led to destroy the lives of innocent bystanders. He is a criminal who tries to left his past behind and who built up something on his own. A name. A business. A life.

When both men meet they are caught by surprise by the pure lust they feel in an instant…

… but there is also something else.

No worries, not insta-love, but each man stirs something in the other both did not expect, much less want to pursue. Being together with a cop is bad for business and being together with a criminal – even more so, a suspect – is even worse for the career. Furthermore, Dan is not even sure about his own sexuality, much less out of the closet. To solve the case, Dan has to decide how far he would go, how much he can trust Alexi to be on the right side and what he would do to give them a chance.

Some reviewers said in their reviews that this book is lacking the romance. I would only partially agree. First of all, this is the beginning of a series and with the background of both characters, the romance definitely needs development. Alexi is a suspect in a crime after all and there are trust issues left and right. Declaring their undying love for each other would have been less than believable in my eyes. And no, there is no “real” sex in this book, but both men have lots of page-time together and whenever they meet, for me the atmosphere was sizzling, just because of the looks they shared, or the things they said, or when they kissed… I could feel the chemistry there and that was enough for me.

The next book is due this year and I really hope that will be true because I cannot wait to see where this is going.

~Review~Leo Loves Aries by Anyta Sunday~

Leo Loves Aries (Signs of Love #1) by Anyta Sunday

*****4.5 Stars*****

This is just adorable!

I’ve had it on my Kindle for a while but it wasn’t until I saw a friend’s status update that I decided to read it and once I started it, I couldn’t put it down.
Theo….what can I say, I just loved that boy….completely clueless in the most endearing way.

Theo and his twin sister, Leone, are star signs, Leo.

They’ve both been hurt in love and set about trying to get each other dates for the upcoming wedding of both their ex’s.Their mother is into horoscopes in a big way and is constantly giving them predictions about the future.

Jamie’s star sign is Aries. He’s an ex-tutor of Theo.

Theo and Leone are looking for a roommate, Jamie is looking for a new place so it’s the perfect arrangement right?

This book captivated me….

I loved

  • The banter between Theo and Jamie was just brilliant.

I loved

  • Their chemistry and interactions….
Jamie being so awkward ice skating,
    Their trips for food shopping,
Jamie for taking care of Theo, without him even realizing it,
The, not so subtle, innuendos that Jamie kept throwing about.
  • Leone for being a strong, independent women.

Theo: Why do I hear the emphasis on ‘you’? Am I that hard to be around?

Jamie: You said it.

Theo starts off seeing Jamie as a really good friend….over time, a best friend. He misses him when he’s not around but he straight so gets confused when he starts to feel an attraction to him and jealous of other people getting close to him.

The jealousy….I LOVED it.

Jamie getting jealous over Theo dating.
Theo getting jealous over Jamie’s best friend.

Yes, it’s a slow burn and not overly graphic as regards sex scenes but it totally worked for me….
I’m still swooning.

Highly Recommended!

~Review~True Colors by Anyta Sunday~

True Colors (True Love #2) by Anyta Sunday

*****4.5 Stars*****

4.5+STARS.png (629×121):

I absolutely loved “Leo loves Aries”, so when I was given the opportunity to read and reviews this book, I jumped on it.

True Colors is a sweet story about friends, loss, fear forgiveness and love.

Marco and Oskar have been best friends since they were little. Oskar has always been there for Marco, especially after his mother died and he got hurt. Oskar has been his rock his first color…his sunglow yellow.

That is until they are 16 and he’s not anymore…

giphy.gif (500×241)

Fast forward 4 years and Oskar is back in town.

Marco is still very angry and hurt. Oskar is the reason for all his insecurities and he can’t find it in himself to forgive and pretend like nothing happened. Avoiding Oskar is not an option either. Especially since Oskar’s family lives next door to his father and grandfather, they are all good friends. The fact that Oskar’s sister Zoe is one of Marco’s best friends complicates things even further.

To make matters worse, they are forced to act together in a play, Marco’s father is producing. It’s a play to honor Marco’s deceased mother, so saying no is not an option. Oskar seems pretty happy to be in this play. He wants to patch things up between two of them.

He really wants to makes things right.

r2a8v1.gif (400×226)

They are co-stars and it’s up to Marco to decide on the ending….there are two options….a tragic one or a HEA. Marco isn’t ready to leave the past behind and….

…he is set on the tragic ending.

10813276.gif (500×281)

Slowly but surely they start to start to rebuilt their friendship. This is a very slow burn, but once with get there…it burns like hell !!

“There hasn’t been a day since I was fourteen that you weren’t on my mind. I wanted to hold you: I wanted to make you laugh: I also wanted to stretch you out naked on my bed: I wanted to push inside of you and fuck you until you convulsed with my name quivering at your lips. I want you, Marco. Every inch of you.”

tumblr_munynzOIUh1sunxd5o1_500.gif (500×488)

I really enjoyed this one. I loved reading about Marco and all his colors. I am very happy he got his sunglow yellow back…

glow.gif (1267×576):

“You were my first color”. “My happy. My everything.”

Sunglow Yellow. The start of our story.

~Review~Let Love Live by Melissa Collins~

Let Love Live (Love #5) by Melissa Collins

****4 Stars****

4stars.jpg (640×150):

I was a bit nervous about reading this one. I am not a huge fan of the “deceased lover” trope and the fact that this book was divided into two storylines, “before” and “after”, really had me worried. I shouldn’t have, though, especially since this book was so highly recommended by my friend Ralu. Thanks again dear Ralu !!

The story starts off with Dylan and Shane being teenagers and best friends. Both are still in high school. Both are also struggling with the fact, that they are gay and falling in love with their best friend. When they confess their darkest secret to one another, it’s bittersweet. Sweet because these boys found so much love with each other.

Bitter because being together is not as easy as it may sound.

wu18aoU.jpg (245×210):

Things are especially hard for Shane. His home life is already beyond fucked up with his piece of shit, abusive and alcoholic father.

Imagine what would happen when he finds out the truth.

no+one+can+know.gif (245×180)

Once both boys are off to college, they continue their relationship from a distance…sneaking around so Shane’s family won’t find out he is gay. But if there is one thing I have learned from all the books I have ever read,…

…it’s that secrets always have a way of coming out.

spencer-hastings-truth.gif (500×243)

And when it does…things take a turn for the absolute worst. I felt so sorry for Shane and how he was feeling.

At the same time, my heart broke for Dylan…

Heartbreak_animation_by_xemeky-d3eckgw.gif (556×411)

The second half of the book brings us to 8 years later.

Dylan is working as a counselor for the Gay/Straight allegiance. But for all the counseling he is doing for others…he is not so good with taking his own advice. Dylan is still living under an amount of guilt and hasn’t been able to hold onto a real relationship for longer than 6 months.

His guilt and especially his fears won’t let him…let go.

images (300×168):

This is when he meets Connor.

Connor is a former MMA fighter who has recently opened a gym. Connor hasn’t had the easiest of life either, but even though he has lost his dream of being an MMA fighter…he won’t give up on his other dream. Finding love and being happy.

There is an instant connection between these two men and even though Dylan tries to keep things casual at first…Dylan won’t let him. I really loved Dylan. I admired him for standing up for what he wanted and for not giving up on Dylan right away.

Ub5uB7Z.jpg (312×319):

“You brought me back to life simply by just being here. And I don’t ever want to picture a life that you’re not a part of.”

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this one. I would have liked a bit more Dylan and Connor if I’m honest. Everything went so fast all of a sudden, while the first part of the book seemed a bit slower paced.

Still, it was a very nice “second change” book about loss and love and letting go.

Title: Step By Step
Author: K.C. Wells
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Release Date: March 13, 2017
Genre(s): M/M, Contemporary Romance

Jamie’s life is one big financial mess, and it really isn’t his fault. However, the last thing he expected to find in the library was a Good Samaritan. He might have been suspicious of Guy’s motives at first, but it soon becomes apparent that his savior is a good man who has been lucky in life and is looking to pay it forward. Guy being gay is not a problem. Jamie’s not interested… or so he thinks.

Guy is happy to help Jamie, and the two men get along fine. But when Jamie’s curiosity leads him from one thing to another, Guy finds himself looking at the younger man with new eyes. What started out as a hand up is now something completely different….

Step by Step by K.C. Wells

****4 Stars****

I’m not normally a fan of an age difference but this really worked for me.

Jamie is nearly 21 and struggling to put himself through college.

The college fund his parents had for him has been used for his parents long and messy divorce. He’s just lost one of the three jobs he had and is behind with his rent when a kind of Knight in Shining Armour steps in.

Guy is 38 and has a very comfortable life.

He offers Jamie a room in his home, wants to help with bills and tuition and genuinely wants Jamie to get the best out of life.
You might be forgiven for thinking this was just a bit unbelievable but somehow it wasn’t and I think it’s because Guy is a good man…I mean a really good man. There was no creepy ulterior motive about Guy’s proposal. He had been in a similar situation when he was young and someone stepped up to help him and he wants to repay the favor.

Guy is upfront about his sexuality. He’s gay but has two grown up children around Jamie’s age from a relationship when he was young.Jamie is straight and hasn’t had much time or inclination for sex.

There is no insta lust here.

They become friends and develop a mutual respect for each other. But gradually things change and their relationship develops at just the right pace.I don’t think this book it about being labeled as gay, straight or bi…’s a story of two men who connect emotionally and then physically.I enjoyed their friendship just as much as their sexual relationship…

…which was smoking hot!!

Some brilliant supporting characters, especially Ryan and Cole…….I so want their stories. The Epilogue giving teasers about Cole was very intriguing. I’m hoping his story is next if there is going to be one??

Talking of the Epilogue….I’m not normally bothered either way about one but this was just perfect.
A recommended read, even if you’re not a fan of an age difference I think this one might convert you.

~Review~ Cronin’s Key by N.R. Walker~

Cronin’s Key (Cronin’s Key #1) by N.R. Walker

****3.5 Stars****

3-5-star-rating-hi.png (600×108):

Wow…this one is a hard one for me to rate. I really liked the world-building and the characters, though there were also some things I enjoyed less.

Seeing that this is the first book in this series, there was a bit of an information dump going on. I didn’t mind, though because to it was all very interesting.

I loved the mystery and mythology. Also…I love vampires !!!

17417301.gif (500×279)

This book is about Alec MacAidan (Ailieg) and Cronin (no last name like Cher)

Alec has been an NYPD for some time and in that time he has witnessed some very weird shit. To be honest, he has been witnessing weird shit ever since he was a little boy. He doesn’t really question it anymore.

He has excepted that “weird” just seems to follow him around.

giphy.gif (500×229)

Cronin has been a vampire for more than 1000 years.

He and his friends Eiji and Jovis are the leaders of their coven. Vampires all have some special ability and Cronin’s ability is that he can leap from one place to the other, in the blink of an eye, taking anyone he wants with him.

tumblr_mwvqu6YnNm1syrodeo1_500.gif (500×280)

For 1300 years he has been waiting patiently for his “fated” one, and guess who that is…

right …Alec.

DENSITY_B2TF.gif (478×226)

Of course, these guys have instant chemistry because of well…..destiny and fated and mates and all that !! At first, Alec isn’t too happy about all of this. He can except all the weird shit without freaking out, but he isn’t a big fan of having his will being taken away. He wants someone to be with him because they want to be, not because it is written in the stars.

But we all know you can’t fight destiny, so he starts to fall for Cronin…

tumblr_n32q2vKpKE1rec5nao1_500.gif (500×281)

While this two dance around each other, there are some more pressing matters at hand. Some evil bitch queen vampire is trying to raise an army by resurrecting the dead in Egypt. Only “the key” will be able to stop her. Guess who the key is…..right Alec.

So Cronin, Alec, and their vampire buddies are off to Egypt to fight a war.

Like I said….I liked this book but I was a bit disappointed about some things. Cronin being one of them. I like my vampires to be a bit more alpha I think. I was looking forward to some Grrr and Arrrgghh. What I got was a bit of a puppy. Also, a ginger vampire with freckles…

…No…I wasn’t down with that at all !!

latest (406×200)

I loved Alec, though. He was the bomb !! I laughed my ass off with all the things he said.

” This is detective MacAiden. I request an APB, I repeat, an APB on a sense of humor. Belonging to a Mr. Cronin I-have-no-last-name-like-Cher. Last seen approximately in the year 744. Yes, you heard correctly 744.”

The side-characters were also amazing, especially Eiji. I just wished I would have felt more chemistry and love between Cronin and Alec. Something was missing to me. This was a slow build insta-love. I think because there was so much going on, I didn’t get to really know them as a couple. One minute Alec is fighting his destiny and the next he gives up and gives in. The steam was also a bit lacking I think. For how long these two waited to finally get it on…I felt a bit let down. It was hot, but I guess I just wanted a bit more between the two of them.

“M’cridhe. M’gràdh.”      “My heart. My love.”

16b5eafaa67073420ed0bb6ac7a6f16b.jpg (236×354):

I am still gonna read book 2 of course because I think this book was a promising start to this series, so I hope book 2 will be better, now that we have all the information and world-building.

The Salt of Your Tears by M. Caspian

****4.5 Stars****

Last year I read The Arroyo by M Caspian and I loved it. So, I was really surprised and happy when I stumbled on this review a few days back from a fellow I am a follower.

  • Sold!
    Thank you!
    One click!
And a BIG thanks again to the lady who reads a lot!

Sweet baby Jesus, The Salt of Your Tears was so inappropriately good.

Free Online Image Editor:

I don’t mean wickedly and sinfully good only, I mean wrong good, a total guilty pleasure.

This was a hell of a kinky story; therefore, be aware:  is not for all.
We are gifted with three short stories in 88 pages. Yep, that’s right, THAT short. How 3 short stories can turn out to be so good? Well, you’ll have to read it.
The 1st and 3rd stories left me in a weird dimension, some bizarre frequency between the real and the fantasy. I really didn’t know where I was standing. Is this shit real? Am I missing something? Is he dreaming? Is this a nightmare? Wait! perhaps it’s a PRN? no, I think is fantasy. Well, whatever.

I am in awe with that, simple as that.  This kind of power that takes us, mere mortal readers to the imaginable,  is the reason I read.

1) In His Skin

  • 5 Stars! I loved this! The writing was different, captivating, and lyrical. It got me entranced and deeply involved. Now, be aware: it was wrong. It was wrong, dirty and I loved. whispering involves pain. Ouch.

Free Online Image Editor

2) Asking For It

  • 5 Stars! What to say, people? Hawwwwt!!! So freaking hot and dirty! The whole story spans in one single encounter. Don’t read this expecting any kind of development between the MC’s. That is not what this is about.

Free Online Image Editor

3) A Song in the Blood

  • 4 Stars. I didn’t fancy it as much as the others. It was a bit shocking and disturbing but I have to give it credit because this author has no boundaries in terms of imagination. And because I have none, here we go! 4 Stars.

Free Online Image Editor

Summing up, The Salt of Your Tears was hot, kinky, dark, sinful, wicked, inappropriate and so damn good!

Hard Drive.
I am aware that my thoughts are really vague. If you want to know more details, read the SheReadsALot‘s review.
Remember: it’s not for all. Just don’t blame me afterward.  😉
