~Synopsis~

So, Where’s All The Sex?
My gosh, I almost feel guilty having a blog post on a site called Dirty Books Obsession that contains all of one complete sex scene in it. There are more intimate scenes, there are some close calls, but there’s only one fully-realized sex scene. Yeah. I know. What the hell?
I like to write sex. I really like to read it, and given my personal preferences, shouldn’t I be getting more of that action into my own books? The answer is an absolute, unequivocal maybe. It just depends on the book, for me. Some authors are truly reliable when it comes to what you’re getting with their stories—all sweet, or all sex, all the time. I’m…not.
For me, it really all depends on the characters and their personal situations. No, hear me out, this isn’t a bunch of BS—character is everything for me when it comes to sex. Character and circumstance. If the hottest guy in the world is about to get his head chopped off, and a page later he’s passionately getting it on with his would-be executioner? You better explain that with some serious magic or a huge knock to the head, because I’m not going to buy it otherwise and will be reluctant to even if you do give me a super explanation. Worse, I’m not going to want to read it, because if it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, my mind tends to rebel.
I’ve written an incubus who had to have sex all the time in order to stay healthy. Fun was had by all. I’ve written a shy virgin who only had time to lose said virginity in one on-the-page sex scene before I did awful things to him. Fair enough. In Off The Beaten Path, there are neither incubi or virgins, but there is a worried father desperate to save his little girl and an alpha werewolf with PTSD who has a lot more going on inside than his libido. Frankly, I’m happy I got them off together period, what with all the extra crap I threw their way.
I hope you find the heat level of Off The Beaten Path works for the story. I feel like it does, and if in a revisit someday I have them happy and healthy and fucking like bunnies? Well, more power to them and their well-rounded future selves. For now, there are minefields to navigate. Happy trails.
