~Synopsis~

At twenty-three, Poe Montgomery is going nowhere. He still lives in his father’s basement and spends most of his time tagging with his friends. When an arrest lands him in debt, Poe accepts the front desk job at Permanent Ink, the tattoo shop owned by his father’s best friend, Jericho McAslan. Jericho is nearly twice Poe’s age, but with his ink and prematurely graying hair, he quickly takes the starring role in Poe’s hottest fantasies.
Jericho is known for his ability to transform poorly designed tattoos into works of art, but he was once as aimless and misdirected as Poe. Wanting to pay it forward the way someone once did for him, Jericho makes Poe his apprentice and is determined to keep things strictly professional. Easier said than done when Poe makes his interest—and his daddy kink—abundantly clear.

Jericho can’t resist Poe or their intense chemistry for long. But between the age gap, tension with Poe’s father, and Poe’s best friend calling him a sellout, they’ll need to ensure they’re both on the same page before they can rewrite their rocky start into something permanent.

~Quotes about the book~

After reading Permanent Ink, I wanted to get tattooed and go on a graffiti mural tour, but not before rereading the sex scenes. This writing duo is dynamite, and the chemistry between the characters becomes explosive the further you read. Not to be missed!
-Santino Hassell, RITA nominated author of the Five Boroughs and Cyberlove series

~Quote from the book~

“I couldn’t help it—the more Poe toed the line, the more I was aware of his physical attributes and how goddamn hot he was when he wasn’t running that sulky mouth of his.”

Ladies and gentlemen, we are now crossing a zone of turbulence. Please take your seat and keep your seat belts fastened. Thank you!

Hmm, as a description for this book ‘zone of turbulence’ might be a slight understatement. One helluva ride that gives you barely time to catch your breath is more like it…I knew it would not be easy what the author had in store for not only the reader, but also for Aidan and Jamie in this last installment of the Agents Irish and Whiskey Series. I would not have thought that she has some kind of mean streak when it comes to making everyone suffer, though. 😉

Barrel Proof not only picks up right where Cask Strength ended, it throws us directly head over heels into action and from that point on it leaves us barely time to breathe.

No worries, I try to be as vague as possible about the plot, just let me say that every breathtaking minute and every heart-wrenching moment was more than worth it in the end.

~Synopsis~

I am Axios of Sparta, and I was born to kill. At age seven, I left home to train with other boys where we were taught obedience, solidarity, military strategy, and how to withstand pain. My harsh upbringing stripped me of my weaknesses and forced me to become strong. Ruthless.
But, I craved something greater—a life I could never have.
Against all odds, and the toughest training a warrior could endure, I found an unexpected love in the arms of a fellow Spartan. He was the very air I breathed and the water that sustained me. Fighting side by side with him, we were invincible. Where he went, I followed.
However, there was no place for love in Sparta. Feelings were for the weak. The only life for a Spartan was one of battle and brutality with no guarantee of tomorrow. In times of war, all men were put to the test, but the greatest challenge for us was not one of swords and spears, but of the heart.

I have no words… ”Epic and beautiful” doesn’t even cover it…

I fully intended to write a proper review and a story like this definitely deserves one, but although it’s been almost a day since I finished this book, I just…can’t.

“My warrior. My lover. My heart.”

For me, this was a once-in-a-lifetime reading experience that will stick with me forever and Axios and Eryx will always have a more than a special place in my heart. It was not only one of, but the most heart-wrenching love story I’ve ever read.

I love Avon Gale and Piper Vaughn, so I was very excited to read this one.

It was only later on that I realized that this was a book with “Daddy” kink…Now I love books with age-gaps and I don’t mind a sexy older man…but a 22-year-old wanting to be called “boy” and pleading his “daddy” to pound him harder…yeah that doesn’t really do it for me.

So this is definitely a case of “it’s me and not the book”.

~Synopsis~

At eighteen, Joel Smith’s life fell to pieces. His boyfriend died in a car crash while reading a sext from him, the local newspaper outed them both in the aftermath, and his parents got a divorce. Joel did everything possible to outrun his past: he moved to Oklahoma for college, legally changed his name, and started over.
Since then, he hasn’t let anyone get close—not his classmates, not his roommate, and definitely not his hookups. The strategy has served him well for over three years. Why would he change it now?
But Joel doesn’t plan on the articles about his boyfriend’s death being used as a case study in one of his classes. And he doesn’t plan on Paulie McPherson, who is sweet and giving and fun. In Paulie, he finds a home for the first time in years.
But love isn’t simple, and lies have a tendency to get in the way. Joel must figure out if he’ll allow his grief to rule him, or if his connection with Paulie is worth letting all of his walls come tumbling down.

Well…this book was definitely more angsty and emotional than I expected. This is a book about loss, but also about love…

Joel (21) has been grieving the death of his boyfriend for 3 years now. He doesn’t let anyone close anymore and only has casual hookups. He hasn’t really been living…more like surviving I would say.

~Synopsis~

Professionally, the FBI team of Aidan “Irish” Talley and Jameson “Whiskey” Walker is as good as it gets, closing cases faster than any team at the Bureau. Personally, it’s a different story. Aidan’s feelings for Jamie scare the hell out of him: he won’t risk losing another love no matter how heart-tripping the intimacy between them. And loss is a grim reality with the terrorist Renaud still on their trail, leaving a pile of bodies in his wake.
Going undercover on a new case gets them out of town and off the killer’s radar. They’re assigned to investigate an identity theft ring involving a college basketball team in Jamie’s home state, where Jamie’s past makes him perfect for the role of coach. But returning to the court brings more than old memories.
As secrets and shocking betrayals abound, none may be more dangerous than the one Jamie’s been keeping: a secret about the death of Aidan’s husband that could blow his partner’s world apart and destroy forever the fragile bonds of trust and love building between them.

“Partners, Irish, always.” Lowering their hands, Aidan leaned forward and brushed his lips, sealing the vow.”

“Partners, Whiskey, always.”

For God’s sake, it was about time, guys!!! After a path of trial and tribulation to get to this promise (and not only for Aidan and Jamie, but also for me, dammit!) the ‘always‘ is rather wishful thinking, though, with all the obstacles in their way and secrets still waiting to be revealed and I am pretty sure that the author will send both men and us readers to hell and back in the next book until they get their well-deserved HEA. I have skipped book 1 in this series and went straight to book 2, which I loved by the way. 😉

This is something I do from time to time. Book 1 is still on my “to read” list, but when I found out this book (3) was out…I couldn’t resist jumping right into this one first.

I will still go back and read book 1 though…promise. 😀 Continue reading “~Review~Guys on the Bottom (Guys #3) by Darien Cox~”

Series: Coming Home #2
Publisher: Pocket Books
Page Count: 369 pages

Genre(s): Contemporary Romance

~Synopsis~

In this second of the sultry, Western-set Coming Home series from New York Times bestselling author Harper Sloan, Quinn Davis might finally have a shot at her own happily-ever-after—but will she let love in, or will she tell it to go ahead and kiss her boots?
Quinn Davis prefers to live her life quietly. She’s the stereotypical tomboy with two overprotective big brothers who have always been there to protect her, especially from devilishly handsome cowboys with silver tongues. That is, until Tate Montgomery comes riding into town. Their first meeting, however, is far from something out of a fairy tale and only further convinces Quinn that men aren’t worth her time.
The only place Tate Montgomery ever truly felt at home growing up was during the long, sweltering summer months he spent at his Gram and Paw’s farm in Pine Oak, Texas. Now, Tate has returned to his childhood sanctuary seeking a fresh start—but if he’s being entirely honest, he’s not just back for the wranglers and Stetsons. During those summers, Quinn was a friend-turned-young-love who Tate lost when life threw him a curveball and he cut all ties to his past; but all it takes is one glance at the raven-haired beauty he did his best to forget for him to realize just how much he’s been missing…
