 ~Synopsis~

Lieutenant Apollo Floros can ace tactical training missions, but being a single dad to his twin daughters is more than he can handle. He needs live-in help, and he’s lucky a friend’s younger brother needs a place to stay. He’s surprised to see Dylan all grown up with a college degree…and a college athlete’s body. Apollo’s widowed heart may still be broken, but Dylan has his blood heating up.

It’s been eight years since the teenage Dylan followed Apollo around like a lovesick puppy, and it’s time he showed Lieutenant Hard-to-Please that he’s all man now—an adult who’s fully capable of choosing responsibility over lust. He can handle Apollo’s muscular sex appeal, but Apollo the caring father? Dylan can’t afford to fall for that guy. He’s determined to hold out for someone who’s able to love him back, not someone who only sees him as a kid brother.

Apollo is shocked by the intensity of his attraction to Dylan. Maybe some no-strings summer fun will bring this former SEAL back to life. But the combination of scorching desire and warm affection is more than he’d expected, and the emotion between them scares him senseless. No fling lasts forever, and Apollo will need to decide what’s more important—his past or his future—if he wants to keep Dylan in his life.

At Attention (Out of Uniform #2) by Annabeth Albert

*****4.5 Stars*****

4.5 st 2

Before I even read a blurb for this book, knowing it was going to be Apollo’s story, I’m not gonna lie….I was so excited.  In Off Base, Apollo was such a force of strength and integrity; you couldn’t help but fall in love with him. In all honesty, I’m not always a huge fan of age gap stories, but the idea that he falls for his kids caretaker…

…I was sold.

From Off Base, we knew the basics of Apollo’s story, a former SEAL team commander, he is a widower and a single dad.  When At Attention starts, Apollo is raising his twin five-year-old daughters, and it has been two years since the passing of his husband, Neal.  There is no denying Apollo had been struggling, finding it easy to slip into a spiral of grief and regret, but most of all he is lonely.

Apollo’s mother, who lives in a converted apartment above the garage to help with the girls, is taking a dream vacation and will be gone most of the summer.  Dustin, Apollo’s best friend, has just the solution in his baby brother, Dylan.  Ok, this is where we’re going to have to take a moment…

…and just appreciate all that is Dylan.

Dylan is just about perfect.

He’s just graduated from college, he’s crazy smart, he’s fun, he loves kids, he can find the positive in just about any situation, and he is off the charts HOT.  He is in California to do an internship running a youth summer program; he originally came to spend the summer with his brother who is now being deployed.  Apollo is not crazy about having the kid brother who, he remembers from years ago mooning over him with an obvious crush, spend the summer with him and his girls.  What Apollo doesn’t realize is Dylan is no longer a pimple faced teen, oh no, he is definitely all man now.

“He’d waited eight years for Apollo to see him as more that Dustin’s pesky little brother”

As soon as these two meet, the sparks start to fly.

Puzzle Piece Couples Necklaces, You are my missing piece, Hand Cut Coin

Apollo tries so hard to resist temptation, he wants no part of it, but it proves impossible to deny the attraction between them.  To say the chemistry between these two is off the charts is a huge understatement.  I’ve read several books by this author, and this book is in a league of its own, she was able to capture something special with this couple.

When the sex finally happens, it is explosive.

“Life’s too short to dance around sex or be afraid to talk about it.  I’m not ashamed of loving it.”

“I want to watch you come.”  Apollo turned them so that Dylan was sitting facing the mirrored closet doors. “Fuck you are so hot.”  “So are you.”

“Fuck I love my big ideas.” “I think I do too.”

I’m not kidding here; the sex was so hot…and kinky in the best kind of way.  It was fun, playful, filled with dirty talk…yep…it was…yep, AWESOME!

But, beyond the sex, Apollo had a lot of issues going on.

He is really emotionally closed off and doesn’t want to deal with all the baggage he has left over from Neal’s death.  I am really thankful for the dual POV, without it, Apollo would have come across as such an unfeeling asshole.  His saving grace was his actions didn’t come from a mean or uncaring place; they were a direct result of his pain.  However; I was very frustrated with how unfairly he was treating Dylan with his hot and cold act.  I have a hard time with the whole I want you…I don’t want you routine.  But Dylan was such a strong character, especially for being so young, even with his heart on the line he wasn’t going to be jerked around.  He knew what he wanted, how he deserved to be treated and he took a stand.

All in all this book is fantastic, I love this series and most of all these two men.

They just fit together….hopefully forever!

  I highly recommend this book!

Misfits (Urban Soul #1) by Garrett Leigh

****4 Stars****4-fjf

This was my first book by Garrett Leigh, and she most certainly did not disappoint.

I know she is a writer that has the ability to dig into a character and draw out deep emotions that make them come alive on the page.  I, however, am a complete and total baby with a mushy heart that easily breaks…so I’ve tended to avoid more angsty stories.

I haven’t read a ménage book in years,…

…so I was coming into this one with an open mind not having other books in this genre on my mind.  The problem I have run into with this type of book is I am a true romantic at heart, that being said I am also possessive, competitive and do not share well – especially the love of my life.  Let’s be honest, ménage books are on a slippery slope, it can often be difficult to bring out a real romance and relationship.  So; I was very happily surprised when that was exactly what this book was going for, and I’ll be damned….she was able to do it!!

Tom and Cass have been together for nine years, they live together, own businesses together and are totally committed to each other.  They met when they were very young, and fell fast in love, but were too young to settle down….so they didn’t.  This led them to have an open relationship, they are very honest with each other and share everything.

school work confused real housewives of orange county rhoc

I personally don’t get it, but hey it totally works for them.

They hook up with blokes from time to time and on occasion, even together, but it’s not often they find someone they both like, so that’s rare.

Their businesses were thriving keeping them very busy and often away from each other.

One night while Tom is at dinner Tom researching his next project he meets Jake, they seem to have a connection right from the start.  Flirting leads to spending the night together, but in the morning Jake wakes up to not Tom in the room with him but Cass.  He has no idea about their open arrangement and can’t get out of there fast enough.  He can’t help but think Tom has cheated with him and is none too happy with the situation.

“It’s not cheating, Jake.  We choose to live this way.  It might not make sense to you, but it works for us.”

Jake doesn’t really understand the situation between them, but Tom isn’t ready to give Jake up, and Jake is equally interested in Tom.  Tom is torn between his quickly growing feelings for Jake and how it can fit into his relationship with Cass, he can’t live two separate lives.  Cass seems to be trying to push Jake and Tom together, and Jake is confused by his feeling for both men.

Circumstances arise for Jake, and while Tom is a fixer at heart, wanting to help and save everyone he loves, Cass is the person that ends up being there for Jake. Jake and Cass start to grow a beautiful friendship, but Jake doesn’t feel right getting in between Tom and Cass, he sees they have a very loving relationship.  But he notices that something is going on under the surface. Cass seems to be holding himself back, blocking himself from Tom, and Jake can see and fell the underlying tension.

“I’m not punishing you, Cass.  I just don’t want to be alone, and neither do you, so why are we both so lonely?”

The three become a family of sorts and you can watch the transitions from friend to lover, Cass and Jake build a slow bond that grows of its own accord, nothing was forced.  Tom and Jake, from the start they had feelings fast and strong but were able to grow into something more.  They all needed to work on different aspects of their lives,…

…and truly that was what the majority of this story centered around.

They did all come together, and believe me when I say, it was hot..hot…SO HOT!!!

wow fan oh christina aguilera ooh

This really ended up being a journey of acceptance and understanding not everyone has the same definition of love and family. This relationship with the three of them was what they needed to be happy and complete.Image result for 1+1+1“Tom knew Cass was the love of his life and Jake…Jake had taught them to love each other better.  Jake had taught them how to live.”

They found a way to make it work, different was normal for them.

A Copy of Misfits was provided to DirtyBooksObsession in exchange for an honest review.

Oh my, what a treat this book was to read.

I had this little gem sitting on my kindle for quite awhile, I wish I would have read it sooner.I wasn’t sure what I was going to find when I started this book, it was a situation where I briefly skimmed the summary and purchased the book, but didn’t really know much about the story.  I would like to think I am an open-minded person, I think we are helped along on our path in life by all different kinds of guides, in this story that guide is one’s astrological sign.

Theo Wallace and his twin sister Leone are the Leo’s in this story, who we find recovering from heartbreak at the start of our tale.  It is a sad story, Theo had been in a 2 year relationship with Samantha and Leone and  Derek had been together for 3 years, both of these serious and committed relationships.  Somewhere bit by bit over all the weeknights, weekends, and holidays Theo and Leone had them over, Sam and Derek fell in love with each other.

The twins were blindsided by their confession, even after all of the tearful apologies and declarations that this wasn’t planned, Sam and Derek did not love them anymore.  A year later, Theo felt he had moved on until in the mail came a gold-edged card to save the date.  It would be so much easier if he could just hate them, but this was churning up all the old feelings, he knew he needed to let this go and truly move on.

In that same mailbox came another letter addressed to the two of them, this one a much happier offering from their mother, a new horoscope for the new year.

Sooner or later a Leo will get what they want. It is just a matter of time.:

“It’s a new year, Leo.  Resolve to make big changes in your life and use your pride and stubbornness to see them through.  A new person will enter your life early in the year; look past any moments of frustration they might bring and laugh, Leo-this could be the start of a thriving friendship. …The heart and head may not be in sync in the first half of this year, Leo, and there’s potential to overlook the obvious.  Listen hard to your inner voice and if confused, talk it through with a loved one.  Fear, not rejection and heartbreak, Leo.  Hold your head up high, be your glowing, fiery self, and the right people will gravitate to you; maybe even a soul mate among them. “

Having decided to rent out their third room to help with the finances, after a few unsuccessful interviews with possible tenants, Theo happens across Mr. Jamie Cooper, his T.A. from last year, who Theo is trying to convince to tutor him through a class he is struggling with. Jamie is looking for a new place to rent, Theo of course, finds this to be a perfect opportunity for both of them and will do anything he can to sway Jamie into helping him out.

A fast and strong friendship develops here, it turns out both of these men have some scars on their hearts. They love to antagonize and challenge each other.  I am not known to be the most patient of people and have never been a fan of the slow burn, especially where there are a lot of misunderstandings and unsaid thoughts that could really clear up so much in the story.  (I think this may stem from my personal inability to keep any of my thoughts to myself ;)) That being said, when the relationship is filled with fantastic sarcastic humor and touching heartfelt, emotion, I am completely fine with a slow burn!

~Review~ Leo Loves Aries by Anyta Sunday | ~Dirty Books Obsession~:

Theo is so clueless to what is happening, it is somewhat frustrating but it is almost always comical. Their friendship comes to mean so much to both of them, I think I enjoyed watching their jealousy grow and seeing Theo work out what he was really feeling almost as much as I enjoyed them finally move into the next stages of their relationship.

I love a GFY story, I am a total sucker for one that is done right…but when you throw in some fantastic hot sexy times….oh my, that is my sweet spot!

I highly recommend this book!

I didn’t realize, more likely I had forgotten, this was a spin off when I started it, but quickly remembered Zack from the hospital with Ryan and Pike as being Josiah’s best friend in the last book of the #gaymers series. I absolutely loved Josiah and Ryan, by far my favorite in that series, so it was a treat to see them again.

This book wasn’t as big of a hit for me, while I liked it, it felt like something was being held back and it was just scratching the surface of these characters. I guess that special something that makes me fall in love with a book just wasn’t there.

Pike easily won me over quickly, I loved his honesty, vivid personality and how comfortable he was in his own skin even while he was trying to make the transition into becoming an adult. Which quite honestly was what this book felt like to me, they may have been 23ish but this was a story about moving across that divide between dependent and independent, it had an NA feel.

Zack was a bit trickier because while he had accomplished becoming a Navy SEAL, he was still so unsure of who he was and was lying to everyone, but mostly to himself. I loved watching him get pushed out of his comfort zone but could have done with less of his seemingly endless inner dialogue and no action…super big pet peeve of mine.

I’m easily swayed by first times….from the kissing …

… to the steamy shower scenes,

all the cuddling added up to one thing…

… this couple had great sexual chemistry…and virgin sex is always a treat, especially when it well played out.

The military support in this book was phenomenal, I truly hope everyone who is harassed in uniform finds this level of support. I have no words for the horrible actions of Cobb and Harper, however, I t was awesome watching Cobb crumble when the tables turned, but Harper seemed to skate by. I was so pleased by his military family and brotherhood that surrounded Zack when he finally let them in.

I’m anxiously awaiting Apollo’s story, not only an age gap but an in-house child care provider too…excited about this one!!

Tattoos & Teacups (Tattoos #1) by Anna Martin

Tattoos and Teacups is a very sweet story about the power of opposites attracting and choosing not to settle for the life you have, but deciding to take some risks and hopefully living the life you want.

Robert is a 32yr old English literature professor, (not to be confused with Gerard Butler his much older doppelgänger, even if they are both Scottish heartthrobs) who has settled into the life of a much older man and is completely comfortable in his regimented days. He has accepted the fact that he will never find love if that is in fact, a real thing. He prides himself on his professional life and the accomplishments he’s earned, even if he may be lonely.

Chris is a beautifully alive 23yr old percussionist, not simply a drummer, who is confident and self-assured. Chris finds himself in Boston, on a short month or two breaks from a cross-country van tour with his band, recharging before continuing on out West.

They have a chance meeting in one of Robert’s favorite pubs, where he has had a few too many pints and his Scottish accent has gotten noticeably thicker…Chris can’t help but mistake him for the dreaded Butler. Robert doubts he has anything to offer the gorgeous younger man, can’t possibly believe he would ever be interested in the older professor, but Robert decides to take a chance and uses the number Chris left for him.
My good friend J said it best, it was like being a fly on the wall watching this couple fall in love…and as unlikely a pair as they were…fall they did.

It was a bit quick, but sometimes love happens quickly, it felt genuine. The real story here was what happens next. Life comes calling and tough choices have to be made. Sometimes when you love someone you have to put yourself aside, then figure out what comes next for you.
I was surprised more than once whilst reading this, which is always a treat.
This couple shows real vulnerability coupled with all the hot and steamy sex, you get the full view of who they are.
All in all a good, low angst enjoyable read.

This book was ABSOLUTELY brilliant. It was a short afternoon read. I always go into a book like this, not expecting too much but I was blown away today. Everything about this book was just right!

It was a touching story, it was funny, it was low on the angst and unnecessary drama and was stock full of hot and I do mean hot, steamy sexy times. I felt drawn in by both of these very likable MC’s and I believed in their connection. I am a fan of this author and have read several of her other books, but I’ve got to say I think this was my favorite of hers.
