~Synopsis~

I am Axios of Sparta, and I was born to kill. At age seven, I left home to train with other boys where we were taught obedience, solidarity, military strategy, and how to withstand pain. My harsh upbringing stripped me of my weaknesses and forced me to become strong. Ruthless.
But, I craved something greater—a life I could never have.
Against all odds, and the toughest training a warrior could endure, I found an unexpected love in the arms of a fellow Spartan. He was the very air I breathed and the water that sustained me. Fighting side by side with him, we were invincible. Where he went, I followed.
However, there was no place for love in Sparta. Feelings were for the weak. The only life for a Spartan was one of battle and brutality with no guarantee of tomorrow. In times of war, all men were put to the test, but the greatest challenge for us was not one of swords and spears, but of the heart.

I have no words… ”Epic and beautiful” doesn’t even cover it…

I fully intended to write a proper review and a story like this definitely deserves one, but although it’s been almost a day since I finished this book, I just…can’t.

“My warrior. My lover. My heart.”

For me, this was a once-in-a-lifetime reading experience that will stick with me forever and Axios and Eryx will always have a more than a special place in my heart. It was not only one of, but the most heart-wrenching love story I’ve ever read.

Igneous.

When Cooper’s parents divorce, he finds himself landed in Week About—one week with his mum and one week with his dad.
Only, it’s not just his dad he has to live with. There’s Lila, too: The other woman, the one who stole the rock-solid foundation of his life.
And then …
There’s Jace. Lila’s son. Lila’s smug, regurgitated-fish-scale-blue eyed son.
All Cooper wants is to have his family back the way it once was, but there’s something about this boy that promises things will never be the same again.

Sedimentary.

Resisting the realities of his new life, Cooper and Jace get off to a rocky start. But rocky start or not, after hundreds of shared memories together, they forge something new. A close … friendship.
Because friendship is all they can have. Although it’s not like they are real brothers…

Metamorphic.

But how does that friendship evolve under the pressures of life?
Under pressures of the heart?

This is a frustrating, forbidden, sad and beautiful love story.

This is the story of how I became a rock“… oh, yes it is…(sighing loudly).

To me, what I’ve read is so powerful that I’m still hangover while writing this review. I’ve laughed, cried, and prayed for the book to be endless. I also prayed for the exact opposite, begging for the couple to have their HEA and stop messing with my feelings…

This is a beautiful story that describes us the awakening of an epic love. This is a magnificent book that tells us about the start of a heartfelt and heartbreaking relationship between two men who met being kids and went through life with their paths tangled, entwined and intimately connected as “brothers”, friends and lovers.

I want this to be a total spoiler-free review, so I’m gonna ramble and gabble about my thoughts and my perception of this exquisite love story. So you are safe, nothing is gonna be revealed.

Cooper and Jace meet when both of them are teenagers.

They find each other in a tough moment in Cooper’s life and started bonding and sharing a life. It’s magnificent how you can be a part of it, feel all of it, being there with the weight of the unsaid words, witness the secret and longing glances, and understand the beginning of a camaraderie bigger than anything.

This book is not exactly one of unrequited love but, at the same time, it is, since we could say that´s the main reason (along with the prohibit love) for our MCs being apart for such a long time. It’s angsty for a softie like me who cries every time our hero’s heart is ripped off his chest, or even if it’s not but he is having a really bad day, he is jealous or simply sad. Yup. That soft. So, did I cry reading Rock? Yes, I did. Did I enjoy while crying? Hell, yes, like crazy. Would I reread again this magnificent and powerful story? Of course, I would, and I would cry too.

Anyta Sunday plays beautifully with the chapter’s titles.

All of them has a rock name in it, don’t let you forget, not for a second, that you are reading about Cooper’s experiences, feelings, and states of mind. We have our narrator’s sweet POV and the rock names to remind you the significance, the meaning of the stones, that they are related to what we are going to read. I also loved the way the book is structured. Different parts named according to the relationship development and also geologically connected to the plot… beautiful.

So you could say Anyta Sunday touches me. Her writing and her characters.

The dialogues flow so easily and the feelings go so deep in me, that I felt drowned in the beautiful drama, the magistral narration and the sadness of this unforgettable love story.

I wanted to make a special mention to Lila and David (Cooper’s dad) because theirs is a love story plagued of sad and painful moments. This secondary mini plot is also heart wrecking because this is a couple who has been in love all their lives, not being together for the most part of it…and once they are happiness seems to escape them anyway… I can’t imagine what it feels like to be incapable of sharing your life with the person you love (I’m a lucky girl) but it has to be hard, very very hard.

Anyta Sunday gave me 10 years of love and heartbreak, 10 years of Cooper and Jace’s lives full of great conversations, tears and a palpable evolution (we go from a YA lovely novel to a splendid drama with more experienced men).

And all of it packed in a magistral narration, sprinkled with a few references I loved…

Such as a Flight of the Conchords T-Shirt (it’s New Zealand, after all) or Cat Stevens’s “first cut is the deepest”, song, that drove to another place and another time.

Because as I said, I’m a softie, and proud of it! 😀

~Synopsis~

SSA Rain Christiansen used to be the agency’s golden boy. It just takes one moment of weakness, one slight, tiny, itty-bitty paranormal sighting, and all of a sudden he’s the agency’s embarrassment. His boss gives him one last chance to redeem himself—go down to Brickell Bay, play nice with the local police, and leave the ghost sightings behind. Rain is determined to do exactly that, even if it kills him.
Cold-case detective Daniel McKenna’s latest investigation is going nowhere fast. Five years earlier, high school student Amy Greene went missing after leaving her part-time job and was never seen again. Daniel is glad to finally have the FBI help that his department requested, even if it does come in the form of his ex.

It doesn’t help that Rain is pretty sure he’s falling in love with Danny all over again—if he ever stopped. Add to that the frustration of seeing ghosts at every turn while he works a case that’s stalled in its tracks, and Rain is starting to wonder if second chances and happy endings are just for fairy tales.

I love paranormal and I love mystery. So this book was perfect for me.

It pulled me in right from the very first page. I really liked the mystery part, it had me on the edge of my seat while biting my nails…

17734331.gif (300×226)

To me, this was a mystery/paranormal first and a romance second. Now no worries, there is romance and there is even some very nice steam, but the main focus of the book is…ghosts. 😛

Rain is an FBI profiler with the BAU. He is a pretty straight-laced kinda guy, which is quite the feat if you look at his hippy parents and twin sister. There are only two things not so straight about him.

His sexuality and the fact that he sees and talks to ghosts.

6356555205781965911827512256_ghost.gif (245×172)

He himself isn’t so happy about the whole ghost thing. It’s hindering his job and when his gift becomes public knowledge, he is sent on leave for a month, with mandatory visits to a psychiatrist.

tumblr_ni83o5D5us1u0mxhao1_500.gif (490×276)

When he gets back from his leave, he is send to help out the local PD on a cold case in his hometown…as a form of punishment. A town where his sexy ex-boyfriend is a detective and Rain has never really gotten over his ex.

An ex he will now have to work with and who doesn’t know his secret.

I really liked detective Danny McKenna and I also understood that he still felt the hurt of Rain leaving him. He never got over Rain either, but he is also afraid of being left behind again.

Even though these two are ex’s, they are also still friends. Awkward friends who would like to jump each other’s bones…but friends none the less. So when Danny offers Rain a place to stay, he doesn’t have to think about it.

It’s either his hot ex or his hippy sister. 😛

spncastieldontaskstupidquestions_zps215f6cd3.gif (245×180)

While working the cold case, Rain is being joined by his “stalker” ghost, who tries to help him out in exchange for Rain doing him a favor. Slowly Rain starts accepting the fact that he is not crazy and that there is a reason for him being able to see all these ghosts.

He actually starts wanting to help them….

help-me-help-you_zpsl5asrqvb.gif (800×460)

Problem is, what will happen when everyone, including Danny, finds out his secret…

I really loved this one. I was filled with mystery and ghosts.

The MC’s were great and funny. I loved the banter between the two of them and even though there are only a few steamy scenes, they were definitely HOT !!!

Boys Kissing Boys:

I would have liked an epilogue though…. It always gives me a bit more closure, but don’t worry they it ends with a HEA. I would love for this to turn out into a series, cause I would read every single book.

Highly recommended for those who love paranormal and mystery/suspense!!!

A clash of wills between predators…

He’s been living underground for a long time, but the only thing guaranteed to bring Daniel Nieto back to the surface is the identity of his wife’s killer. With the whisper of one name, he puts it all on the line for vengeance. He’s got plans for Stavros Konstantinou.

The title of monster fits too well for Stavros to want to be anything other than what he is. Time spent in Daniel Nieto’s dungeon, chained and tortured, will never change that. Starved of food, sunlight, and freedom, he waits for an opening to turn the tables on the only man who’s ever come close enough to scare him.

Somewhere between the slide of knife against skin, and the drip of blood on cold concrete, things change. Grief and hatred collide with lust and obsession, and this time Daniel and Stavros are on the same side. This time, they’re fighting a losing battle against a connection forged by much more than a love of violence and bloodshed.
In a war this bloodied, what do you do when the bodies start hitting the floor?

This book is Captivating, Dark, Violent, Intense!

Enemies to lovers, the feelings these two men had for each other took my breath away. This book took me completely by surprise and once I got into it, I couldn’t put it down.

“Something happened when they got in the same room. When their eyes met. When they breathed the same air. A dangerously potent something.”

Daniel Nieto has been waiting and waiting to avenge the death of his wife and when the time is right he’s determined to make Stavros Konstantinou suffer.

So many things that I loved about this book…

-A clash of wills, an attraction so powerful that both men were powerless to resist…

“Your touch kills me,” Daniel confessed through the thickness in his throat. “It’s the sweetest murder, and I want it again and again.”

The Mafia plot was concise and didn’t overpower the story.

Daniel’s feelings about his dead wife were extremely well portrayed as he battled with guilt over his attraction to Stavros.

“They were connected, he and Stavros. Connected by blood, by death. By guilt and betrayal too. But also by this crazy unexplainable and emotional need they had to be near each other. Touch each other. Taste each other.”

The Sex scenes…these two are passionate, intense, dirty, and loving…these are definitely some of the best sex scenes I’ve read.

You’ll fall in love with Daniel and Stavros, I’m sure.

Highly Recommended!imageedit_27_3195715136

I buried my twin sister six months after she found out she had cancer. Her funeral was three months ago. Today is our birthday and it started with delivery of letters from her.

It seems she didn’t trust me to move on after her death. She knows me too well. But how can I go on when my other half is just…gone? That’s not something I can recover from with a snap of my fingers. But I also can’t ignore her instructions even though I’d be perfectly content to cuddle up with my buddy, Johnnie Walker, and call it a year.

She has a list of things for me to do and there are rules attached.

There’s one major problem besides the fact it’s been three months since I left the house. I have to do all these things with her jerk of an ex, Hawk Simmons. He abandoned her shortly after she found out she was sick. If that wasn’t enough to make this a really bad idea, the fact that he makes an appearance in all my nighttime fantasies probably does.

I don’t think I can do this, but I owe it to my sister’s memory to try.

One of the best books I’ve read this year!

I loved it! I loved every single page of it! so I rounded up my 4.5 stars, to 5.

In his 25th birthday, Ethan Roberts (drunk and hurting) receives a letter from Emma, her recently dead twin sister, with a list of things he must do, assignments to accomplish with the help of Hawk Simmons, her ex and the hot, sexy man Ethan hates more than anyone in the world.

Ethan is mourning his sister death and, on the first page, we can read the really sad motto he wants to follow in that right moment:

“Sleep, that beautiful place where pain didn’t exist. Where memories didn’t exist. His goal in life now is to spend as much time in that space as possible”

And even if it sounds depressing as hell, it’s not. This whole story is far from it.This is not a story of death. This is not a book about cancer and loss. This is the complete opposite. This is a love story. A story of life. A perfectly well-written book, about how people can connect in life and be happy getting over the bad things, getting past the sad parts anyone, unfortunately, have to experience. A story of people who deserves happiness.

And after that super long introduction, if you are still with me 😉 let’s start with our MCs. And here, I don’t want to say too much because this is a book you have to read and, discover by yourself, who Ethan and Hawk really are.

Ethan is a graphic designer whose twin has died four months ago and he doesn’t seem to find his way out the hole he is in. And he doesn’t want to, either. So when the help comes from Hawk, the sexy motorcycle designer who broke his twin’s heart before she died, things gets complicated.

Ethan is hot, hot, hot (three times because I’m gonna give Hawk a fourth hot, a bit more, just a little bit). He is sweet, shy and he doesn´t know how to handle his life without Emma.

Hawk, on his behalf, is dealing with his own problems and loss. He is much more than Ethan thinks, much more than you reader could imagine in the first moment. He has a hard life to live too. It’s not just Ethan who is mourning someone. Hawk has issues tormenting him, unresolved things hunting him.

As I said Hawk is hot, hot, hot, hot (there is four, right?) and both characters together are incredible, sexy, funny and the attraction between them is a constant turn on.
This is a couple you want to meet and know. They are full of surprises and I really love them both.

Emma deserves a special mention here because she brought perfection to this story. She is the one who makes everything possible. She is dead, yes, and it´s very, very sad because she was young and full of life but, you are going to smile thinking about her and her fixing from the grave. This caring and beloved person, makes you believe in the wish.

This is a beautiful story you must read, nothing more and nothing else.

Dr. Mikhail “Misha” Budnikov takes one look at fellow fencer Ryan O’Connor and instantly knows his type. The undisciplined hothead is all ego with no finesse and even less control. In short, Misha’s pet peeves personified. To put the arrogant kid in check, Misha challenges him to a sparring match, which he predictably wins.
Not so predictably, Ryan asks him to be a mentor and show him how to fence. Startled by the moment of humility, Misha agrees.

What begins as fencing lessons becomes something much hotter, and before they know it, Misha is giving Ryan an entirely different kind of education. Dominance, submission, pain, pleasure—at the hands of an older, experienced man, a whole new world is opening up for Ryan.

As the trust deepens and their bond strengthens, though, Ryan retreats because that sham called love left him jaded long ago. Cynical beyond his years, he’s not letting his guard down, least of all for a thrice-divorced man twice his age.
Now Misha has to find a way to crack through those defenses…or accept defeat and walk away from the submissive who might just be the love of his life.

I am not a big BDSM reader and I don’t know anything about fencing, not did I care much for it, so this book was a big gamble on my part. Good thing I like to gamble. 😉

simpson-giphy2.gif (480×366)

Ryan (26) and Misha (45) are both fencers, and they meet at a fence-club. Ryan has been fencing for about 5 years and he is not being a very good sportsman. Misha, who is a master fencer with lot’s of experience, decides to challenge the younger man and put him in his place…

Which is exactly what he does.

tumblr_n4pd3sXjwk1s24qdco1_500.gif (500×255)

What he didn’t expect, however, was that after being defeated, Ryan would ask him to teach him how to fence properly.

How can he say no to such eagerness?

Misha isn’t just a great fencer though. He is also a college professor and Dom and a romantic, even after 3 divorces (two with women and one with a man).

Move+On+Quotes+(Inspirational+Quotes)+0001-0003+(7).jpg (550×700):

Ryan is a college student and an artist…no, e is not Misha’s student. He comes from a horrible family and he is much more jaded.

My heart broke for Ryan more than once…

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor my heart hurts + gif

Slowly Misha teaches Ryan everything he knows about fencing. But the lessons don’t end there though…Misha also introduces him to the world of BDSM.  The chemistry between these two is off the charts. It was a nice slow burn though not too slow, with plenty of sexual tension and extremely HOT sex scenes.

“You’re a submissive waiting to happen, aren’t you?”

I really enjoyed seeing their relationship develop from just being sexual…into much more. I loved how Misha saw Ryan’s need to submit. BDSM isn’t really my thing, but this story was very nicely done. I think part of my enjoyment has to do with the fact, that they really talk things through. Which is why the conflict near the end was a bit surprising to me.

No worries though…all ends well. 😀

This book does have a (sex)scene with multiple partners…for those who would like to know this, before going in.imageedit_29_8155881553

Make a wish, Ethan.Believe in it.It’s time to live.imageedit_44_8150275859

From the blurb, I thought this might be a quite depressing, heavy story but it wasn’t.Yes, it deals with Cancer and Death but the writing is clever, in that it’s actually quite uplifting as the reader goes on Ethan’s journey and how he deals with his loss.

Ethan and Emma are twins. They live and work together and were extremely close except when it came to men.

The story opens with Ethan…

…Struggling in every aspect of his life after the death of his twin sister, Emma. His only comfort is alcohol, as he desperately tries to numb his pain.A surprise visit from an Attorney, Katya, is about to change his life forever.

Emma left instructions that in order for Ethan to own their shared business and house he must complete 25 tasks. The only problem is that it means coming face to face and spending time with Hawk…

Emma’s ex. Ethan hates Hawk…

…After all, he walked away from Emma when she was diagnosed. The instructions are delivered to both men in a series of letters.Hawk’s story with Emma is not explained at first but is slowly revealed as the book progresses.

I don’t want to say too much about the actual story but let’s just say that Ethan and Hawk have a strong attraction to each other…and it’s quite delicious.Hawk has the whole bad boy image going on and Ethan appears to be quite geeky and reserved…

“Hawk Simmons stood there. Part wary. Part defensive. Part disgruntled. All gorgeous. Like a dog smelling a steak, his dick perked up at the sight of Hawk. Fucking hell. Hawk had some sort of Latin heritage in his background that gave him a sultry, swarthy appearance. With his chiseled jaw, highlighted by dark scruff, he gave new meaning to the phrase tall, dark, and handsome. (…)”

I think what made this book special was Emma. She only plays a part here in her letters and drawings but her presence was so important to the story.I absolutely loved that girl.

The last part of the book was very emotional and I definitely shed a few tears.

Don’t worry, they were happy tears in the end.

A recommended read!imageedit_44_8150275859

Through Ryan’s trials, there are three different perspectives: a best friend watching from the outside, a lover desperate to get in, and his own mind.
His struggles were theirs. He just didn’t know it.
A tragic accident changed Dr. Ryan Jacobs’ life and freed him from a past he thought he’d never escape, but with that freedom came the realization: he could escape the man, but would be bound to the torturous battle within his mind. Fighting for control of his thoughts, he lived recklessly in a life of addiction and the next good time. Wearing a mask of deception, and hiding it beautifully behind his playboy ways, he fooled himself into thinking this was the real him, but he couldn’t fool everyone.
Dr. Michael Jonas considered Ryan more than just a friend, he was his family. With the support of his wife, Michael held Ryan’s hand, listened to him cry, and helped him through the hardest events of his life. He could see through the fake smiles and playboy attitude, seeing his best friend for the man he really was. After Michael’s wife had given birth to their first child, Michael vowed never to let pain affect his family again, Ryan included. But Michael carried his own burdens and watching Ryan struggle was harder than he thought. It tore him apart, silently, until there was only one choice. Save his best friend before it was too late.
As a high-powered attorney, Jayson Alexander thrived on easy thrills both in his professional and personal life, but when his heart broke the rules, he had no choice but to break it and run from the pain. Obsessive about controlling his own life, he set goals and rules and tried to ensure his own happiness, but life had a different plan. So he sought out answers and took on a case that would eventually change everything. He was drawn to Ryan from the moment he laid eyes on him. With a magnetic connection he couldn’t deny, he found Ryan irresistible, but he found out quickly the connection was more than physical. Where to start with this review?

Story wise, it’s going to be vague-I don’t really want to give anything away.I was definitely apprehensive about reading this but I’m all for diversity in books and I’m finding more and more that books that take me out of my comfort zone, actually work for me.

This book won’t be for everyone but I would say…give it a chance…

It deals with mental, physical, and emotional abuse, but it’s also a story of friendship, love, and hopehope, that anyone who has suffered from any form of abuse can eventually find happiness.

Before and after the story there are personal, real-life stories of men who have suffered from abuse and I found their stories incredibly moving.

“I played roulette with my body, keeping my mind pacified and my heart safe.”

While it’s Ryan who was abused here, it’s not just his story. It’s about three men and their connections to each other.

Michael is Ryan’s friend but he’s so much more than that. He’s an ever present, positive force in Ryan’s life.In my view, he plays a massive part in the man Ryan ends up to be.

Jayson, an attorney, plays an integral part in the story…he never gives up on Ryan.

I’ve got two close friends who suffered from mental and physical abuse…not to the extent Ryan did, and thankfully they walked away and found happiness. My point in mentioning this is that I thought the Author has perfectly portrayed what victims of abuse go through.

The feelings of no self-worth.
The shame…
Being trapped in a relationship they are unable to walk away from because they feel so defeated.

Ryan’s story is heartbreaking but it felt real.As a reader, you go on a journey with him.The anonymous sex, the use of prescription drugs are all coping mechanisms…

Until he finally finds happiness.

~Blurb~

Mob enforcer Ceaton Mercer has killed a lot of people in a lot of different ways – he stashed the last two bodies in a toolshed belonging to a sweetheart marine researcher in an idyllic island community – but he’s really not such a bad guy. Over time he’s found a home of sorts, and he even learns he’s found a place in the hearts of the people he works with…at least enough so that they won’t put a bullet in his head because he’s outlived his usefulness to the boss.

But he never thought he’d find one day could change his life, and he’s about to discover how wrong he is.
Because in a single day, he meets the man who looks to be the one, the love of his life. It’s an improbable idea – a man who deals in death finding love – but it’s like it’s meant to be. That single day gets weirder and troubles pile up, forcing Ceaton to take a hard look at his dreary life and accept that one day can change everything, especially himself. His future might be brighter than he expects – if he can stay alive long enough to find out.

Mary, Mary Mary, how I love thee, let me count the ways…

how-do-i-love-thee-o.gif (320×192)

So we have another winner !!! I loved this book…it’s just as awesome as I expected it to be.

It had all the required ingredients…

  • Did it have a hot guy everyone wanted to be friends with   Teek, Mark, Corrigeren, Keuze, Registreer, Ja, Icon:
  • Did it have some ridiculous over the top scenes Teek, Mark, Corrigeren, Keuze, Registreer, Ja, Icon:
  • Did it have insta-love/lust Teek, Mark, Corrigeren, Keuze, Registreer, Ja, Icon:

…all that and so much more….

This book starts off with the story of Ceaton Mercer, ex-marine, and how he became a mob enforcer. I loved Ceaton from the very start.

What I loved most about this book, was the comradery. Pravi, Marko, and Luka…these boys were all great in their own way…

…but together, they were just awesome!!

Then the day comes that changes everything…when Ceaton sets his sight on Brin…or maybe it was more the other way around. 😀

“There was a pushpin in my mind map of where I thought I was, but you moved it, you changed it, and now my orbit is different because of you.”

This book is a slow burn…though the insta-love/lust is still there.

It is not heavy on the steam, but since, the second half of this book takes place in one day…that makes sense.

I was also extremely happy with the little surprise we got near the ending ! I love it when authors do that and I have high hopes that this book will turn into a series.

The only thing that upsets me a little, was that it was so short.

I need more…I always need more Mary, so of course, I am off to re-read some old favorites (all of them). 😀 😛
