Six years ago Ellis walked into his first briefing as the newest member of London’s Specialist Firearms unit. He was partnered with Wayne and they became fast friends. When Wayne begins to notice changes—Ellis’s erratic temper, the effects of sleep deprivation—he knows he has to act before Ellis reaches his breaking point. He invites Ellis to the opening of the new BDSM club, Secrets, where Wayne has a membership. His purpose? He wants Ellis to glimpse the lifestyle before Wayne approaches him with a proposition. He wants to take Ellis in hand, to control his life because he wants his friend back, and he figures this is the only way to do it.

There are a few issues, however. Ellis is straight. Stubborn. And sexy. Wayne knows he has to put his own feelings aside to be what Ellis needs. What surprises the hell out of him is finding out what Ellis actually requires.

This book is a spin-off of the Collars & Cuffs series, which I am ashamed to say…I have not read yet …hangs head in shame.

Shame GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

The reason for this is that I am just not a real big fan of BDSM. Not that I mind it, it’s just that it has to be written a certain way, for me to really enjoy it.Wayne and Ellis are friends and partners on the job (London’s Specialist Firearms unit).

Wayne is gay…and also a Dom. Ellis has only been with women.

Lately, Ellis hasn’t been doing so well, due to several circumstant stances (read a very messed up family) and he seems to be on the verge of some kind of breakdown. Wayne, who secretly has a thing for his friend, is very worried, but he thinks he has a solution for Ellis’ state of mind.

He takes Ellis to a BDSM club. He thinks if Ellis would just submit, he could let go of everything else and free his mind.

Now I had to suspend my disbelief a little right here because I would think, that when you are on a downward spiral and you are about to fall apart…maybe talking to a therapist or something would be better, but then again…I don’t know shit about BDSM.

Also, this is a book and not real life…so…

DeRZw_s-200x150.gif (200×150)

As it turns out, Ellis is indeed a sub, but accepting this fact…now that’s a much different story. Ellis has always been raised a certain way. The man is supposed to be the strong one…the one taking care of everything, and submitting…won’t that make him weak?

don_t_show_weakness__don_t_get_burned__by_tangledtabby876-d6eluuw.gif (720×720)

Also, he is supposed to be straight….right?

To say that Ellis’ family was messed up is putting it very lightly. His parents especially were horrible.

Now the question is…will Ellis submit to Wayne, and will Wayne finally be able to show his friend how much he really cares for him.

f994238d73d7c52748d767d8f7acc3cb.jpg (480×444):

I enjoyed reading this book, but…I had a bit of a hard time with how Ellis was introduced into the world of BDSM. It just felt a bit forced to me. Wayne just came in and took over everything and that’s probably what a Dom is supposed to do, but it made me a bit uncomfortable. I also had a hard time with Ellis just taking all the crap his family fed him all those years.

Still…I could see these men cared a lot about each other and I think BDSM fans will love this one.imageedit_44_8150275859

Truth and lies.
Captain Jamie Callahan knows the Metahuman Defense Force frowns on fraternization. For once in his life, he’s breaking all the rules. Having Staff Sergeant Kyle Brannigan on his team and in his bed is worth the risk of being found out. When a mission comes down requiring Alpha Team to go undercover in order to infiltrate a criminal alliance, Jamie knows it won’t be easy. Putting his family’s name on the line is nothing compared to the role the MDF wants him to play—that of a billionaire’s son, discharged from the military, with a lover on his arm, looking to make his own shady business deals.
Dirty little secret.
Kyle knows the only way to be with Jamie is to hide their relationship from their superiors. Waking up to Jamie at home is more important than being together in public, or so Kyle thought, until he comes face to face with what he’s been missing. Pretending to be a couple on paper for the sake of the mission thrusts Kyle into a world of incredible wealth and a social status he’s not sure he belongs in, but he’ll do anything to stay by Jamie’s side.
Play the game to win.
Surrounded by the enemy, Jamie and Kyle need to trust each other now more than ever. Their covers—and the life they’re trying to build together—depend on it.

In the Ruins is a 105k word steamy gay sci-fi military romance with a HFN ending that skirts HEA. There is military violence within the story that may not be suitable for everyone, as well as explicit intimate scenes not suitable for readers under the age of 18. This is a sequel to In the Wreckage and reading the first book in the series would be helpful in enjoying this one.

After reading book 1 not too long ago, I could not wait to jump into this one.

This series marks my first time,  into the world of Sci-fi, and even though I have seen some awesome sci-fi movies in my life…reading this genre somehow never happened. Thank you, Hailey Turner, for opening my eyes to a whole new (book) world. 😛

Cd7ovXd.gif (400×240)

First off, these books should not be read as standalone, this is a series and if you want to read book 2, you will have to start with book 1 “In the Wreckage”…

Which was also awesome!!

tumblr_lkdxkvZqdK1qb0wfxo1_1280.jpg (567×340):

Those of you who have read book 1, already know all about Metahumans, what they are and how they came to be. For those of you who haven’t…I will quote my own review of book 1….

“Metahumans are humans, that have been exposed to Splice, a certain chemical that is supposed to kill everyone who comes in contact with it. Somehow, certain people are able to survive this chemical, instead of getting killed, they turn into some sort of superhuman with super powers.”

Like I said in my review of book 1, it’s like a cross between “Thirds” and “X-Men”. 😀

Jamie and Kyle got together in book 1 and so far, 6 months later, they are still going strong.

348e4efa63e28d9fc85487aee219904b.jpg (236×354):    47ca64eefe11eb2c63c887015944b4e8.jpg (236×330):

The only problem they have, as far as their relationship goes, is that Jamie is Kyle’s superior and therefore, the two of them are breaking the Metahuman Defense Force fraternization rule. Neither of them is ready to give up their job, so keeping things a secret is the only way to go.

“I don’t regret a single decision I’ve made when it comes to you. Maybe it’s not the right decision from a command point of view, but I’m not willing to give you up”

e45043f2cadff4b163b2c99827bf7fbf.jpg (500×420):

When the team goes on a new mission, and Jamie and Kyle have to “pretend” to be a couple, both men come to realize what they are missing…Kyle also comes face with the fact that he and Jamie are from very different worlds, which causes some self-doubt on his part.Their feelings for each other, get stronger every day…

How much longer will they be able to keep going on like this?

tumblr_lpoo4tfP7y1qeyu8fo1_500.gif (500×212)

I am not going into the plot more than this. I want everyone to enjoy this book without any major spoilers. I will say though, for those who are wondering, that these boys are still very very HOT together…and a bit kinky…

“Some days I can’t get enough of how much you like getting fucked.”

tumblr_nxubp3zx8m1te42yzo1_500.gif (500×255)

As much as I loved Jamie and Kyle, this book isn’t just about the two of them. It’s about their whole team….and what an awesome team this is. They are like a family.  There is also an introduction to an MDF member we haven’t met before and I have high hopes, that he will be a part of this little family in the future. I also would really like to have a story about Alexei, because he has been one of my favorites since book 1.

Fingers crossed. 😛

JS_FingersCrossed.gif (256×256)

This book ends on a HFN, so I am pretty sure, there will be more about Jamie and Kyle in the near future.

Hopefully, the wait won’t be too long. 😀imageedit_44_8150275859

Entertainment at its best!!!

Alpha Team was the bullet, even if someone else was pulling the trigger, and they couldn’t ever escape that.

https://i2.wp.com/25.media.tumblr.com/5ff23d2df3f0092303c57e8bc75e8c04/tumblr_mpoutkajnM1qlym8ko1_500.gif

Jamie Callahan’s team of Metahumans with enhanced abilities – well, it spoils nothing to say that they have certain superpowers – has to keep that in mind when their new mission sends them undercover right in the public eye, so as to nose out a Russian terrorist group intent on preying on wealthy citizens with shady morals. Especially Jamie has to play both sides of the fence and gambles for high stakes since it is not only his reputation on the line but also the one of those who is close to him. He is forced to walk a tightrope and has to rely on his team, other organizations and friends more than once to wriggle out of precarious situations in order not to compromise his family and still get the job done.

The only thing that helps him stay in control is the fact that Kyle Brannigan, his secret lover, is also part of the cover and for once they don’t have to hide their relationship in public, if only for show. When more players enter the game, there is more at stake than just his high renown and the whole team has to refer to all their resources and powers to hold the upper hand.

Wow, just wow! Hailey Turner did it again!!!

After only the second installment to In the Wreckage, this series went straight onto my top-ten list of favorites and she proved to me that the first book was not just some kind of one-hit wonder. Not that I ever had any doubts about it, but still I’m glad to see that I was right.

This book and the whole series is so right up my alley and I don’t even know where to start to explain why, so let’s just say that the world building is so unique and well-conceived that I once again got totally engrossed in the story right from the beginning. On the one hand, I could not put my Kindle down and on the other hand, I had to read slowly in order not to miss anything important because of the complex storyline, right down to the last detail.

Another aspect that made me enjoy this book so much is the dynamics between each and every team member.

No, scratch that, they are not only a team, they are family. The snark and banter made me laugh out loud, but when it comes down to it they stand up for each other no matter what and everyone has a role to play. An important role. In this story the team got a new addition in form of former CIA Agent Sean Delaney and boy, do I want to see more of him in the future!!! I daresay that he and a certain moody Russian team member – yes. Alexei, it is you I’m talking about – might become more than just colleagues, all animosity aside, and for me, some kind of enemies to lovers trope would spice up the story even more.

What I loved the most, though, was the development of Jamie and Kyle’s love for each other. Their feelings are getting stronger and stronger by the minute and even if their mission reveals more and more the difference in their social background and raises some kind of self-doubt and misgivings about the continuation of their relationship, Jamie is determined to make it happen against all odds – against the non-fraternization policy of the organization they both are working for and against the outbreak of hostilities from the part of his family – and he always finds the right words to alleviate Kyle’s qualms.

https://images.gr-assets.com/hostedimages/1453430454ra/17826297.gif

“I love you and I will always fight for you,” Jamie told him, meaning it more than he’d ever meant anything in his life.

When I started to read the book I was prepared for all eventualities, meaning I stocked up on chocolate and coffee, committed my cat to cuddle duties (of course, he was over the hills and far away when I needed him) and had my notepad with the names and functions of all team members I wrote down while reading the first book at the ready, but I completely forgot about one thing: to retrieve the fan out of the basement. I should have known better! Damn, those sex scenes…

The terms “hot and kinky” do not come anywhere close to describe them.

This is everything

The ending felt more like a HFN for Jamie and Kyle, but thank goodness, the next book is already in the works. I would love nothing better than to beg the author to hurry up because I so cannot wait to get back to this universe and see where the story goes from here since the case is equally anything but solved.

Highly recommended!imageedit_44_8150275859

In the Ruins (Metahuman Files #2) by Hailey Turner

*****5 Stars*****imageedit_104_7293237175

imageedit_44_8150275859

Hailey Turner has done a terrific job creating this universe and with “In the Ruins“, the second installment of the  Metahumans Files, she achieves something incredible: maintain the reader interested in her amazing world. Well, not really. We are not talking here about just keep the interest of the reader. Probably the terrific plot and the characters development make book 2 better than “In the Wreckage“. This is another gem and a very shiny one, I must say.

In the Ruins starts a few moths after the last scene in book one, and directly into action.

Our heroes have been together nearly seven months and still hiding their relationship. In this book, we have the chance to witness how their physical connexion develops in something bigger, sweeter, deeper.

And the intimacy between them?

The plot in this second book is an undercover mission, using our incredible and wealthy guy… oh, please, Wait… this description sucks, I should say Jaime is incredible, wealthy, loyal, unselfish, bossy in bed, awesome as the team leader and absolutely generous with their friends.

He is such a good guy, not just a rich, honorable and hot man. And I love him!

“Because my life -my privileged, stupid life, Katie- shouldn’t be worth more than the hundreds of people who are being used as test subjects and killed by criminals who won´t stop even if I do”

And I have to say the plot and the mission itself are brilliantly constructed and developed. It’s not just science fiction, this book has a great dose of thriller and a fantastic espionage basis. I really enjoyed the story line.

The other side of this undercover mission, the love story part, Kyle’s insecurities… I don’t want to say anything about it. You must read this book! That’s the way you should find out how perfect this story is. Well, first you have to start with “In the Wreckage” since this series can’t be conceived as standalone novels. And after that, enjoy this second and great installment.

These books are amazing!

I have to do a special mention here since I didn’t in my review of book one: The girls in the alpha team are fantastic. They are funny, brave, bad-ass and really smart. Yes, they are! And they were that smart before becoming Metahumans, it’s not a superpower, promise! 😀 (read the sentence with all the irony it’s charged with).

It’s refreshing to read some great female characters in M/M books and I really loved the interactions among the team. Male and female. The characters are perfectly delimited and deep enough to make the reader care about them. In fact, I wouldn’t mind reading about Alexei a little more. He speaks English like I do, high five Alexei!

The bets, the banter, the funny dialogues, the deep ones… Everything Alpha Team related is terrific. All of it is super entertaining. And the new additions are awesome too and I want more…

Everyone is going to want more… I have no doubt.

The way Hailey Turner describes this futuristic society is very appealing and addictive.
This is Sci-Fi suspense at its best.

A highly recommended book for all those readers who enjoys action, great dialogues, some good thriller and smoking hot characters.imageedit_44_8150275859

As a provocative series of paranormal temptation begins, a vampire king seduces the supernaturally gifted man hunting him. But when the stakes are literally life or death, their struggle for control is no game.

Benjamin Fuller is a hunter, born and bred. Blinded as a child by the vampire who slaughtered his family, he’s blessed with a second sight that allows him to catch and kill his quarry. What his gift can’t help him see coming is his fierce, almost carnal attraction to the mystery man who claims to be a fellow hunter and whose touch triggers both lust and revulsion. When he gains the upper hand, Benjamin vows to bring his enemy to his knees.

After many years spent in exile, the only one who can help restore Tzadkiel Dragoumanos to his rightful place as War King is a blind hunter with golden curls, a lithe dancer’s physique, and distinctive facial scars—scars Tzadkiel gave him two decades ago. The mere scent of Benjamin Fuller provokes an unwelcome rush of insatiable desire. Yet to win an all-out supernatural war, Tzadkiel must resist the ravenous hunger to possess his prey—for now.

This is a great enemies-to-lovers story!

This is a stunning and original Hunters vs. Vampires book. This is an M/M romance between a vampire who wants to kill a hunter, and a skilled hunter, breed to execute the vampire race. The atmosphere Tibby Armstrong has created is completely absorbing and with a Dark-ish tone involving every page, every street of Boston, that had me fascinated since the very first page.

The world building is extremely attractive and the writing is remarkable.

To build a great and solid world in this genre is not easy. I have read tons of paranormal books. Some of them are good but, sadly, the vast majority not so much because of its lack of originality. And then,  “Surrender the Dark” comes, mixing Greek mythology, with a different concept of vampires and hunters and drag me in, almost magically, restating my love for a genre that I do not love easily.

And what makes Armstrong’s Universe original and appealing is a mixture of great things: the plot is consistent. The characters are developed, deep and very likable. The dialogues sharp,  and to the point. The whole idea of “Surrender the Dark” is terrific, as well as the many little things that put the story together.

I felt very identified with the humor in this book.

It is sarcastic and sour, and the author achieves a superb mixture between a dark atmosphere, with evil creatures lurking in the night, and very amusing interactions between the characters. Part of my high rate is because I find the humor in this book magnificent.

I loved Benjamin since the first page. I loved that boy playing in his uncle’s yard. And I love the man he becomes. I really liked the way that boy grew up assuming wrong beliefs as unquestionable truths, and how he learned life is not always what it seems (or what your parents told you).

But, probably, I love Tzadkiel even more than Benjamin, and not only because I think the character is sexy as hell. No, there is more. I like the way he talks and the loyalty to his family, to his Mora. He is honorable. He is smart. He is powerful, and his power is extremely hot. He is my War King. The undeniable winner for me.

Something I really enjoyed in this unique story is the fact that they don’t go from enemies to lovers all at once.

It is more complicated and entertaining than just that. The couple goes from mortal nemesis to reluctant allies, and in the middle of that process, they become lovers. But the hate and the need for vengeance is still there, so the charm and the curiosity about what is going to happen is on the scene until the end.

While I was reading Surrender the Dark, I was thinking that even if our MC are both males (sexy and hot long-haired males) that  fell in love with each other (and you with them) the nuanced plot was more centered in the superb supernatural world the author was giving us, than in the love story itself. Benjamin and Tzadkiel are our guides in this ride, and certainly, their relationship is the final reason for the book, but you could say their romance is not the absolute center here. I didn’t care because I was completely absorbed in Armstrong’s world, but I have to confess I’m a bit dirty and I missed more steam.

This is book one in The Dark series (can be read as standalone). Taste the Dark and Claim the Dark are expected on December 2017 and May 2018.

There is no doubt I will continue reading this series.imageedit_82_7352421876

~Blurb~

A desperate father. A lonely ranger. Unexpected love that can’t be denied.

Jason Kellerman’s life revolves around his eight-year-old daughter. Teenage curiosity with his best friend led to Maggie’s birth, her mother tragically dying soon after. Insistent on raising his daughter himself, he was disowned by his wealthy family and has worked tirelessly to support Maggie—even bringing her west on a dream vacation. Only twenty-five, Jason hasn’t had time to even think about romance. So the last thing he expects is to question his sexuality after meeting an undeniably attractive park ranger. Ben Hettler’s stuck. He loves working in the wild under Montana’s big sky, but at forty-one, his love life is non-existent, his ex-boyfriend just married and adopted, and Ben’s own dream of fatherhood feels impossibly out of reach. He’s attracted to Jason, but what’s the point? Besides the age difference and skittish Jason’s lack of experience, they live thousands of miles apart. Ben wants more than a meaningless fling. Then a hunted criminal takes Maggie hostage, throwing Jason and Ben together in a desperate and dangerous search through endless miles of mountain forest. If they rescue Maggie against all odds, can they build a new family together and find a place to call home?

Road to the Sun is a May-December gay romance from Keira Andrews featuring adventure, angst, coming out, sexual discovery, and of course a happy ending.

I have read multiple books written by Keira Andrews, and so far I have loved every one of them. Though this book isn’t my favorite by this author, I did really enjoy it.

Jason is a 25 year old single father, trying to raise his 8 year old daughter as best as he can. Maggie was born, after a curious and awkward stumble with his best friend, when Jason was 17 years old. Maggie’s mother died in a terrible accident when Maggie was only a few months old. Instead of being supportive,  Jason’s parents wanted to take Maggie from him and raise them as their own…

Even going as far as taking him to court.

2b89824e22d35d6c451d71d535bc034f.gif (640×267)

Jason however, wanted to be Maggie’s father and raise her himself, so he took his daughter and left. It hasn’t been easy, doing everything on his own, trying to make enough money so he could offer his daughter a good life, but he did it. Jason has never had the time or interest to start a relationship with someone. His daughter always comes first and for Jason, this means putting all his own needs aside.

Now, father and daughter are camping in a nature park in Montana and his world is about to be rocked in two different ways. One comes in the form of a sexy park ranger…

The other in the form of criminal on the run.

Despicable-Me-say-what-gif.gif (493×264)

Ben is a 41 year old park ranger, who has recently had his dreams shattered. After spending almost 2 decades with the same man, his boyfriend has left him to marry a movie star and adopt a baby…

Destroying all Ben’s hopes and dreams in the process.

MRW I get my finals back

When working as a tour guide one day, he meets Jason and Maggie. Ben and Maggie immediately have a click, bonding over nature. With Jason though, he feels lust at first sight, even though he isn’t quite sure about Jason’s sexuality. He intends to find out though…real soon. The two of them strike up a tentative friendship and Ben plans to try and take things a bit further…soon.

tumblr_ljm2ccgh0s1qbek0fo1_500.gif (500×184)

But all the plans Ben has made in his head, of approaching Jason this way, fall apart, when a criminal on the run kidnaps Maggie while they are hiking. What follows is an emotional search, while Jason does his best not to fall apart.

When Maggie is found and safe in the hospital, Jason has his emotional breakdown, which leads to comfort and much much more. Now this book isn’t filled with steamy scenes and it takes some time for the two of them to come together, but what was there, was very HOT.

“I like it messy. I want to roll you over and fuck you, make it good for you, make you come. Then I want to jerk off on you and see my cum on your skin”.

17800740.gif (400×225)

But where will they go from here? Jason has Maggie to think of first, and Ben has a job he loves halfway across the country.

This was a very nice read and I love stories where there is an age-gap between the MC’s. The angst centers mostly around the kidnapping and Jason’s fear of not being a good father.

It was quite heavy on the insta-love. These men only know each other a week and already feel, as if they are in love and can’t live without each other.

It also has a very satisfying epilog, which will leave a huge smile on your face.imageedit_29_8155881553

When I read the blurb of this book, I got immediately excited. I mean paranormal investigators..ghosts…sounds all kinds of creepy and mysterious.

Eating GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Which is exactly what I got. Mystery, suspense, and ghosts. What I didn’t get however was a romance story. There is a couple in this book, but that’s not what this book is about. Now it doesn’t say so in the blurb, that it is a romance and I myself am a sucker for mystery and suspense…but still.

I want everyone to be aware of this fact before going in.

Now…I did enjoy this little mysterious story. I would have liked it better with a bit more romance, not gonna lie. But still, it was very enjoyable.

This book skips between the present and the past which tends to annoy me, but in this case, it didn’t. It really added to the mystery.

12 Years ago, a couple of teenagers, including Pierce and Haven, held a seance in a haunted house. The next day, one of them disappeared. Now, 12 years later they are together again (Pierce now being a paranormal investigator), reenacting that night and trying to figure out what exactly happened.

Reaction GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

I can’t say too much about the plot, without spoiler the story, so I won’t. I read and have read a lot of different genres in my life. Thrillers and mystery/suspense being one of them. I don’t mind if a book lacks in the romance department. That said, I would have liked this one better I think if there wasn’t any romance/pairing at all.

Now I felt a bit bereft since that part of the story never really developed.

567247.gif (500×269)

I think readers who enjoy mystery and suspense with a hint of paranormal will definitely like this one.

Readers who are into romance and M/M…maybe not so much.

Men wearing women’s underwear *happy sigh*

This is a quickie but quite delicious…

Dave and Shawn have been friends for years and Shawn has always been a bit in love with Dave. But Dave’s straight…or is he?

When Dave announces he’s broken up with his girlfriend and thinks he might be bi, Shawn can only dare to hope that the object of his fantasy might become a reality.

The most important thing is their friendship but when Dave finds his collection of women’s underwear, all bets are off.

Lace and satin panties, suspenders, stockings, teddies…and it turns out Dave really enjoys watching Shawn get his kink on.

“He reached into the bag and removed the tissue-wrapped teddy. His hands shaking, Shawn put it on, aware of Dave’s eyes on him the whole time. When he straightened and faced him, his heart pounding, Dave gave a slow nod. “Fucking sexy man. Get on the bed, on all fours. Face the headboard.”

But is Dave only into the kink or does he really care for Shawn??

The book is pretty short…could probably be read in a couple of hours and it’s on KU.

If you’re after a sweet, sexy, story with a nice bit of kink…I would definitely recommend this.imageedit_44_8150275859

“I think I’m ready for a new beginning.”

Firstly, can this be standalone? Possibly but I would strongly advise reading No Regrets to really understand Abel’s story. I would say to anyone that has read No Regrets and is a bit apprehensive about reading this one, don’t be.

Abel lost his husband, Landon, six months ago when this book opens and to say he’s struggling is an understatement. The Abel here is nothing like the happy go lucky, endearing, pushy character from No Regrets.
He’s struggling with every aspect of his life. His college grades are slipping, he can’t concentrate on his job….the only comfort he finds is with alcohol, just to numb the pain and loss.

Hard to read at times but his grief was extremely well portrayed.

On a visit back to Landon’s hometown Abel finds help from someone he would probably have never expected to get close to.The Author did an excellent job in the development of these two men’s relationship.Nothing is rushed or forced and while their story definitely isn’t easy, it develops at just the right pace…to me, it felt totally credible and their shared connection to Landon…

Was both beautiful and heartbreaking…

As the story progresses we gradually see Abel emerging from his grief and allowing himself to feel love again.I definitely shed tears at the end but it was just perfect. This book, along with No Regrets are the only books I’ve read by Nicky James and I found her writing just captivating.

It’s sad, uplifting, hopeful, and very special and definitely one of my top reads this year.imageedit_44_8150275859

I buried my twin sister six months after she found out she had cancer. Her funeral was three months ago. Today is our birthday and it started with delivery of letters from her.

It seems she didn’t trust me to move on after her death. She knows me too well. But how can I go on when my other half is just…gone? That’s not something I can recover from with a snap of my fingers. But I also can’t ignore her instructions even though I’d be perfectly content to cuddle up with my buddy, Johnnie Walker, and call it a year.

She has a list of things for me to do and there are rules attached.

There’s one major problem besides the fact it’s been three months since I left the house. I have to do all these things with her jerk of an ex, Hawk Simmons. He abandoned her shortly after she found out she was sick. If that wasn’t enough to make this a really bad idea, the fact that he makes an appearance in all my nighttime fantasies probably does.

I don’t think I can do this, but I owe it to my sister’s memory to try.

One of the best books I’ve read this year!

I loved it! I loved every single page of it! so I rounded up my 4.5 stars, to 5.

In his 25th birthday, Ethan Roberts (drunk and hurting) receives a letter from Emma, her recently dead twin sister, with a list of things he must do, assignments to accomplish with the help of Hawk Simmons, her ex and the hot, sexy man Ethan hates more than anyone in the world.

Ethan is mourning his sister death and, on the first page, we can read the really sad motto he wants to follow in that right moment:

“Sleep, that beautiful place where pain didn’t exist. Where memories didn’t exist. His goal in life now is to spend as much time in that space as possible”

And even if it sounds depressing as hell, it’s not. This whole story is far from it.This is not a story of death. This is not a book about cancer and loss. This is the complete opposite. This is a love story. A story of life. A perfectly well-written book, about how people can connect in life and be happy getting over the bad things, getting past the sad parts anyone, unfortunately, have to experience. A story of people who deserves happiness.

And after that super long introduction, if you are still with me 😉 let’s start with our MCs. And here, I don’t want to say too much because this is a book you have to read and, discover by yourself, who Ethan and Hawk really are.

Ethan is a graphic designer whose twin has died four months ago and he doesn’t seem to find his way out the hole he is in. And he doesn’t want to, either. So when the help comes from Hawk, the sexy motorcycle designer who broke his twin’s heart before she died, things gets complicated.

Ethan is hot, hot, hot (three times because I’m gonna give Hawk a fourth hot, a bit more, just a little bit). He is sweet, shy and he doesn´t know how to handle his life without Emma.

Hawk, on his behalf, is dealing with his own problems and loss. He is much more than Ethan thinks, much more than you reader could imagine in the first moment. He has a hard life to live too. It’s not just Ethan who is mourning someone. Hawk has issues tormenting him, unresolved things hunting him.

As I said Hawk is hot, hot, hot, hot (there is four, right?) and both characters together are incredible, sexy, funny and the attraction between them is a constant turn on.
This is a couple you want to meet and know. They are full of surprises and I really love them both.

Emma deserves a special mention here because she brought perfection to this story. She is the one who makes everything possible. She is dead, yes, and it´s very, very sad because she was young and full of life but, you are going to smile thinking about her and her fixing from the grave. This caring and beloved person, makes you believe in the wish.

This is a beautiful story you must read, nothing more and nothing else.

Dr. Mikhail “Misha” Budnikov takes one look at fellow fencer Ryan O’Connor and instantly knows his type. The undisciplined hothead is all ego with no finesse and even less control. In short, Misha’s pet peeves personified. To put the arrogant kid in check, Misha challenges him to a sparring match, which he predictably wins.
Not so predictably, Ryan asks him to be a mentor and show him how to fence. Startled by the moment of humility, Misha agrees.

What begins as fencing lessons becomes something much hotter, and before they know it, Misha is giving Ryan an entirely different kind of education. Dominance, submission, pain, pleasure—at the hands of an older, experienced man, a whole new world is opening up for Ryan.

As the trust deepens and their bond strengthens, though, Ryan retreats because that sham called love left him jaded long ago. Cynical beyond his years, he’s not letting his guard down, least of all for a thrice-divorced man twice his age.
Now Misha has to find a way to crack through those defenses…or accept defeat and walk away from the submissive who might just be the love of his life.

I am not a big BDSM reader and I don’t know anything about fencing, not did I care much for it, so this book was a big gamble on my part. Good thing I like to gamble. 😉

simpson-giphy2.gif (480×366)

Ryan (26) and Misha (45) are both fencers, and they meet at a fence-club. Ryan has been fencing for about 5 years and he is not being a very good sportsman. Misha, who is a master fencer with lot’s of experience, decides to challenge the younger man and put him in his place…

Which is exactly what he does.

tumblr_n4pd3sXjwk1s24qdco1_500.gif (500×255)

What he didn’t expect, however, was that after being defeated, Ryan would ask him to teach him how to fence properly.

How can he say no to such eagerness?

Misha isn’t just a great fencer though. He is also a college professor and Dom and a romantic, even after 3 divorces (two with women and one with a man).

Move+On+Quotes+(Inspirational+Quotes)+0001-0003+(7).jpg (550×700):

Ryan is a college student and an artist…no, e is not Misha’s student. He comes from a horrible family and he is much more jaded.

My heart broke for Ryan more than once…

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor my heart hurts + gif

Slowly Misha teaches Ryan everything he knows about fencing. But the lessons don’t end there though…Misha also introduces him to the world of BDSM.  The chemistry between these two is off the charts. It was a nice slow burn though not too slow, with plenty of sexual tension and extremely HOT sex scenes.

“You’re a submissive waiting to happen, aren’t you?”

ba53d707b981b76812076b16fa2ab450.jpg (525×639):   f1f751ed83c6e3c8a1baad5981fdebaa.jpg (500×750):

I really enjoyed seeing their relationship develop from just being sexual…into much more. I loved how Misha saw Ryan’s need to submit. BDSM isn’t really my thing, but this story was very nicely done. I think part of my enjoyment has to do with the fact, that they really talk things through. Which is why the conflict near the end was a bit surprising to me.

No worries though…all ends well. 😀

This book does have a (sex)scene with multiple partners…for those who would like to know this, before going in.imageedit_29_8155881553

Before I started this novel, I read the free prolog novella, Enemies with benefits, which I very much enjoyed.

It isn’t needed to read, however, to start with the novella, since it’s included in this one. It spans the first 24 % of the book.I really enjoyed this one, though I have to say, there were also some things that bothered me.

Will is a (freelance) assassin, working on an assignment for the CIA. His assignment: killing the man who’s responsible for the death of his (former) army team…Sergei Polzin.

The only thing on Will’s mind is vengeance…

tumblr_o0gaxo3qeb1svj22bo1_500.gif (488×198)

That is until he comes face to face with Kit…

Kit is Polzin’s bodyguard. He wants his boss dead as much as Will does, but he is biding his time, because he is after something precious…

Reactions GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Kit’s biggest job is to keep Polzin alive. His job, however, becomes much more fun, when he is confronted with Will…

tumblr_lppf4eJFyx1qelmk6o1_500.gif (500×168)

I am not going into the plot any more than this because I don’t want to ruin anything with spoilers.

I can, however, tell you that these two are flaming HOT together.

tumblr_m4yf5hGztz1qiqy8mo1_500.gif (500×430)

I did, however, have a bit of a problem with the believability. Thankfully I don’t read books for realism because I hope that a real CIA agent would not act this way.

4m83X.gif (500×282)

After I decided to, not take everything so seriously, I got to enjoy the book much more. What also bummed me out, was the lack of an epilog.

I am a big fan of epilogs, they give me closure.

The ending of this book didn’t give me any real closure. 😦

When Kylor Knightley, a multi-millionaire nightclub owner, is out talent-spotting at an open mic event in London’s Limehouse district, the last thing the stiff-lipped Brit expects is to fall head-over-heels for a devastatingly handsome singer ten years his junior.

Born in New York, twenty-two-year-old Eden McFadden now calls London home and has ambitions of making it big in the capital’s music scene. In the meantime, the feisty free spirit is secretly rocking it as a stripper at a gay club in Soho. But when fate brings him and Kylor together in Limehouse, it starts a chain of events that tears both of their worlds apart.

It’s going to take some serious attitude adjustment for the smart-mouthed stripper and the arrogant British gent to find common ground, but the attraction is too strong to ignore. Sometimes you have to trust in fate and see where it takes you.

This was a nice read, though I have, to be honest, and admit that it wasn’t at all what I was suspecting.

Kylor is a posh, kinda stuck up, businessman, looking for talent, for the club he partially owns. He is always dressed in expensive suits and even the language he uses is all prim and proper. I’m gonna have, to be honest here and say that it took me some time to get used to his character.

When going to an open mic night, he hears Eden sing and is convinced that Eden is the perfect guy for the job. Problem is, Eden is gone before he has a chance to talk to him, so he tracks Eden down…to his place of employment.

Eden works as an exotic dancer at a strip club, where he and his fellow dancers go “full monty” on the crowd. Eden is the total opposite of Kylor. He is passionate, a bit wild and lives his life to the fullest. He is also immediately drawn to the handsome red-head in the expensive suit.

Kylor convinces Eden to audition for his club and soon Eden finds himself with a new job.Even though Kylor is also very attracted to Eden, he won’t go there. Bussiness after all, should not be mixed with pleasure. Of course, Eden doesn’t share this opinion.

The banter between these two really made me laugh out.

Kylor often ran his mouth without thinking and at times, he was quite rude and disrespectful towards Eden. Thankfully Eden was snarky enough to have a great come-back.

The problem I, however, had with the story, was that for me, it took way too long for them to get their act together.

I was on pins and needles when we got to the 80 % mark and things finally started moving in the right direction. After all that build-up and all that talk about Eden having such a huge “member”, I couldn’t wait for the two of them to give in and finally get it on.

And they did…off the page…

Now if there is one thing that really annoys me, it’s fade to black sex scenes. In this case, I really needed more. The sexual tension between these two just keeps building throughout the book and I was really expecting a big bang !! I don’t mind reading books that don’t have any sex scenes in them…

…but I don’t like getting all wound up, only to be left hanging…

Other than the steam seriously lacking, I did enjoy this story and it did make me laugh.

I especially liked the first half of the book, the second dragged a bit and I just wanted them to get together already.

Jay and Adam have been sharing a flat, and a bed, since they moved down to Adelaide after high school a couple of years ago. Neither man considers himself gay or mentions the sexual nature of their friendship to anyone else.

Their arrangement doesn’t stop Jay from casually dating random women he meets through work and both men seem happy with the way things are. That is, until Adam meets April, a damsel in distress that latches herself onto Adam in a way that he doesn’t mind at all. Jay sure does, though.

As Adam gets closer to April, the friendship between the two men starts to unravel and for the first time in years, Jay is facing a life without Adam. If he wants to save their friendship, he will have to offer Adam a lot more than a spot in his bed. There’s only one problem, Jay doesn’t believe in love.

Coming in by Michelle Ogilvy is a book about two friends trying to figure out who they are.

This is the story of Jason Porter and Adam Pearson.

Best friends since childhood, actual flatmates and regular fuck buddies. But this “lovers status” is something that the world doesn’t know. Out of the semi-bubble, they have built around them, they are just friends.

But it’s not like the sex thing is Jay’s and Adam’s little dirty secret. Nope. They are not really conscious of the significance of their non-discussed relationship. Or the magnitude of it. They have been together like that for years and we are not talking just about sex. They sleep together every night, with cuddling and everything. But they don’t label their sexuality or relationship.

The thing is, Jay, dates random women constantly and it “seems” both of them are ok with this agreement, at least until the harpy among all harpies comes into their lives. Her name is April and I hated her so much that I don’t want even to talk about her.

She is Adam’s obnoxious girlfriend. A total bitch.

I know some of MM romances has one of those, but this insufferable girl is a bit over the top.I HATED HER! And sadly, I hate Adam every time she is in the picture with him because everything seems fake, and she is evil incarnated and the main source of the angst here. Nope, nope not talking about this girl or the stupidity of my (usually) smart and sweet Adam.

For those who don’t tolerate infidelity in their readings, I have a Warning: There is cheating in this book. Not on the page, and not between our main characters, but the fact is that they can’t avoid being together, and they have been doing it for years, even though they were in a relationship or not.

“Whatever had been between the two of them over the last few years, it wasn’t healthy”

It is difficult for me to review “Coming in” in a few sentences because I perceive two completely different parts in the book, and I feel the need to explain it:

The first half was ok. The conversations are simple, not deep at all. The sex is off the page and there is no explanation about how and why Jay and Adam get where they are. Too many things are taken for granted.

I was a bit out in this first 50%(the percentage is nearly literal). It bothered me not knowing them. I was enjoying it, but I needed to feel them, together and separately, and the story wasn’t deep enough either. Angsty? Yeah. Uncomfortable? Very. But not deep. The characters were not giving me what I was wanting and needing.

They didn’t talk about their sexuality, about their attraction. They just seemed to need each other, and even though I liked the concept of that dependence I needed to know why, how, when…

Come on, guys! Talk to each other! Talk to me! Argh…

And then:

Everything changes. The plot starts taking shape and the characters start to feel and to talk about these feelings.

“I’m not gay” Adam replied.
“No, you’re just a hypocritical son of a bitch”

In this second half we get to know Jay and Adam deeply and, as the author deepens in them, and in their friendship, I start loving both characters (though I must say Jay was my favorite. He is a cynical jerk but I love him).

Here, at last, they show their fears and insecurities, and both have a lot of them, because they are young and a little lost.It seems that Adam and Jay have never stopped to analyze their relationship, until hateful April comes. And when they do, we could say everything changes between our guys and their bubble blows up.

They seem lost and miserable outside this bubble and without each other, and they need to be clear, to be honest, to say what they really feel.

“It wasn’t like Adam doesn’t know the goodbye was coming. But it supposed to be him leaving, not Jay. And he hadn’t realized it would hurt this much”

So, I would say this is a great friends to lovers story, I really enjoyed it.

No doubt I will read the author again.
