They’re the best of friends or the worst of friends. Neither one is letting go.
Here lies Louchana Valentine. She was a homeless, orphaned virgin.
I never cared what my gravestone would say until I landed in deep with a powerful gangster. Lucky for me, my best friend happens to be ruthless too. I should feel guilty that he’s forced to turn on the man who’s been a father to him. Except I’ve always known that Wren’s soul wasn’t as black as he claimed.
He was good. He was beautiful. He was mine.
He just didn’t know it yet.
And with Wren keeping me safe, I’ve got time left to rewrite the end of my story. But if he has his way, virgin is already carved in stone.
I’ve never known anyone as alluring as Lou. Or as frustrating. Since the night she saved my life and stole my wallet for her troubles, I couldn’t stay away.
She became my onus. My light.
With nowhere to run, I’m forced to trust someone I never expected. At least with Lou safe in Blackwood Keep–far away from me–I’ll die with my conscience intact. Because she no longer looks at me with friendship in her eyes. Those iridescent blues shine with a different need entirely, and I’ve never been able to deny her.

The Moth and the Flame is the second book in the When Rivals Play series by B.B. Reid and tells the story of Wren and Lou. It’s told in dual POV, and I highly recommend to read The Peer and the Puppet, first.
It’s a friend to lovers kind of book. It contains the well-known angst, drama, mystery, secrets, hotness, action. Very well written with slow-burn tension, intense and captivating, a story that will melt your heart and drown you completely in it. I loved that the book told Wren’s and Lou’s story from the beginning, how they became friends, and grow more and more to love each other, more than friends.
Wren, it’s part of Exiled, one of the most dangerous gangs of New York. One night, he meets a beautiful girl, who happens to save his life, and now he is indebted to her. But only at the end of the book, we learn how deeply is Wren indebted to Lou.
Lou is a very determined and stubborn heroine, but Wren is way more than her. He keeps telling himself that Lou is his best friend, but in time, neither he doesn’t believe that thing anymore, especially now, that Lou became more and more aggressive with her feelings and advances toward him…He can’t last much longer.
We meet again Ever and Four, my beloved Four+Ever. I loved how jealous they became to one another. Both with ugly and hurtful past and childhood, they just complete one another.
I highly recommend this author and her books. She is an amazing and talented writer. Her characters, her writing, and her stories are like reality. B.B. Reid will carry you on her magical world.
