Nothing interferes with Shane Hollander’s game—definitely not the sexy rival he loves to hate.
Pro hockey star Shane Hollander isn’t just crazy talented, he’s got a spotless reputation. Hockey is his life. Now that he’s captain of the Montreal Voyageurs, he won’t let anything jeopardize that, especially the sexy Russian whose hard body keeps him awake at night.
Boston Bears captain Ilya Rozanov is everything Shane’s not. The self-proclaimed king of the ice, he’s as cocky as he is talented. No one can beat him—except Shane. They’ve made a career on their legendary rivalry, but when the skates come off, the heat between them is undeniable. When Ilya realizes he wants more than a few secret hookups, he knows he must walk away. The risk is too great.
As their attraction intensifies, they struggle to keep their relationship out of the public eye. If the truth comes out, it could ruin them both. But when their need for each other rivals their ambition on the ice, secrecy is no longer an option…
This is the second book in the Game Changers series by Rachel Reid. I haven’t read the first book but I can honestly say this can be read as a stand-alone…I’m not a fan of stories that span over many years, but here it worked for me. It starts in the present but then goes back to when the main characters met and their story is revealed slowly.
Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov are enemies on the ice but they just can’t keep the distance. The attraction is huge! In bed, they are like fire. They work. They are everything the other isn’t but it works for them.
I didn’t expect so much hotness and I was glued to the pages. I’ve read this in one sitting and it’s not a short book. I was invested in the story. I really couldn’t put it down!
They were so young when they met, but over the years they changed. One thing never did. Their desire. And what is best than the forbidden relationship. First only sex, then each wanted more, even if they were afraid they can lose it all if the word got out they are together.
This story isn’t light or super sweet, but it seems real, possible and very very sexy!… Really loved how Shane got Ilya to meet his parents.
“I have been with lots of women. That was not … fake. But … He looked at Shane, and Shane held his breath. I have only been in love with one person.”
I am only sorry we don’t get a HEA, only a HFN and to be honest I expected a different ending. Maybe their coming out, maybe an engagement. They deserved more after so many years of hiding…It’s the only reason I’m not giving this one 5 stars. But I really enjoyed the writing and the hotness!
I highly recommend this book! 💗
