It’s been decades since blackmail forced Troy Callahan to retire from playing professional hockey, and he’s built a successful career behind the bench. When he’s offered the opportunity to coach the Asheville Ravens—the most hated team in the ECHL—he’s convinced that his no-nonsense attitude is just what the team needs to put their focus back on hockey. But Troy is disheartened when he finds out the Ravens have signed Shane North, a player known for his aggression—especially when Shane’s rough good looks have Troy thinking inappropriate thoughts about a player, even if he’s set to retire at the end of the season.

Shane’s career in the majors never quite took off. Wanting to quit on his own terms, Shane agrees to a one-year contract with the Ravens and finds himself playing for a coach who thinks he’s an aging goon, and with a team that doesn’t trust him, Troy, or each other. Despite his determination not to get involved, Shane unwillingly becomes part of the team… and is just as unwillingly drawn to the gruff, out-and-proud coach. As the Ravens struggle to build a new identity, Shane and Troy succumb to the passion that might cost them everything.

Quotes from the author about the book:

“Troy and Shane’s story was a joy to write – I loved writing about two characters who were so confident in what they wanted and determined to get it no matter what. These are two stubborn, opinionated and passionate men and their interactions were so much fun to write.”

Quotes from other authors about the book:

“I hope this series continues forever. I always have time for more of Avon Gale’s quirky, impeccably written hockey players. Shane is the perfect smartass, and watching him fall for Troy is terrific fun.” – Sarina Bowen, USA Today bestselling author of Him

“Give him a chance. He’s not in bad shape, is he?”

“No,” Troy mumbled into his drink. “He’s not.”

There was a long, pregnant pause. Troy lowered the glass and stared at the whiskey stones intently. Troy had no idea where you even got such a thing. He was lucky he had ice in his freezer.

Gabe cleared his throat.

“What?” Troy shot him a glare. “He’s in good shape. Yes. I’m agreeing with you.”

“I know, that’s why I’m speechless.” Gabe grinned at him, and the lines crinkled around his eyes. “You think he’s hot, don’t you.”

“He’s a hockey player in great shape who is over the age of thirty, and he surfs for fun,” Troy reminded him. “I’m not dead. But he’s also got a bad attitude—”

“So do you.”

~About the Author~

Avon GaleAvon Gale wrote her first story at the age of seven, about a “Space Hat” hanging on a rack and waiting for that special person to come along and purchase it — even if it was a bit weirder than the other, more normal hats. Like all of Avon’s characters, the space hat did get its happily ever after — though she’s pretty sure it was with a unicorn. She likes to think her vocabulary has improved since then, but the theme of quirky people waiting for their perfect match is still one of her favorites.

Avon grew up in the southern United States, and now lives with her very patient husband in a liberal midwestern college town. When she’s not writing, she’s either doing some kind of craft project that makes a huge mess, reading, watching horror movies, listening to music or yelling at her favorite hockey team to get it together, already. Avon is always up for a road trip, adores Kentucky bourbon, thinks nothing is as stress relieving as a good rock concert and will never say no to candy.

At one point, Avon was the mayor of both Jazzercise and Lollicup on Foursquare. This tells you basically all you need to know about her as a person.

When Brian “Brin” Schubert’s condo floods, he takes his co-worker up on the offer to stay on his crappy futon for a while. The last thing he expects is for his friend’s roommate to be the one guy he despises the most. The same guy who stomped on his heart senior year of high school. And by the looks of the girl on his arm, the same man who’s still deep inside the closet.

Nicholas Dell never predicted that eleven years later, one of his greatest regrets would show up on his doorstep down on his luck. Nick has made some terrible mistakes—story of his life—and he’s been paying for them ever since. And if the guilt and shame aren’t enough, his first crush had to turn into one of the sexiest men he’s ever laid eyes on.

Nick and Brin have weeks to steer clear of each other. Weeks to avoid strangling each other. But when stubbornness leads to skyrocketing sexual tension, hate-sex doesn’t seem like such an awful way to work through their frustration. Except hate is a powerful emotion, especially when it’s turned inward. And in Nick’s case he’s been drowning in a sea of self-loathing for so long, he can’t see his way out.

As Brin reconnects with Nick, his perception of what really happened in their past begins to change. He’s finally ready to forgive him and take a second chance on the one guy who stirs him like no other. But Nick’s demons are complicated, heart-wrenching…demanding. So devastating, he might never allow himself true happiness—even with the one man who’s always owned his heart.

“Brin, let me introduce you to my roommate,” Elijah said as I followed him through the short hallway to the living room. “This is Nick and his friend, Sarah.”

Sarah’s curly locks were nearly as blond as mine and Nick’s black hair was mostly tucked beneath a worn blue baseball cap. The two of them were cozy on the couch, Sarah sitting with her legs tucked under her and Nick with his ankle crossed over his knee. They were eating Chinese food off paper plates resting in their laps. Sarah simply waved as her mouth was full from a bite of food but Nick responded, “Hey, how you doing?” after swallowing a piece of what looked like an egg roll.

The smell of fried rice hit my nostrils and when my stomach rumbled in response, I realized just how famished I was. I was dying to dive right into the second brown bag resting on the coffee table that more than likely contained my food, but I didn’t want to be rude.

When Nick leaned forward with an outstretched hand, for some reason I zeroed right in on the neatly groomed scruff on his chin. When he tilted his face to look directly into my eyes, I froze, our fingers interlocked. A startled gasp sprang from my lips, and Nick’s eyebrows slammed together in confusion right before they lifted straight to his hairline.

The same cherry-colored lips, with a center dimple drilled into his chin. Those sad, amber-colored eyes that shuttered out the world.

Holy fuck. Elijah’s roommate was Nicholas Dell.

The same Nicholas Dell from Jefferson High who practically ruined me for other guys.

The same Devil’s third baseman that begged his math tutor to suck his cock in the locker room after practice.

And given the female nestled up beside him, it was the same Nicholas Dell who was still deep in the closet.

It’s day one of Darren Corliss’s career as a detective, and not only has he been assigned a notoriously difficult partner, but the guy might also be a pill-popping dirty cop. Internal Affairs needs proof, and Darren gets to be their eyes and ears whether he wants to or not.

Detective Andreas Ruffner doesn’t play by the rules, and he doesn’t play well with others. With bodies piling up and a list of suspects who are way above his pay grade, the last thing he needs is a wet-behind-the-ears kid for a partner. Or babysitter. Not even if that partner is easy on the eyes.

As Darren gains Andreas’s hard-won trust, they both realize there’s more than just mutual suspicion simmering beneath the surface. But their investigation is heating up as quickly as their relationship, and Darren has no choice but to go along with Andreas’s unorthodox — and borderline unethical — methods. As IA puts the squeeze on Darren to give up the man he’s falling for, he has to wonder—is Andreas the only cop left in this town who isn’t dirty?

imageedit_4_4081789668simoneb*****4.5 Stars*****

Andreas Ruffner, a supposedly bad cop whose cultivated an image of a lone wolf who can’t keep a partner and whose more than dubious -and admittedly not always by the book, let alone illegal- methods attract ire and suspicion with Internal Affairs…

Darren Corliss, the good cop, the golden boy, a rookie and freshly promoted detective, whose first day on the job not only begins with reeling in a new, gruff and a partner but also a babysitter job in order to convict said partner of abuse of authority.

The story:

In order to bust a drug ring that not merely screams inside job, but also seems to go higher up the food chain than everyone suspected…both detectives discover that the first impression can be deceptive but that trust has to go both ways in order to get the job done.

A job that contains more complexity and requirement of being handled with kid gloves (or rather questionable practices) than one of them expected, but the other one would be more than willing to sacrifice everything for, even his reputation, to bring it to an end.

Gifs de armas disparando y esas cosas..

And they are not only dealing with superiors and highly respected officials who would like to be a nail in Andreas’s coffin and colleagues that play a dirty game…but also have to fight their mutual attraction that is more than just a bad idea in a number of ways.

Does that sound familiar? Yes? You think this is your typical run-of-the-mill cop story you probably read about a hundred times before?

Yeah, it is… NOT. Quite the contrary, because this is so much more.

As for me being a fan of old cop movies and ~ series, I got immediately sucked into a story about solid police procedure with lots of legwork and relying on informants, but also into the swamp of corruption, dirty cops, and drug deals. But the most unusual for me about it was the characters. They are not your picture-postcard perfect cops who do everything by the rulebook. They are men with a history. Men with a rare background you usually won’t find in a book like this.

I can’t tell you more without spoiling a big part of the story, just so much that it deals with a delicate subject that would have been taboo just years ago and with the way the authors handled it, they helped me eliminate some of my own prejudices. To be honest, I don’t know if it is all medically accurate, but at least it incented me to find out more about it.

As for the romance part, some people might say that there could have been a bit more…

But I loved the way Andreas and Darren danced around each other at first. I really felt their inner conflict between duty and attraction and especially Andreas’s loneliness and hopelessness to find love again virtually vibrated off the pages. The slow burn romance also means that there is only one “real” sex scene and even I got… umm, a bit sexually frustrated now and then because of them getting disturbed every goddamn time things started to get interesting. The one and only that was there, though, was extremely hot and…

Very surprising, so to speak. 😀

So, to everyone who loves an amazing cop mystery, a slow burn romance, unusual circumstances, age gap and alternating POV’s from the main characters…

When Cooper’s parents divorce, he finds himself landed in Week About—one week with his mum and one week with his dad.
Only, it’s not just his dad he has to live with. There’s Lila, too: The other woman, the one who stole the rock-solid foundation of his life.
And then …
There’s Jace. Lila’s son. Lila’s smug, regurgitated-fish-scale-blue eyed son.
All Cooper wants is to have his family back the way it once was, but there’s something about this boy that promises things will never be the same again.

Resisting the realities of his new life, Cooper and Jace get off to a rocky start. But rocky start or not, after hundreds of shared memories together, they forge something new. A close … friendship.
Because friendship is all they can have. Although it’s not like they are real brothers…

But how does that friendship evolve under the pressures of life?
Under pressures of the heart?

This is a frustrating, forbidden, sad and beautiful love story.

This is the story of how I became a rock“… oh, yes it is…(sighing loudly).

To me, what I’ve read is so powerful that I’m still hangover while writing this review. I’ve laughed, cried, and prayed for the book to be endless. I also prayed for the exact opposite, begging for the couple to have their HEA and stop messing with my feelings…

This is a beautiful story that describes us the awakening of an epic love. This is a magnificent book that tells us about the start of a heartfelt and heartbreaking relationship between two men who met being kids and went through life with their paths tangled, entwined and intimately connected as “brothers”, friends and lovers.

I want this to be a total spoiler-free review, so I’m gonna ramble and gabble about my thoughts and my perception of this exquisite love story. So you are safe, nothing is gonna be revealed.

Cooper and Jace meet when both of them are teenagers.

They find each other in a tough moment in Cooper’s life and started bonding and sharing a life. It’s magnificent how you can be a part of it, feel all of it, being there with the weight of the unsaid words, witness the secret and longing glances, and understand the beginning of a camaraderie bigger than anything.

This book is not exactly one of unrequited love but, at the same time, it is, since we could say that´s the main reason (along with the prohibit love) for our MCs being apart for such a long time. It’s angsty for a softie like me who cries every time our hero’s heart is ripped off his chest, or even if it’s not but he is having a really bad day, he is jealous or simply sad. Yup. That soft. So, did I cry reading Rock? Yes, I did. Did I enjoy while crying? Hell, yes, like crazy. Would I reread again this magnificent and powerful story? Of course, I would, and I would cry too.

Anyta Sunday plays beautifully with the chapter’s titles.

All of them has a rock name in it, don’t let you forget, not for a second, that you are reading about Cooper’s experiences, feelings, and states of mind. We have our narrator’s sweet POV and the rock names to remind you the significance, the meaning of the stones, that they are related to what we are going to read. I also loved the way the book is structured. Different parts named according to the relationship development and also geologically connected to the plot… beautiful.

So you could say Anyta Sunday touches me. Her writing and her characters.

The dialogues flow so easily and the feelings go so deep in me, that I felt drowned in the beautiful drama, the magistral narration and the sadness of this unforgettable love story.

I wanted to make a special mention to Lila and David (Cooper’s dad) because theirs is a love story plagued of sad and painful moments. This secondary mini plot is also heart wrecking because this is a couple who has been in love all their lives, not being together for the most part of it…and once they are happiness seems to escape them anyway… I can’t imagine what it feels like to be incapable of sharing your life with the person you love (I’m a lucky girl) but it has to be hard, very very hard.

Anyta Sunday gave me 10 years of love and heartbreak, 10 years of Cooper and Jace’s lives full of great conversations, tears and a palpable evolution (we go from a YA lovely novel to a splendid drama with more experienced men).

And all of it packed in a magistral narration, sprinkled with a few references I loved…

Such as a Flight of the Conchords T-Shirt (it’s New Zealand, after all) or Cat Stevens’s “first cut is the deepest”, song, that drove to another place and another time.

Because as I said, I’m a softie, and proud of it! 😀

First I want to thank Elsbeth for bringing my attention to this book…thanks, sweetie!!

It has been some time since I’ve read the first book in this series and I loved it…I didn’t expect I would love this one even more, but I did. I loved every single page, which is saying a lot because this book is freaking long. 😛

1cb71bc07a4e05ec792f8b53f84a8065.gif (412×225)

One of the reasons I loved this one so hard, was Trystan. I really liked him in the first book, but he was amazing in this one.Now don’t get me wrong…Dakota was pretty awesome as well.

who_da_man_doctor_who.gif (500×240)

Now before I go into the story, I do want to say that this book contains quite a few triggers. If you are sensitive to those, take note of my warning. Its deals with (sexual) abuse, and violent rape, which is described and depression.

tumblr_oaoa5jFSu61u4eyfto1_500.gif (500×210)

This book can be read as a stand alone. Though I would like to say that book 1, which is about Alex and Lincoln, was pretty great as well. Book 1 is BDSM themed, while this one is more on the rough and kinky side of things. 😉

It was very emotional to read at times and I cried my eyes out.

That being said…there were also plenty of times I laughed my ass off. 😉 To me, this book had everything I look for in a book…emotion, angst, humor, love, some mystery and suspense and plenty of steam with a side of kinky. 😉

anigif_enhanced-7443-1423697924-3.gif (426×240)

Trystan is the school’s star football player. He is rich entitled, cocky. He has a love for rough and kinky sex and he is bi-sexual. He is used to getting what he wants and what he wants right now is Dakota. The cute member of the swim team, whom he has nicknamed “Guppy”.

“Sure I called him a guppy”  “He swims. Guppies swim. It’s cute, right?”

tumblr_static_2kymjm7qaeecc88k0okcookkg.gif (500×303)

Problem is, Dakota doesn’t want anything to do with Trystan, which is slowly bruising the man’s ego…

Dakota has his reasons for not trusting any of Trystan’s actions…hell Dakota doesn’t trust anyone. Trystan is not one to give up so easily though, and he vows he will wear this Guppy down…which of course he does.

These two were awesome together. Dakota looked so sad all the time and all Trystan wanted was to put a smile on his pretty face…

“Maybe it had been that pain and sadness that had originally sparked my interest, but it was his smile that had turned it into an obsession.”

Dakota tells him that things can’t go past anything physical, that he isn’t capable of anything more, but Trystan is so sure of himself…He will fuck his Guppy into submission make him love him.

tumblr_myqy60doWc1s0lw04o1_250.gif (250×152)

The banter between the two of them, had me laughing until I cried… 😀

But Trystan doesn’t know all that has happened in Dakota’s past and when I myself found out…tears where rolling for completely different reasons…

tumblr_inline_oj64uiqGsv1u5xfbw_500.gif (422×238)

“I was gasping for air when you found me, Trystan, and you saved my life. I love you.”

I absolutely loved this one, sure it was long, but any book that can make me…laugh, cry swoon and sweat…

Is awesome as far as I am concerned!

I really enjoyed this first book in this new series.

I am a sucker for all kinds of suspense/mystery and action books and I do love me some hot FBI agents. This books totally delivered on those points, but it also gave me something extra… A hot (former) jock turned FBI geek, all in one!!

I have found myself a new favorite character…Mr. Jameson Walker.

Jaydenkiss's uploaded images - Imgur:

Now before I continue with this review…let’s talk about that name some more!! Jameson Walker…nicknamed “Whiskey” …how freaking awesome is that. I myself loved the name and I loved the man (and I love the whiskey). 😀

I do want to warn everyone who starts this series, that this first book is not very high on the romance. There’s a lot of sexual tension, lusting and even some hot trysts (after 70%), but real romance and love…no…not yet that is. 😉 I am sure that we will get more of that in books 2 and 3…At least I hope so. 😛

large.gif (500×280)

This book is also heavy on the police technicality. These men work cybercrime, so there is a lot of hacking and technical computer lingo going on. I myself love that shit…but some might not.

Aiden is back at the job after he took a 8 month leave, because he lost his partner on the force, Tom and his husband Gabe, in one freaky accident. He himself got hurt (physically and emotionally). His boss, who is also his sister in law (Gabe’s sister) is resigning him to a different department though. He is gonna work cybercrimes…

With a new partner…cybercrime expert…Jameson Walker.

9f801ab7b7b6105b7508d68db20898e1.jpg (450×675):

Jameson (Jamie) has been working cybercrimes for three years now and he is quite the hacking expert. He is a former (famous) basketball player turned FBI-agent. He loves his job, he loves the anonymity after he spends so much time in the spotlights. He feels quite at home in his cave.

Movies GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

These two have instant chemistry and Jamie has been lusting after Aiden for three years. But Aiden…he is still dealing with his husband’s death and he isn’t ready to let go.

fAe4dta.gif (339×295)

Jamie understands this and he himself also wants to be cautious, for his own reasons.

These boys get sent on an assignment, which I myself found very interesting, having to do with someone hacking a lab, that holds all sorts of deadly diseases and shit.Spending a lot of time together in close quarters eventually leads these two to let go…sexually at least.

6618974.gif (500×240)

Things are left pretty open at the end. So prepare for a mild cliffy. I can’t call it a HFN because the both of them aren’t ready for more yet…especially Aiden.

“No promises, Whiskey. We have fun, we enjoy each other, we keep it casual and quiet”

Very curious to what will happen next…bring on the next one, please!!! 😀

After reading the previous book and being introduced to homophobic Vlad, I was a bit hesitant to read this one. He was quite the asshole in book 6, and I didn’t think his behavior would change anytime soon.

Turns out I was mostly right. His behavior did NOT change soon…but I did love reading his book and yes…I even loved him !!

Dare I say, he has even become one of my favorite characters in this series….after Tristan that is. 😉

I think one of the reasons I feel this way is because he did show so much growth…Anyways, Vlad was introduced in the previous books as one of Roman’s Russian, and very homophobic, guards. Let’s just say he didn’t leave a really good impression.

This book starts out with Vlad returning back home and finding out that his girlfriend has been cheating on him. Vlad has done many terrible things in his life, but hitting a woman has never been one of them, so he figures he best take it out on the guy she cheated with…and beat him to shit.

This is how he meets Sebastian, a bi-sexual model and the man his girlfriend cheated with. Things don’t really go as planned though and soon Vlad finds himself in a situation, that goes against everything he has been taught and believes in. Because being gay is wrong and he isn’t gay…he can’t be gay….

Not wanting to be gay doesn’t stop him from being attracted to Sebastian and wanting to do all sorts of sexual things to and with the man though.

Now getting Vlad’s background it was easy to see, how he became the person that he is today. It doesn’t make it right and it doesn’t excuse his behavior, but it was understandable. As Vlad says so himself…everyone has a right to their own opinion on things.

The problem was him being so outspoken about it.

It also didn’t help that every other character in this book kept taunting him. This actually annoyed me much more than Vlad’s homophobia did. Sebastian at times, acted like a little kid, trying to get his way and he constantly tried to get Vlad to take things one step further. And Vlad…he kept taking the bait… This actually led to Vlad bottoming for the first time, which actually pissed me the hell off.

Now, these two go from hate fucking, to fuck buddies, to friends (very shortly) and then to actual lovers. I myself would have liked it if there would have been more about them being actual lovers instead of fuck buddies. We only get to read about them being together as lovers in the epilogue.

What I enjoyed most about this book was Vlad growing into himself.

He may have been a big homophobe in the beginning, but to me, he wasn’t an unlikable character. When he started to realize that his slurs were very hurtful, he stopped using them. It took a long time for him to accept the fact that he was gay, but like I said…

His character did show real growth.
