Close friends and partners at FireWorks Security, Joel Weston, and Kieran Ross know each other’s strengths and weaknesses. They have each other’s backs, make a formidable team, and carefully ignore their volatile chemistry.

When Kieran struggles with the aftermath of an assignment gone wrong, Joel is there to help. When Joel is caught in an explosion, Kieran jumps into a burning marina to rescue the man who means so much to him. But they never discuss what’s closest to their hearts, not prepared to risk their friendship for the mere possibility of something more.

Faced with bombs, assassins, and old ghosts, Joel and Kieran must find out why they’re targets, who is coming after them, and—most of all—how each would feel if he lost the other. Should they continue as best friends, or is it time to take a leap of faith?

~About the Author~

imageedit_66_3539853207

Jackie Keswick was born behind the Iron Curtain with itchy feet, a bent for rocks and a recurring dream of stepping off a bus in the middle of nowhere to go home. She’s worked in a hospital and as the only girl with 52 men on an oil rig, spent a winter in Moscow and a summer in Iceland and finally settled in the country of her dreams with her dream team: a husband, a cat, a tandem, a hammer and a laptop.

Jackie loves stories about unexpected reunions and second chances, and men who don’t follow the rules when those rules are stupid. She has a thing for green eyes, blogs about English history and food, and is a great believer in making up soundtracks for everything, including her characters and the cat.

And she still hasn’t found the place where the bus stops.

For questions and comments, not restricted to green eyes, bus stops or recipes for traditional English food, you can find Jackie Keswick in all the usual places.

Under Pressure (No Pressure, No Diamonds #1) by Kara Greenan

To Catch A Thief…

… starring Cary Grant and Grace Kelly, was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid.

I loved this film. Maybe that is the reason why everything revolving around a heist fascinates me, be it a movie or a book. Hence I could not resist when Under Pressure popped up on the site of a publisher and of course had to click the download button. And what can I say? I don’t regret it.

London is a thief and good at his job.

The best, as a matter of fact. A legend, despite his young age.

..:

Nobody knows any details about him and that is exactly the way he wants it. The less attachment, the better. So you won’t get hurt when people abandon you, right? He learned that lesson at a very young age, when his mother submitted him into foster care, but kept his siblings. That is why it hits him hard when he thought he had found someone special in Sebastian, a colleague during a planned heist in Venice. He thought he had found someone he could love, someone he could trust, only to be dumped after a few nights of passion, hot sex and something London thought, would be more. Deeper.

One year later. A new heist. A new team. A team, London calls his friends, his almost only friends. When the heist proves not to go to plan, not to be as smooth as they hoped it would be….

Sebastian comes in.

c04e1a696ec5cca5cc446b54c36c00b5.jpg (640×640):

Sebastian is a grifter. The son of an Earl, born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and because of the wealth of his family and his good looks used to get what he wants. He is able to charm his way into the coldest of hearts and everybody is happy to please him. My initial thoughts were “spoiled brat” and that is true to some degree, but there is more to him than meets the eye. The only problem? When you are used to telling lies left, right and center, nobody will believe you when you tell the truth. Especially not London, who is set hard on revenge, when Sebastian joins the team. Getting it without endangering the heist proves to be difficult.

And resisting Sebastian’s charm and the chemistry between them which is still there, even more so…

Obviously, the heist plays an important role in this book…

… but the main focus lies on the relationship between London and Sebastian and their dance around each other.

The story, told in British English, is very interesting, albeit a bit slow, and with the setting in three of the most beautiful metropolises in the world, London, Venice and Paris, it is absolutely refreshing. Add great characters to the mix and consider me hooked.

You might ask yourself now, why only four stars and not five, then?

For one, Under Pressure contains two of my pet peeves: present tense narration and flashbacks. It is virtually two stories in one, the present day when London and Sebastian meet again and one year ago when they met in the first place. Where I adapted to the present tense pretty soon this time – which surprised me the most, because that is something I normally don’t like at all -, the flashbacks yanked me out of the story sometimes, even if I understand that they are necessary to comprehend everything, especially Sebastian’s motives for dumping London a year ago. On the positive side, because of the flashbacks, it did not really feel like the insta-lust/~love that it actually was. We get to know the story bit by bit and that was something I have not experienced before.

Probably it is just me, but sometimes I found it hard to keep track of in which head I was in because for me the perspective changed at the whiplash-inducing speed at times. I had to read some sentences twice to know whose thoughts I was reading about.

And then there was the first sex scene, or rather the nonexistent first sex scene… Well, to say I like sex scenes would be an understatement, but I even survived a whole series without real sex scenes. But then there was no sex! The first sex in this book was off-page and clueless me did not even get it at first. A few pages later (after another flashback) London claimed that he and Sebastian had sex and me: “Huh? When?”. I actually had to turn back and yes, there it was. The clue. Don’t get me wrong, the following sex scenes were absolutely hot and they so made up for the lack of the first one (just to give you a hint, not to say an appetizer: rimming over a balcony rail. Do I have to say more???), but it was a bit disappointing at that moment, although I know where the author is coming from.

All in all, though, this was a very enjoyable read…

…which I can only recommend and of course. I cannot wait to read more about London and Sebastian and the team planning a new heist.

Misfits (Urban Soul #1) by Garrett Leigh

****4 Stars****4-fjf

This was my first book by Garrett Leigh, and she most certainly did not disappoint.

I know she is a writer that has the ability to dig into a character and draw out deep emotions that make them come alive on the page.  I, however, am a complete and total baby with a mushy heart that easily breaks…so I’ve tended to avoid more angsty stories.

I haven’t read a ménage book in years,…

…so I was coming into this one with an open mind not having other books in this genre on my mind.  The problem I have run into with this type of book is I am a true romantic at heart, that being said I am also possessive, competitive and do not share well – especially the love of my life.  Let’s be honest, ménage books are on a slippery slope, it can often be difficult to bring out a real romance and relationship.  So; I was very happily surprised when that was exactly what this book was going for, and I’ll be damned….she was able to do it!!

Tom and Cass have been together for nine years, they live together, own businesses together and are totally committed to each other.  They met when they were very young, and fell fast in love, but were too young to settle down….so they didn’t.  This led them to have an open relationship, they are very honest with each other and share everything.

school work confused real housewives of orange county rhoc

I personally don’t get it, but hey it totally works for them.

They hook up with blokes from time to time and on occasion, even together, but it’s not often they find someone they both like, so that’s rare.

Their businesses were thriving keeping them very busy and often away from each other.

One night while Tom is at dinner Tom researching his next project he meets Jake, they seem to have a connection right from the start.  Flirting leads to spending the night together, but in the morning Jake wakes up to not Tom in the room with him but Cass.  He has no idea about their open arrangement and can’t get out of there fast enough.  He can’t help but think Tom has cheated with him and is none too happy with the situation.

“It’s not cheating, Jake.  We choose to live this way.  It might not make sense to you, but it works for us.”

Jake doesn’t really understand the situation between them, but Tom isn’t ready to give Jake up, and Jake is equally interested in Tom.  Tom is torn between his quickly growing feelings for Jake and how it can fit into his relationship with Cass, he can’t live two separate lives.  Cass seems to be trying to push Jake and Tom together, and Jake is confused by his feeling for both men.

Circumstances arise for Jake, and while Tom is a fixer at heart, wanting to help and save everyone he loves, Cass is the person that ends up being there for Jake. Jake and Cass start to grow a beautiful friendship, but Jake doesn’t feel right getting in between Tom and Cass, he sees they have a very loving relationship.  But he notices that something is going on under the surface. Cass seems to be holding himself back, blocking himself from Tom, and Jake can see and fell the underlying tension.

“I’m not punishing you, Cass.  I just don’t want to be alone, and neither do you, so why are we both so lonely?”

The three become a family of sorts and you can watch the transitions from friend to lover, Cass and Jake build a slow bond that grows of its own accord, nothing was forced.  Tom and Jake, from the start they had feelings fast and strong but were able to grow into something more.  They all needed to work on different aspects of their lives,…

…and truly that was what the majority of this story centered around.

They did all come together, and believe me when I say, it was hot..hot…SO HOT!!!

wow fan oh christina aguilera ooh

This really ended up being a journey of acceptance and understanding not everyone has the same definition of love and family.

This relationship with the three of them was what they needed to be happy and complete.

“Tom knew Cass was the love of his life and Jake…Jake had taught them to love each other better.  Jake had taught them how to live.”

They found a way to make it work, different was normal for them.

A Copy of Misfits was provided to DirtyBooksObsession in exchange for an honest review.

What I Need (Alabama Summer #4) by J. Daniels

****3.5 Stars****

3-5-stars.png (629×121):

I really love the “Alabama Summer” series and I love all the “Bama” boys. C.J. has been a favorite of mine ever since he was introduced in the other books, so I have been anxiously waiting for his story.

As expected…he was awesome…what a man…sigh.

CJ, all around sweet guy, cop and best friend of the “Bama” guys and girls.

a3a99f8c2e5245654b2022db4cec2e4a.jpg (480×597):

Him and Riley share a hot passionate weekend together at Reed and Beth’s wedding. Things don’t turn out as planned, though. Even though CJ is all in….it seems that Riley is not.

Riley is Reed’s 22-year-old sister. She is still in school studying to be a nurse.

c8a8ed4c65307ccb532596a51991e85b.jpg (615×851):

She is living with her douchebag boyfriend, whom she broke up right before the infamous weekend. She is really attracted to CJ and she really enjoyed the time she and CJ spend together. However, when she gets back home…turns out that she and her ex are not as broken up as she thought. She figures that after all the time they have been together and how much she loves him, she needs to give their relationship another chance. So she asks CJ to keep his mouth shut about what happened but she also still wants to be his friend…

...so this is what they will be from now on…just friends.

anigif_enhanced-30727-1481910161-2.gif (389×335)

However awesome CJ was…I just didn’t feel the same about Riley.

She got on my nerves more than once. She pissed me off right off the bat, by going back to her douchebag boyfriend who treats her like shit. Also, her even asking to be friends with CJ after what happened and telling him not to let their secret slip…..

e863add2816b1738aa7f00ba122bc09e.gif (400×225)

Anyways….turns out her douche boyfriend is even more of a douche than everyone thought (well everyone except for Riley) and an accident happens, which leaves CJ  hurt and in need of care. After setting said douchebag aside (like she should have done in the first place), Riley agrees with CJ,  when he offers her a new place to stay if she will help him, while he is healing.

They start with their new friendship, which soon leads to more. How could it not…

….with all that sexual tension floating around the two of them.

98c19ce36f274e03ca655ee79f2a4e95.gif (400×224)

It isn’t long before these two are burning up the sheets. They are both committed to one another this time and their feelings keep growing and growing. Problem is…Riley is not ready to come clean with her brother yet…

I really wanted to jump into my Ipad shake her ass !!

fb9a7995c68c1440c7c970aa8c62cb50.gif (493×299)

To be fair though….CJ is keeping a little secret of his own.

I will be totally honest and say that this heroine is definitely not my favorite in this series. The hero, however, is awesome and for me CJ totally rocked. I could understand Riley having some insecurities because of her age and lack of experience, but come on…grow a spine already.

The steam was great though…these two really rocked the bed…and other surfaces.

CJ also had quite a mouth on him 😉

giphy.gif (470×257)

It’s not my favorite in this series…that spot still belongs to Reed and Beth…

…but I still enjoyed this story very much. I can’t wait to read about Jake’s story, which is next. Now he sounds like a very interesting character.

Misfits (Urban Soul #1) by Garrett Leigh

*****5 Fly him to the moon Stars!*****

I was very curious to see how this would play out as it is very hard for me to grasp the concept of sharing someone.

I’m selfish and greedy of all things love related. Besides, I would be terrified of being put aside.

Let me face it,

Free Online Image Editor:

…at some point, he decides that the other person became more important than me and he doesn’t need a third anymore. Hmm?? I know… My feelings and insecurities are ugly but this is me, bare soul. Sharing? No.Way. Jose.

That being said, can you imagine how surprised I was for loving Misfits?

Free Online Image Editor:

As a person who would never share my man, I was stunned with my own reactions to their love relationship. I connected with them so bloody much. I wanted this work so hard!  It says a lot because as the story progressed I was going against my own truth and all the things I believe but you know what?

I couldn’t care less because it felt so damn right.

Tom and Cass were so open with their feelings.

Free Online Image Editor:  Free Online Image Editor:

They embraced an open relationship fearlessly and  I loved the way Jack was brought into it, it wasn’t forced and the pace was just right and believable.

Free Online Image Editor:

Misfits aren’t something superficially created. Besides the Romance, the author put a lot of effort in details that made this story authentic and trustworthy.

  • The research on TS (Tourette’s syndrome)
  •  Little details related to food- I am no chef but I’m kind of addicted to buying recipe books. They knew how to cook alright.
  • The cyber job Jack was doing to promote Urban Soul, Pippa’s and Misfits. Loved it.
  • And finally, the whole London experience: the slang, the tube, the tourists, the vibe and so on.  I loved seeing Camden Town through the author’s eyes. It probably won’t make sense to other readers but Camden Town exerts a strange, bizarre fascination on me. It’s a unique place and it was described exactly the way I see it, alive.

I absolutely loved Misfits. I was hooked and connected with it immediately.

Their story made me feel something warm, fluttering and earthly from the very beginning.

Argh, I can’t explain it. Wankers.Freaking good!
