Ribbons and Frills by Claire Davis & Al Stewart

*****5 Stars*****

I’ve just recently discovered these two Authors and from what I’ve read they can do no wrong.I absolutely love their style of writing, they completely draw you in with their stories and characters even when the books are on the short side.

Gary works in a struggling costume factory and spends his time making his own designs at home.Ashley is the owner’s son and for one brief summer, the two men had a passionate fling only for Gary to be left devastated when Ashley left for college at the end of the summer.

A year later Ashley turns up at the factory, having been put in charge by his father. He has some grand ideas to save the factory from going under and wants to enter it in a competition in London. This was British humor at its best, especially involving Clive who is quite horrified at the whole idea.

“Blokes? They’re dresses and silly skirts for blokes?”

Gary tries so hard not to feel the pull to Ashley again….too no avail and they’re soon getting down and dirty. The sex was just delicious and filthy but the two men were also so damn cute together.

This was the perfect read for me.Sexy, sweet, so funny at times and with some great secondary characters.

Highly Recommended!

~Review~ Until Ashlyn by Aurora Rose Reynolds

Until Ashlyn (Until Her #3)by Aurora Rose Reynolds

****4 Stars****

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor 4 stars

I have been a huge ARR fan ever since I’ve read “Until November”. I have enjoyed every single book by her that I’ve read (which are many) and that includes this one 😉

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor yummy + gifFor some reason, I just can’t help but love Aurora Rose Reynolds’ writing formula. Just like the others, this one included a handsome Alpha man, a sweet heroine, insta-love (BOOM), some danger and awesome sexy times. So of course, I gobbled that shit up !!

This time, we get Ashlyn’s story, who’s Lily and Cash’daughter (Until Lily). I do have to say, that even though I really liked Ashlyn’s story, I liked her mother and father’s book better.

Ashlyn has been working as a dentist assistant for some time. As we were made aware of in the previous book, she has some sort of love-hate relationship with her boss Dillon…the gorgeous dick !! She hates him (but not really) and she thinks, that he hates her. He is also engaged to an evil ice queen bitch.

When the two of them go to a dentist convention in Vegas, they wake up naked in the same bed and of course…..they are married.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor marriage the princes bride gif

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor you are mine + gifAshlyn has a freak-out and figures the best course of action, is to get an annulment right away. She should have known better, because once an ARR Alpha man finds his “BOOM”, he’s not likely to let her go….ever.

Now they will just have to go home, figure out their relationship and find a way to tell Ashlyn’s parents without her dad freaking out.

Gerelateerde afbeeldingThis was a classic Aurora Rose Reynolds and I really enjoyed reading it. I loved the steamy scenes and I loved catching up with all the old characters. I can’t wait for Sage’s book !!

Also, for those who want to know, and you warn you because this is a small SPOILER.

Dillon was never engaged, there wasn’t anything going on between him and the evil ice bitch!I know some of you might have been worried about this 😉

Jumping Jude (Made Marian #3) by Lucy Lennox

This is the third book in this series and I enjoyed it more than book 2, though not as much as book 1, which is still my favorite.

Jude is a famous country singer and he has been deep in the closet for his whole life. His last relationship was 6 years ago and he has been celibate ever since because he’s too afraid someone will out him….being famous and all. The only one who knows that he’s gay is his brother Blue and his ex-boyfriend. Jude is also very lonely.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor gay + in the closet + gif

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor it's so dark in here + gif

When Derek enters Jude’s life as his new bodyguard, things get even harder.

What Jude doesn’t know is that Derek is also gay and he’s hiding even deeper in the closet than Jude.

A sudden threat from Jude’s ex-boyfriend makes things very clear between the two of them and they start jumping each other’s bones….in secret of course. These two were very hot together.

After a while, though, Jude doesn’t want to hide anymore. He knows his family will stand by him and he just wants to be himself. Problem is…Derek is not ready to leave the safety of his closet.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor fight for the one you love

Derek pissed me off a bit. He was ready to let the love of his life go because he didn’t want to upset his family. I would have understood his reasoning better if he would have been close with his family…but he wasn’t. The only person who actually gave a shit about Derek was Jude. So yeah…

I enjoyed this story, but for me, book 1 was still better. It dragged a bit in the second half and it wasn’t as funny as book 1. I’m very curious to see who’s book will be next.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and I was looking forward to reading this second one very much. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy it as much as book 1.

Maybe it was because I didn’t feel a connection with the characters. I liked Jamie but I didn’t really care a lot for Teddy. He wasn’t a bad guy, but he didn’t leave a big impression on me either. Maybe it was because I missed all the other crazy characters from the previous book. They were funny and they made me laugh. That’s something that I missed in this story, it didn’t make me laugh…

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor frowny face + gif

Now don’t get me wrong, I didn’t think it was bad and I still enjoyed reading it. It just didn’t meet my expectations.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor that doesn't make sense + gifI also got annoyed with the writing a bit. I found it very irritating that they kept saying each other name while talking to one another. Whenever I’m in a conversation with someone and we are the only two people there,….why would I keep repeating that person’s name ??

So, this book is about Teddy, Wild Life photographer and Jamie, Animal Whisperer. Teddy needs a special kind of photograph to win an award he is after and a picture of Jamie interacting with wildlife, would be perfect.

Jamie has been blowing him off for some time now and being sick of waiting, Teddy jumps on a plane to Alaska to confront the man in person.

TGerelateerde afbeeldinghese guys don’t start off on the right foot, but they do jump each other’s bones pretty fast. After that, there is a lot of internal denial of feelings, because both men have relationship anxiety. It takes them some time to come to terms with the fact that they are in love, but all ends well.

Just like in the first book, the steam was very nicely done.

Like I said, I missed the humor, and I didn’t really connect with the MC’s, but that won’t stop me from reading Jude’s story. I’m very curious about his story….

I enjoyed this story way more than I expected. It was funny, sweet, uncomplicated, steamy and at times a bit cheesy. It has some angst, but not much and most of that angst is caused by other characters. It wasn’t a very deep storyline and not a whole lot happens, yet I didn’t get bored. It just made me feel really good.

Blue and Tristan meet when Bleu is sitting at a bar at the Vinyard, where his sister will be marrying in a week. When Blue’s ex walks in with his new boy toy, Bue isn’t really happy, especially and it shows. Feeling a bit drunk and insecure, he ends up spilling the whole story to Tristan who is sitting next to him. Tristan figures they Afbeeldingsresultaat voor it started with a kiss + gifshould give Blue’s ex a nice show to watch.

And so it begins…..with a kiss…

Blue feels overwhelmed. Tristan is good-looking, sweet, funny, an amazing kisser and very straight…

Turns out Tristan is not as straight as Blue thought he was because they end the night together in bed..getting it on.Afbeeldingsresultaat voor let's get it on + gif

The next morning, however, thing get a bit more complicated when they find out Blue’s sister Simone is marrying Tristan’s homophobic brother John. Tristan loves shocking his stuck up family, though, so they decide to continue their relationship for the coming (wedding) week

The week that follows is filled with crazy family members, secrets that come out, douchebag exes, awesome steam and a lovely dog that’s loyal to the bone..

I really enjoyed this story and I can’t wait to jump into the next one. I hope it will be just as entertaining…

Walking Wounded: A Novel by Lauren Gilley

*****4.75 Stars*****

The last time I read a Lauren Gilley book I ended up writing only 2 lines about it. Not because I didn’t like it, actually it was the opposite. I liked it too much. One of the best books I’ve read in 2016. It went to my 6 Stars shelf. I just felt that whatever I would write wouldn’t make justice to the amazing story Fearless was.

Here I am again. Tongue tied, overwhelmed and a bit tearful. But I need to make an effort this time because this book deserves it.

This is a best friend to lovers about…

Luke, a writer …and, Hal, senator Maddox’s security man.fanning myself

But that is not all. There is another story. A story inside this story that is being told by a secondary character as the story progresses.

“A book about the bravery of ordinary people, and the wounds they carry.”

As soon as I realized that I went like Pffttt!!! Should I skim the story in this story and get to the point? I know… shame on me but give me some slack. I am in an end of the year accelerated mode and trying to rush even my reading. How sad is that???
Off course, I couldn’t do that. Because Lauren Gilley. Because I knew from Fearless how brilliant she is as a storyteller and I had to slow the fuck down and read every single word.
I really don’t know what to say about this to make it justice. So many feels. I just
want to register that both stories found a way to sneak in my heart, tie a string there and play with my emotions.

But it was such a good feeling. There is so much depth and warmth in Lauren Gilley’s writing.

For the lovers of steamy reads, the first kiss happens at 62%. Talk about the slow burn. But you should take a chance. Remember Wolfsong?

Walking Wounded: A Novel is a soulful and heartfelt story. It made me wonder about decisions, timing, fear of taking risks, if’s, choices and consequences. I am not sure why but it also made me wonder countless times if I have taken all the opportunities life threw my way. Yes, no, maybe? I have a feeling that I didn’t. As you can see I don’t know a lot of things. But I know one or two things for sure:
.) time goes by and
.)sometimes we take life for granted.

Absolutely loved this story!

Memorizing You by Dan Skinner

*****5 Stars*****

This is definitely going to be depressing and perhaps your better off not reading this, but still, I need to get this out of my chest.
I feel heartbroken.
After witnessing the blossoming of such a beautiful relationship between David and Ryan, it was very difficult watching David settle for a “nice” relationship with another guy. Actually, it tore me apart. I felt like the “easy going, no drama, thoughtful in bed, affectionate and an invaluable influence in classical music” for many years were a poor replacement for what he had with Ryan. And that made me feel so sad.

And then there were the empty years, without anyone to love David the way he deserved or someone to be loved by David.
As the story progressed with his memories the bigger the knot was in my throat.
We are all different. We happen to see and read the same book in very different ways. I know this story was so much more than that but all I can think is how sad the last few years spanned in the story were. How empty and lonely David’s life was even when surrounded by his friends and family. It was a black and white life without color and sparkle, just years passing by.

The fact that David had no chance to let that beautiful love run its course even if it were to fail in the end, made me feel suffocated and anguished. There was no chance to get closure. This was the most painful unfinished business ever. I just need to find a way to let this go now because the bloody knot still sitting on my throat.

An extremely emotional story, adorable characters and brilliant writing.

Leo Loves Aries by Anyta Sunday(Signs of Love #1)

This was a very cute “friends to lovers” story, that was low on angst and high on the “feel good” moments.

Theo and Leone are twins under the sign of the lion living together. Now normally, I would say that a horoscope sign isn’t very important info to have about a character, but in this case…it really is 😛

This twin Leo’s are still trying to get over the hurt, of their exes running off together.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor say what + gif

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor how many assholes are on this ship + gif

Yep, you heard me right. Theo’s girlfriend Sam and Leone’s boyfriend Derek ran off together !! And that’s not all folks. No…they also have the fucking nerve to invite the twins to their upcoming wedding. What a bunch of assholes !! Maybe they weren’t malicious about it, and I understand they didn’t fall in love on purpose, but still…have some fucking respect !!

Theo and Leone don’t want them to know how hurt they still are, so they make a pact. They will go to this wedding and they will find each other dates !!

Which brings us to Mr. Jamie Cooper, Aries and Theo’s former Econ tutor.

The three of them form an instant connection and Jamie even becomes their new roommate.

Theo and Jamie were so funny together. I loved their banter and so did Theo. He figures Jamie is an outstanding guy and therefore, the perfect man for his sister. Damn but Theo was clueless……

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor you are so clueless + gif

I loved him, though…he was so sweet and cute and he was trying to be a good friend and brother. So it takes some time for him to get with the program, but no worries, eventually he gets there !!     Afbeeldingsresultaat voor aries + leo

There were so many things in this book that I loved. I loved Theo’s “Quote of the day and I swooned when I learned the meaning of Jamie’s  JLM t-shirt. Theo’s mom and her horoscopes were also very entertaining.

I also want to give some extra credit to Leone. She was such a strong and wonderful heroine…very refreshing !!!

The Black Sheep and The Rotten Apple

This was so good.Totally my thing.Historical M/M, raw, passionate and two of the best characters these Authors have created.

“Can you feel that?I’d build you a castle in the sky if you could only want me the same way I want you.”

Julian Reece is the son of a wealthy Cloth Merchant. He has no interest in the family business, however. He prefers to spend his time drinking in Taverns and dreams of visiting Italy and becoming a writer. But his life is going to take a dramatic turn when his father decides it’s time he got married and sends him off to London to meet his future bride.

Sir Evan Penhart is a recluse.Living in his families crumbling estate. He’s finding it more and more difficult to make ends meet.He has a fierce loyalty to his home and servants and is willing to break the law for the upkeep of his estate that has been in his family for generations.

One fateful day Evan and Julian’s worlds collide and both their lives will never be the same again…..

Julian sees a way out of his impending marriage and fulfilling his dream….
Evan sees a way of saving his estate….

I’m not going into the story anymore because, believe me, you don’t want anything to spoil this plot but what I will say is that I really had no idea which way things would play out on more than one occasion.

The Relationship

Before meeting Evan, Julian had no interest in men and was unaware of the way some men
looked at him. However, Evan has always been interested in men but in an era where being Gay was punishable by hanging, he hasn’t been with a man for years.

I found their relationship beautiful.Yes, it’s brutal at times but so damn passionate and I think both men changed, for the better, for meeting each other.

Some fascinating secondary characters who, while not always likable, played an integral part in the story. There’s one in particular whose story I would love to read.

I’ve been dying to read this one ever since I read the blurb and I can honestly say it was better than I imagined.

Highly recommended!

An ARC was provided to me by the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Vespertine by Leta Blake & Indra Vaughn

I’m full of all these big fucking feelings, and, shit, I don’t know what to do with them. ~Nicky~

MY. STATE. OF. MIND. EXACTLY. NOW. What a beautifully written, bittersweet story…

Magic is just the right word. This was one of those books where you wish you would be able to forget what you just read and read it all over again, just to make this experience once more. Just to feel the magic again. Boy, did this book make me feel…

There were moments when I could not stop the tears running down my face, just to find myself smiling at a moment’s notice.

Especially Nicky made my heart ache. Poor, broken Nicky…

Kit Harington aka John Snow... I just created a new board just to have somewhere to pin this.:

Driven away from home at an early age when Jasper, his best friend, and love of his life, chose to dedicate his life to God and left Nicky behind. Nicky, who always felt music running through his veins left his hometown to become a famous rock star. But of course, this life is not just about fame, glamor and being rich. True to form, it is more the life of ‘Sex, Drugs and Rock ‘n’ Roll’ and after many years, when Nicky hits rock bottom, he is forced into drug withdrawal and resolves on going back home for recovery.

When he meets Jasper – or should I say Father Jazz? – again, all kinds of feelings bubble up to the surface, and anger, longing and -never-completely-forgotten love are only a few of them.

via makeagifvia makeagif

Faithful in prayer. #Rosary #gentleman: Jazz himself lives a Content (albeit somewhat lonely) life as a catholic priest. So he thinks… Being a gay catholic priest comes across some rather unwanted attention and resistance, but overall he feels accepted and safe in his faith in God and loves his responsibility for the LGBTQ youth center of the church.

Said faith becomes a bit rattled when Nicky literally appears on his doorstep. Jazz is shocked to see him being in such a bad condition and feels compelled to help Nicky recover. This task is easier said than done and Jazz has to fight temptation not to give in to his still existing deep buried feelings for Nicky more than once.

At the end, he has to make a decision, before it is too late and he will lose Nicky for good.

Well, I won’t tell you how this decision turns out, you have to read it for yourself. But believe me, you won’t want to miss out on this book! I’m officially joining the club of those via makeagifwho said in their reviews that they were reluctant at first to read this book because of the religious theme. Yep, me too! Religion itself is a sensitive topic and writing about it can be a hit or miss. In this case, it was definitely a hit and it did not bother me. At. All.

Like I said earlier, the story is beautifully written and it goes straight to my absolute favorites shelf. I marked so many passages as if my life would depend on it!!! And overall – underlined with memories of both guys – it felt so real. Nicky’s struggle to remain clean was so heart-wrenching that it made my chest hurt and Jazz’s effort to give the kids at the youth Center a chance for a better life was treated so comprehensible that both authors definitely earned my respect.

One scene in particular had me in tears and from now on, I could never hear U2’s With Or Without You again, without being reminded of this book and that is for sure.

Yearning became a thing with a rhythm and a heartbeat, and the song grew into the past made manifest. The sound of shifting bodies stilled and Nicky’s voice trembled as he sang on. His fingers never failed, though, and the broken heart he’d never recovered from bled through his voice and hands.
Through the storm, we reach the shore
You give it all but I want more
And I’m waiting for you

With or without you
With or without you
I can’t live with or without you
~ U2 With Or Without You ~
